Cet ouvrage met en lumiere la vie et l'oeuvre de Georges Henein, l'un des peres du surrealisme egyptien, souvent compare a Andre Breton. Un premier chapitre analyse l'empreinte historique, litteraire et culturelle laissee par la France sur l'Egypte, de l'expedition de Bonaparte aux annees 1960. Un second volet montre comment le mouvement surrealiste francais a pris racine dans le pays du Levant au cours des annees 1920 et etudie ses effets sur la litterature egyptienne avant la crise de Suez. Le troisiLe troisieme et dernier chapitre est consacre a une analyse de textes choisis et tente de definir le projet poetique et l'orientation politique de l'auteur. Cette reflexion montre egalement en quoi les textes d'Henein sont une contribution majeure a la litterature francaise et francophone et pourquoi ils meritent une place centrale dans le canon litteraire du 20e siecle. Cet ouvrage s'adresse a un large public international et interdisciplinaire. Presents a new window into the literary, philosophical, and theological concerns of this enigmatic thinker and writer.Despite its relative rarity, and the condensed brevity of the poems themselves, poetry occupies a striking place in the literary and philosophical oeuvre of Georges Bataille. For Bataille, poetry had no meaning "except in the violence of revolt," which it could attain "only by evoking the impossible." Georges Didi-Huberman is a philosopher of images whose work is overdue for attention from English-language readers. Since the publication of his first book in 1982, he has published 46 essays, mostly with the prestigious Editions de Minuit, on topics ranging from monographs on individual artists to critical excursions into political philosophy. He is recognised in France and elsewhere in Europe as one of the foremost philosophers of the image writing today. In Georges Didi-Huberman and Film, Alison Smith concentrates on how Didi-Huberman’s work has been informed by cinema, especially in his major (and ongoing) recent work L’Oeil de l’Histoire (The Eye of History). The book traces the development of Didi-Huberman’s visual thought towards a cinematic sensibility already inherent in his early work on images in relationship to each other.
