RM Johnson's extraordinary novel is a stirring family portrait that resonates with emotion and wit, as a father faces death--and the three sons he abandoned so many years before. "Mr. Harris, I'm sorry, but you have cancer." Although devastated to learn he has just one year to live, fifty-five-year-old Julius Harris has always known that the day would come when he would pay for walking out on his wife and three children twenty years earlier. Now, with a sudden and passionate determination to make his family whole again, Julius begins trying to find a way back to his sons. Caleb, the youngest, struggling to support a son and make his way in a relentless world, couldn't care less about his own absentee father. Middle son Marcus can't abide even his father's memory, which gets in the way of his committing to the one woman who has turned his life around. And Austin, Julius' eldest child, so adores what he remembers of his father that he's following in his footsteps, abandoning his wife and children just as Julius had done. Inspired by RM Johnson's own fragile family history, The Harris Men is his poignant exploration of the increasing problem of absentee fathers--and of the compromises made by the families they leave behind. As the Harris men grapple with their fears and their choices, Johnson gets to the very heart of what it means to be a man.

The unforgettable crew of characters from RM Johnson's bestselling debut novel, The Harris Men, returns in a riveting story of love, loss, and second chances.Julius Harris walked out on his family twenty-five years ago—and not a moment goes by when he doesn't regret it. Five years ago, after learning he had cancer, Julius tried to make peace with his three sons. It didn't take. Now, the disease has gone into remission. Overjoyed, Julius is grateful for this miracle, and the time it affords him to make up for his past mistakes. It won't be easy. In Chicago, life isn't exactly simple for his three grown sons. The oldest, Austin, a successful attorney, struggles to be a good father to his children despite his ex-wife's attempts to turn them against him. Marcus, the middle son, wrestles with a fear of commitment that drives away the woman he loves. And young Caleb, just released from prison, fights to rebuild his life and win back his wife and child. The three Harris brothers have a hard enough time being there for each other—let alone a father they haven't seen in years. Nor are they sure they even want him in their lives. Filled with intrigue, romance, and shocking twists, The Harris Family is a deliciously gripping novel of contemporary black relationships and, ultimately, a moving testament to the power of family, love, and forgiveness.

Brian played for Everton, Cardiff and Newport, before managing the Somerset Park side in the early 1970s (arguably their finest period). His Everton career was impressive. After making his debut in the 1955/56 season, he played in over 300 games, mainly as full-back, and was part of the team that came back from 3-2 down to beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 in the 1966 FA Cup final. While with Cardiff, he starred in the team that reached the semi-final of the European Cup Winners Cup and played in more than 150 games for the club. He moved to Newport in 1971 and became manager there in 1973. Today, Brian Harris scouts for Everton in the South West and lives in Chepstow.

In 1924, at the age of 27, manager and second baseman Stanley "Bucky" Harris--aka "The Boy Wonder"--led the Washington Senators to their only World Series championship. His incredible debut season at the helm of the Senators marked the beginning of remarkable 29-year managerial career that earned him a spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame. This detailed biography chronicles Harris's road to the top of his sport, including his youth in the coal mining region of eastern Pennsylvania, his brief stint in professional basketball, his early days as a baseball player, his 1947 world championship as manager of the Yankees, and his role in the racial integration of both the Senators and the Boston Red Sox. By highlighting Harris' easy-going nature and intelligence, this profile makes it perfectly clear why one player being traded to Harris' Senators declared, "Ask any ballplayer who he'd like to play for and he'd say Bucky Harris."

This work examines the allusions to Blake throughout Harris's four Hannibal Lecter novels and provides a Blakean reading of the works as a whole, particularly in regard to the character of Lecter and the nature of evil in the world--and to what extent humanity should accept evil. The novels and their film versions reveal that Harris uses Blake to suggest that good and evil are intertwined and coexist, and that it is foolish to try to see them simply as opposing binaries. Refusing to recognize their intertwined relationship leads to imbalance and a negative outcome, as revealed in the fate of Graham in Red Dragon.

Johana Harris was a musical prodigy who began her education in her native Canada, then moved to New York at the age of 12. The youngest student ever admitted to the Juilliard Graduate School of Music, Harris was destined for greatness on the world stage. However, exploitation by her mother and then by her husband Roy Harris, coupled with the prejudice shown women during the mid-20th century kept her from achieving that pinnacle. Johana Harris: A Biography brings to light the life of an unheralded musical genius, as well as providing new information on her husband Roy Harris, about whom very little is known. This revealing look at the lives of two important musicians—who were referred to in the middle years of the last century as "Mr. and Mrs. American Music"—is the first book published about these two people.

Marjorie Harris Carr (1915-1997) is best known for leading the fight against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Cross Florida Barge Canal. In this first full-length biography, Peggy Macdonald corrects many long-held misapprehensions about the self-described “housewife from Micanopy,” who along with her husband, Archie Carr, a pioneering conservation biologist, struggled to balance career and family.Born in Boston, Carr grew up in southwest Florida, exploring the region's marshes and waterways and observing first-hand the impact of unchecked development on the state’s flora and fauna. Macdonald’s work depicts a determined woman and Phi Beta Kappa scholar who earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in zoology only to see her career thwarted by institutionalized gender discrimination. Carr launched her conservation career in the 1950s while raising five children and eventually became one of the century’s leading environmental activists.A series of ecological catastrophes in the 1960s placed Florida in the vanguard of the burgeoning environmental revolution as the nation’s developing eco-consciousness ushered in a wave of revolutionary legislation. With Carr serving as one of the most effective leaders of a powerful contingent of citizen activists who opposed dredging a canal across the state, “Free the Ocklawaha” became a rallying cry for environmentalists throughout the country.Marjorie Harris Carr is an intimate look at this remarkable woman who dedicated her life to conserving Florida’s wildlife and wild places. It is also a revelation of how the grassroots battle to save a small but vitally important river in central Florida transformed the modern environmental movement.

Puppies!: Featuring the Art of Marianne Harris
Some years ago, while sitting in my art booth at a weekend art event, I discovered that working on a demo painting of a puppy was a sure way to bring people into my booth. I was pleasantly surprised at how many people stopped to talk to me as a result of baby Sierra coming to life on my canvas. After all, who can resist a puppy This book is a collection of 20 opportunities I have taken to paint some adorable puppies. Some of these paintings have won awards in various art competitions. And, I'm honored that they are hanging on walls across the country. Painting puppies has become my bliss Marianne Harris
