At the dawn of the 22nd century a cosmic-scale secret is revealed at the deathbed of a dying scientist. What makes this information so special and esoteric? Floods, drought, and pandemics sweep across the world. By 2030 half of Earth's population is wiped out. Those who survive choose different paths. American society regresses to a medieval Dark Age, others, who manage to escape, build a new civilization from scratch. With the help of Zita's invention, mankind sends a spaceship to terraform planet Mars. What they find there affects them profoundly. Some astronauts perish, but --with Masha's discovery and Martian intervention --the last two are saved. The captain falls into a coma, and the most influential encounter humankind has ever faced rests on the shoulders of Ocean alone. A mysterious new reality is revealed. Her perspectives and views are exposed and come under scrutiny. Will humanity pass the test? In the Americas, young rebels form a secret alliance. Two of their leaders, Mirella and Kyle, vow to find the long-lost scientists and end the oppression. When they get separated, their lives take an unexpected turn. Mirella goes through indescribable suffering. Will her determination prevail? The newly founded nations decide to unite humanity, the stage is set, and a global-scale search takes place. When Ocean returns to Earth, an unforeseen chain of events occurs. She's entrusted with the greatest secret of all. The fate of humanity is forever turned. Will mankind be able to re-emerge? Who plays the key role in the Cosmos? Beliefs are challenged, lives are changed, and nothing will ever be the same. Civilizations meet, and bonds form as humanity approaches its destiny. The final twist of the story sets the stage for the second installment of the trilogy, and promises even more mystery to untangle the Cosmic Enigma.

This book explores how the Budapest School of Psychoanalysis took shape and examines the role played in it by Sandor Ferenczi. It integrates the Hungarian story of the "exile of the Budapest School" with an American perspective on "solidarity in the psychoanalytic movement during the Nazi years".

Competition Law and Consumer Protection

Competition Law and Consumer Protection

Katalin Judit Cseres

Kluwer Law International

sidottu
The assumption that competition law and consumer protection are mutually reinforcing is rarely challenged. The theory seems uncontroversial. However, because a positive interaction between the two is presumed to be self-evident, the frequent conflicts that do in fact arise are often dealt with on an ad hoc basis, with no overarching legal authority. There is a clear need for a detailed and coherent understanding of exactly where the complements and tensions between the two policy areas exist. Dr Cseres' in-depth analysis provides that understanding. Proceeding from the dual perspective of law and economics that is, of justice, fairness, and reasonableness on the one hand, and of efficiency of the other she fully considers such underlying issues as the following: the role of competition law and consumer law in a free market economy; the notion of consumer welfare; the effect of the modernisation of EC competition law for consumers; economics theories of information, bounded rationality, and transaction costs; the special significance of vertical agreements and merger control; and, how consumers are affected by information asymmetries. The ultimate focus of the book is on current and emerging EC law, in which a rapprochement between the two areas seems to be under way. Dr. Cseres provides a knowledgeable guide to the various strands of theory, policy, and jurisprudence that (she shows) ought to be taken into account in the process, including schools of thought and law and policy experience in both Europe and the United States. A special chapter on Hungary, where post-1989 law and practice reveal a fresh and distinctly forward-looking understanding of the matter, is one of the book's most extraordinary features. "Competition Law and Consumer Protection" stands alone as a committed contribution to bridging a gap in legal knowledge the significance of which grows daily. It will be of immeasurable value to a wide range of professionals from academics and researchers to officials, policymakers, and practitioners in competition law, consumer protection advocacy, economic theory and planning, business administration, and various pertinent government authorities.
