Naïve young writer Vance Weston, convalescing by the Hudson River, meets Halo Spear and is fired by her passion for literature. They meet again, much later, and, with her rich, cultivated husband, Lewis Tarrant, she introduces him to New York's literary and artistic circles. But an impulsive marriage has brought Vance poverty and unwelcome responsibilities which inhibit his writing until one summer, Halo inspires him to write the novel which makes his name. The conflict between New York sophistication and Midwestern naivety leads to painful dilemmas, involving both couples in perplexity and loss.

“Could somebody pass the salt?” What would you do if someone forgot to give you any lunch and you weren’t allowed to ask for it? Young Hudson Taylor’s story of a missing bowl of soup is an amusing tale from his childhood. In the end Hudson gets his soup – but that isn’t all. Hudson Taylor learns about the country of China. One day he will go there by himself to tell the people of China about the Lord Jesus.

Hudson Taylor & Maria

John Pollock

The story of Hudson Taylor is one of adventure and excitement - of improbable answers to prayer, opposition from the establishment and triumphs of faith. Even more interesting is the story of the relationship at the heart of it all - the story of Hudson and Maria Taylor. There are few love stories as enchanting as that of Hudson Taylor, the pioneering missionary, and Maria Dyer. Their relationship and short marriage flourished in the bitterest of circumstances because their lives were firmly rooted in their devotion to God, as well as to each other. They were a perfect match, (though not perfect people), a couple who show us how to share our lives at the deepest level.John Pollock draws his material extensively from original letters and papers. What unfolds is a picture of courage and adventure in Imperial China, a lost world of pigtails, Mandarins and dragon-roofed temples. It also shows how Maria played a crucial role in shaping the ministry of a Yorkshire lad who, against oriental and western opposition, changed the way that missionaries work.

'It is not so much great faith that we need, but faith in a great God.' At the age of 21, Hudson Taylor ventured on a dangerous sea voyage to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of China, demonstrating this faith he talked of. Why would a young man give up a promising future to venture into an alien country, let alone one torn apart by war? Would the Chinese accept him and would God bless his vision? In the mid-nineteenth century there were few Christian missionaries in China, and not many more Chinese Christians. Hudson Taylor was so moved by the spiritual needs of the Chinese people that he obeyed God's call and dedicated his life to taking the Gospel to the Chinese, founding the China Inland Mission. His story comes alive in this dramatised biography that relays the humanity, humour, and heart of the man widely regarded as one of the most significant and influential missionaries in the history of the Christian Church. Hudson Taylor lived a life that boldly demonstrated faith in a great God, and his life still inspires and challenges many today.

Hudson Valley Homicide

What do you get when you take the tranquil Hudson Valley of New York and add four serial killers, a mass murderer, and a handful of other men and women with guns, knives, and axes, who have homicidal tendencies? You get a fascinating history of unthinkable criminal acts perpetrated against spouses, family members, and complete strangers in a region where still to this day, some people don't even lock their doors. The cases in this book span over a century, and occur in quiet, rural areas, and in bustling town centers. These homicides were committed by both genders, and by people ranging in age from a teen to a senior citizen. The murderers were both highly educated and intelligent, as well as those who were most decidedly not either. In other words, there is no discernible pattern, no cookie cutter description of who is capable of committing these brutal crimes. The next murderer or serial killer could be anyone; your boss, your neighbor, your brother, your best friend, or your wife. Perhaps after reading this book, you'll make sure all of your doors are locked.

Hudson: Don't ever accidentally propose to your girlfriend. In front of her family. Especially if her dad is your boss. Because when you make it clear you've made a mistake, he's likely to send you out of the country to get you as far away from his broken-hearted daughter as possible. It happened to me. Now I'm stuck in Ireland trying to redeem myself so I can get promoted and have the life I've planned for: successful career, loving wife and kids, a comfortable, financially-secure home life in Texas. But all of that seems to evaporate the moment I walk into the historic pub and see the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Only, he's not a woman.Charlie Murray is most definitely a man-the kind of man who causes me to take a second look for the first time in my life. And a third look, and fourth. I can't help but want to get to know him better... to get close to him, touch him, maybe even kiss him. But I'm straight. Or so I've always thought. Even if I'm not, how in the world could a feisty Irishman ever fit into the safe, predictable life I've always planned for?Charlie: Don't ever accidentally fall for the straight guy. Especially when he's trying to pry your family's business right out from under you. I should know. Because when Hudson Wilde walks into my family's pub and begins babbling so adorably, I can't help but fall just a little bit in love. But I'm looking for Forever Man, and the sexy American is certainly not him. He's so confused about what he wants, even choosing something from the dinner menu throws him into a fuddle. But those eyes... how can I resist? So maybe I'll give in. One steamy night before he heads home and I go back to life at the pub. We'll never see each other again.Until, of course, his business deal sends me to Hobie, Texas, right into the middle of Hudson's steady life, more gay Wildes than can fit on a dance floor, and an ex-girlfriend who may or may not be content remaining an ex. But the more time I spend with Hudson, the more I think he might be my Forever Man after all. And I may be his. Is it possible we could both be so lucky?Hudson's Luck is the fourth book in the Forever Wilde series but can be read on its own. Beware it includes 93k words of delicious man parts touching, grandfathers meddling, neighbors nosy-ing, dogs fornicating, cats being cats, horses... ah, crunching apples? or something... and one very flirty Stevie.

This is a fictionalized non-fiction story of a family who initially grew up in the Bay of Bengal area of Indian Subcontinent, then moving to New York area living for decades, connecting with Apalachee Bay of the Gulf of Mexico, near Tallahassee, Florida, via Huntsville, Alabama and Nashville, Tennessee, both cities near Tennessee River before settling in New York, not far from the Hudson River Bay. The project started over a decade ago, with son Shuvo writing his experience as a young man in 2011-2012 how his life was altered by someone transmitting a virus to an energetic person, with 100% school and college attendance, hurting an innocent life. Only after Corona virus appeared in 2020 some became aware of transmission of deadly virus and its effects. Shuvo's dad Sachi joined Shuvo in writing the book. Both of them work for non-profits Probini Foundation which helps the poor and the orphaned in Bangladesh and India, and the other non-profit (ISPaD) the Indian Subcontinent Partition Documentation Project, both of New York. We were helped learning a lot from those project's firsthand experience, and in visiting diverse corners of the world. Shuvo has visited over 40 countries and territories, and dad Sachi over 120 places. In this memoir-type book our travel to countries and territories have helped us to understand the world, and its warmth, friendliness, contradictions, double standards, hypocrisy, persecution, prejudicial writings, and dishonest presentations by Western and Eastern media, where our lives didn't matter. Extremely important experience began when the family visited Sachi's ancestral home of 500 years, from where their family was driven out after an anti-Hindu pogrom in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, after 1947 partition of India. Since 1982 they have visited their occupied home regularly, which exposed hypocrisy of the Left and Right, ignoring our lives. Our experience became a human rights story as well. As there is a saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words," we decided to include pictures for readers to understand it better, especially when it comes from diverse and distant lands. We thank Authors Tranquility to take up the project.
