Das 21. Jahrhundert war Zeuge eines enormen Wachstums der Urbanisierung auf der ganzen Welt. Dieses unkontrollierte Wachstum der St dte und der rasche Bev lkerungszuwachs haben erhebliche Auswirkungen auf den Wassersektor, insbesondere auf die Grundwasserressourcen. Das unkontrollierte Bev lkerungswachstum und die zunehmende Entwicklung der st dtischen Infrastruktur verursachen enorme Sch den und verringern die Verf gbarkeit von Grundwasser in st dtischen Gebieten. Das Grundwasser ist keine unbegrenzte Quelle und muss daher vor berm iger Ausbeutung und Verschmutzung bewahrt werden. Im Jahr 2018 hat die indische Planungskommission mehr als 20 St dte benannt, deren Grundwasserreserven nach dem Jahr 2020 ersch pft sein werden, wobei Shimla und Hyderabad als erste St dte genannt wurden. Daher sind der Schutz der Grundwasserressourcen und ihre ordnungsgem e Nutzung von entscheidender Bedeutung. Zu diesem Zweck wurden Grundwassermodelle erstellt, um die Anf lligkeit und das Risiko einer Verschmutzung der Grundwasserressourcen zu bewerten. Dieses Buch befasst sich mit der Anwendung von Grundwassergef hrdungsmodellen in einem st dtischen Gebiet in einer Geographischen Informationssystemumgebung.
