The critically acclaimed, bestselling author of News of the World and Enemy Women returns to Texas in this atmospheric story, set at the end of the Civil War, about an itinerant fiddle player, a ragtag band of musicians with whom he travels trying to make a living, and the charming young Irish lass who steals his heart. In March 1865, the long and bitter War between the States is winding down. Till now, twenty-three-year-old Simon Boudlin has evaded military duty thanks to his slight stature, youthful appearance, and utter lack of compunction about bending the truth. But following a barroom brawl in Victoria, Texas, Simon finds himself conscripted, however belatedly, into the Confederate Army. Luckily his talent with a fiddle gets him a comparatively easy position in a regimental band.Weeks later, on the eve of the Confederate surrender, Simon and his bandmates are called to play for officers and their families from both sides of the conflict. There the quick-thinking, audacious fiddler can't help but notice the lovely Doris Mary Aherne, an indentured girl from Ireland, who is governess to a Union colonel's daughter. After the surrender, Simon and Doris go their separate ways. He will travel around Texas seeking fame and fortune as a musician. She must accompany the colonel's family to finish her three years of service. But Simon cannot forget the fair Irish maiden, and vows that someday he will find her again.Incandescent in its beauty, told in Paulette Jiles's trademark spare yet lilting style, Simon the Fiddler is a captivating, bittersweet tale of the chances a devoted man will take, and the lengths he will go to fulfill his heart's yearning.

We have always been told that we should share the Gospel with others, because we are God's ambassadors for the Kingdom. But when we stop and think about it, although it is simple, it's often difficult to know where to begin when sharing it with someone. Jesus started His earthly ministry with twelve ordinary men who were mostly religious outsiders. He was confident that they could be used by Him, so why couldn't Paulette be used also. This gave the words "Follow Me" spoken by Jesus, a whole different meaning about her relationship with God. Paulette realized that God wanted a personal relationship with her or anyone else that would come to Him. she now knows that we don't have to be perfect, just willing. This book will be of benefit to anyone who wants a simple understanding about things they never knew about God.

A quick primer on questions asked by children. How do you help them understand the Gospel, the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ and all that it has done for us. In an effort to answer this question and a few others for my granddaughter, I wrote this book as if speaking to her personally. I hope this book helps your efforts to explain life's most important questions through the eyes of a child.

Black women and girls are underrepresented in the STEM fields. In 2019, only 28% of the STEM workforce was female, and only 3% of that workforce was black. This digital skill gap has several negative consequences, both for black women and girls themselves and for society. Black women and girls are less likely to have access to high-quality education in STEM fields and are more likely to face discrimination and harassment in the workplace. As a result, they are less likely to be hired for STEM jobs, and they are more likely to leave STEM jobs early. The lack of black women in STEM fields has several negative consequences for society. SHE, DISRUPTS is the book that will change the way the industry sees itself.
