Hermann Hesses durch Weltoffenheit, Humanit t und Toleranz gepr gtes Werk er ffnet hier neue Denk- und Handlungsmuster. Die eindringliche Botschaft, dass sinnerf lltes Leben zwischen den Extremen stattfindet, im Sowohl-als-auch der Kulturen, Religionen und Weltanschauungen, zieht sich durch das gesamte literarische Werk des Nobelpreistr gers. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden erstmals lyrische, epische und dramatische Werke des Autors konkordanzartig durch close reading parallel erschlossen und die mannigfaltigen inhaltlichen und strukturellen Polarit ten unter entstehungsgeschichtlichen und gattungsspezifischen Gesichtspunkten kritisch analysiert.
