Poetic Thinking. Now

Poetic Thinking. Now

This book presents my concept of poetic thinking in the context of debates around the anthropological question, that is ‘what is being human?’, building on ‘thinking language’ and dialogical thinking, developing a poetological anthropology. It evokes political and social issues to demonstrate why poetics is of general relevance for our times. The chapters relate these questions to insights of quantum physics and neurosciences and discuss aspects of contemporary technology, media and medicine, employing notions such as atmospheres, immanent transcendence, silence and presence from contemporary thinkers. Poetic thinking considers the world in its togetherness, offering an alternative to the opposition of subject and object. It demonstrates the transformative power in the interaction of the form of language and the form of life. Poetic thinking takes place when a subject constitutes itself in creative and dialogical language, transforming its ways of feeling and thinking, in short, its way of perceiving the world.

This book explores how children living in tourism destinations are particularly susceptible to the impacts of tourism and how they can be included in public policies, programmes and decision-making, focusing particularly on case studies in Europe.Children in Tourism Communities argues that for tourism to exercise its regenerative role and encourage sustainable development, it must be inclusive of all voices, especially children who represent the future generation and will soon become adults with the rights and responsibilities for engaging in and delivering tourism activities. The book is based on original, ground-breaking research assessing the views of children regarding tourism, with a specific focus on sustainable tourism and development. It includes discussion on key case study locations including Croatia, India, Ireland, Malta, Serbia and Slovenia, although the themes, issues and practices have relevance in all tourism destinations worldwide. Through child-centred research, the book evaluates the differences between those living in mass tourism destinations and smaller-scale micro tourism areas. It encourages a rethinking of sustainability as a concept and demonstrates how tourism can be utilised as a tool for achieving the sustainable development goals. This will be an important discussion text for students, academics, and instructors in sustainable tourism and development, destination management, culture and heritage, as well as practitioners engaged in continuing professional development in these areas.

Socialist Economics in Yugoslavia

Socialist Economics in Yugoslavia

This book presents a critical history of Yugoslav socialist economics, from its inception in the late 1940s to its dissolution in the late 1980s. After the dramatic break with the Soviet Union in 1948, Yugoslavia found itself in urgent need of a third way: a socialist trajectory which would not resemble the Soviet model nor succumb to the imperatives of capitalist modernization. This monumental historical task resulted in the gradual constitution of the system of socialist self-management. This book is the first to provide a systematic response to key questions about this specifically Yugoslav form of socialist economics: How did it develop? How was it consolidated into a productive and influential academic discipline? What were the theoretical concerns and empirical procedures used by economists in order to create a modern scientific discipline and advance the cause of socialist Yugoslavia? And finally, how did this body of work enter a terminal crisis and disappear simultaneously with the country itself? Even given its failure, socialist Yugoslavia constitutes one of the more important and sustained twentieth century attempts at build socialism. Thus, the Yugoslav way of thinking remains relevant for contemporary topics such as economic democracy, comparative economic systems and post-capitalist economic models. This book will appeal to all readers interested in the history of economics, economic sociology, political economy, the history of Yugoslavia and socialist debates.
