This is the history of Donald Keene's family down through the ages. It is a varied and fascinating history. This Keene lineage can trace its ancestry through at least two lines that came to this continent on the Mayflower. Some were very involved in the Revolution, and the Civil War, as well as served honorably in World War II, and Don served during the VietNam conflict. I have spent several years researching this line, and it is the stories and origins that make it so interesting. As in all family histories, it is not just the names and dates that make up who we are, but where we have been and where we came from.

"The hard-won achievement of a lifetime." -- Wall Street Journal "When I was twelve I wrote my first poem, and by fourteen I decided that's what I'd do my whole life. I don't regret it." -- from the afterword by Donald Hall Donald Hall is an American master, one of the nation's most beloved and accomplished poets. Now in his eighties, having taken stock of the body of his work--rigorous, gorgeous verse that is the result of seventy years of "ambition and pleasure"--he strips it down. The Selected Poems of Donald Hall reflects the poet's handpicked, concise selection, showcasing work rich with humor and Eros and "a kind of simplicity that succeeds in engaging the reader in the first few lines" (Billy Collins). From the enduring "My Son My Executioner" to "Names of Horses" to "Without," Donald Hall's best poems deliver "a banquet in the mouth" (Charles Simic) and an "aching elegance" (Baltimore Sun). For the first-time reader or an old friend, these are, above all others, the poems to read, reread, and remember.

Donald Rodney (1961-1998) was one of the most gifted, perceptive, and innovative contemporary British artists of his time. A protagonist from the first generation of Black British-born art students in the early 1980s, Rodney and his peers brought a new dynamic to British art – a hitherto unseen interplay between aesthetics, politics, humour and Black consciousness. Donald Rodney: Art, Race and the Body Politic is the first book-length study of a protean practice which spanned the early 1980s to the late 1990s and included a prodigious output of work across painting, photography, collage, assemblage, sculpture, installation, and new technologies.Across eight meticulously researched chapters, the book examines the social and cultural events which inspired Rodney's artwork and the responses it elicited. From his formative years in the West Midlands as a leading exponent of ‘Black Art’, to a subsequent decade of unbridled visual innovation and social critique, the book ventures new detailed analyses of key works, exhibitions, artistic influences and collaborations. Deploying recurring metaphors of the ‘diseased’, traumatised and ‘raced’ body, Rodney addressed racial and social inequality, legacies of slavery, police brutality, sport, and Black male identity in novel and powerful ways. Attending to the artist’s material dexterity and visual acuity, the book considers how and why Rodney’s innovative practice uniquely challenged delineations between the political and non-political, personal and public, representation and visibility. Over a generation has passed since Rodney’s premature death from the effects of the hereditary blood disorder sickle cell anaemia at aged thirty-six. Despite this, Rodney's work continues to speak to our contemporary moment in a multiplicity of ways. As such, the book provides a much-needed critical perspective and insight to the work and legacy of a nonpareil British artist.

Donald Trump Paperback Coloring Book
Donald Trump has been a fountain of outrageous quotes. Not only has there been a plethora of quotable verbiage from him over the years, but it should come as no surprise that since announcing his candidacy for president, he's upped the ante. This adult colouring book is a collection of just that. He stammers like a child if he isn't in the spotlight and, because of his narcissistic need for self-referencing, he can hardly stick to a teleprompter script. He prides himself on being 'honest' and speaking his mind, but what comes out is abrasive, crass, and just plain ignorant. Perhaps he'd be better off sticking to being a business entertainer than a president. Choose for yourself.

Donald Ross and the Highland Clearances

The Highland Clearances was a dark episode in Scottish history when many thousands of people were forced off lands that they and their kin had lived on for generations. Some boarded ships destined for the colonies of America and Australia, others ended up on small barren plots by the coast or in city slums. A few men were outspoken against the atrocities, and one of them was Donald Ross. Donald Ross was a Highlander, born in Sutherland in 1813. His father was the miller on the Skibo Castle Estate and Donald took over the mill when his father died. He and his family were subsequently evicted, fighting against their eviction in the Supreme Court but losing the case. Donald moved to Glasgow and within two years, as Agent for the Poor, helped over 1,500 people receive poor-relief payments, which were being withheld by local parish boards. In the 1850s Donald became the most outspoken critic of the Highland Clearances and wrote many detailed newspaper articles and pamphlets about mass evictions on Barra, Knoydart and Skye. His most famous publication was The Massacre of the Rosses, in which he graphically described the women of Strathcarron being brutally beaten by policemen for refusing to accept eviction notices. Donald supplied over 8,000 books and pamphlets for emigrants on the ill-fated Hercules. He also raised a lot of money to help poor people in the Hebrides, particularly during the infamous Potato Famine. However, Donald’s efforts were cut short by a scandal that saw him and his family emigrate to Nova Scotia. Donald’s inspirational story makes him an unsung hero of the poor.

Donald Trump and the Transformation of US Foreign Policy

Donald Trump's ascendancy has seemingly transformed the US's relationships with both its allies and adversaries. How much, however, has been bluster and how far have realities changed? Has Trump ushered in, as he has so often claimed, a new era? This book looks back at Trump's first term of office and brings a new perspective to the debate. It considers Trump's impact on US foreign policy through the analytical lens of policy feedback and, on this basis, assesses the opportunities that were open to him and the constraints that reined in his administration, particularly in its dealings with Russia, Europe, the Middle East and East Asia. The book argues that Trump not only took strategic advantage of the opportunities open to him but changed policy in ways that bound his successor and set the stage for his second administration. Trump has, in other words, presided over changes in the trajectory of US foreign policy that, in certain arenas at least, has been genuinely transformative.

On the hugely successful hit reality TV show "The Apprentice, " Donald Trump tells his contenders that location and pricing are supremely significant. But in his own life, there have been other maxims: Do whatever it takes to win. Don't spare the chutzpah. Always use the superlative. Make everything into an advertisement for yourself. Whatever happens, always claim victory. Following these personal commandments, he has turned bragging, self-inflation, and showing off into competitive advantages that have brought him national and international renown. In "Donald Trump: Master Apprentice, " best-selling author Gwenda Blair recounts a true-life history with more twists and turns than any television producer could possibly imagine. Towering skyscrapers and glittering casinos, a luxury airline and a football-field-size yacht, steamy affairs and bitter lawsuits, near bankruptcy and stormy feuds -- all this and more are part of the life of Trump. An adaptation and update of her definitive biography, "The Trumps, " this new book provides fresh material on Donald Trump's brushes with bankruptcy, mammoth construction projects, and ever-expanding place in American life. Drawing on recent interviews with the celebrated real estate magnate, his associates, his rivals, and contestants from his television show, Blair offers new insight into the man who seems to have it all. For the first time, we also get a glimpse of the person who will ultimately decide the fate of the Trump brand: Donald Trump, Jr., the real-life apprentice who hopes to put his own imprint on his father's empire.
