A witty and warm-hearted novel about a trans teen finding his place in the world perfect for fans of Red, White and Royal Blue There's only one thing standing between Finch Kelly and a full-blown case of high school senioritis: the National Speech & Debate Tournament. Taking home the gold would not only be the pinnacle of Finch's debating career, but the perfect way to launch himself into his next chapter: college in Washington, DC, and a history-making career as the first trans congressman. What could possibly go wrong? Well, for starters, Finch could develop a teeny tiny crush on his very attractive, very taken, and very gay debate partner, Jonah. Never mind that Finch has never considered whether he's interested in more than just girls. And that dream of college in DC? Finch hasn't exactly been accepted anywhere yet, let alone received the full-ride scholarship he'll need to make this dream a reality. Worst of all, though, is this year's topic for Nationals: transgender rights. If he wants to cinch the gold, and get into college, Finch might have to argue against his own humanity. People say there are two sides to every argument. But, as Finch is about to discover, some things--like who you are and who you love--are not up for debate.

Abraham Lincoln and Reconstruction

Abraham Lincoln and Reconstruction

After victorious federal troops swept through southern Louisiana in 1862, the state became the testing ground for Abraham Lincoln's approach to reconstruction, and thus the focal point for the debate over post-war policy in Washington. Peyton McCrary offers a comprehensive account of the social and political upheavals in Louisiana, set against the background of a new interpretation of the revolutionary dimensions of the Civil War party system. He compares the moderate Republican regime set up by Lincoln with the antebellum social and political system, and contrasts it with the reactionary government established in 1865 under the aegis of Andrew Johnson and the Democratic Party. The author also explores the social history of the contract labor system, the evolution of the Freedmen's Bureau, and the growing participation of blacks in the Louisiana Republican movement. Drawing on extensive research in unpublished manuscripts, party records, and newspapers, and using sophisticated quantitative analysis of electoral and legislative behavior, Professor McCrary suggests a significant revision of earlier interpretations of Lincoln's reconstruction policies. He finds that the real architect of the gradualist approach with which the President was publicly identified was his commanding general in Louisiana, Nathaniel P. Banks, who was less open to the idea of Negro suffrage than was Lincoln himself. Originally published in 1979. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Kozlowski was missing. My team and I were sent down to the planet's surface to find him, but instead we found a harem hiding in the middle of the desert.- - -We followed the trail along a dry creekbed for most of the morning, then Chi stopped. I strained to see anything in the rocks ahead, but couldn't. Evers and I joined her to see what her sensors had picked up."Life forms in the rocks ahead. Could be three, could be more, hiding.""Ditto," confirmed Evers. "Metal, too. Could be swords, guns, something like that."Bahkti said, "The tribes have single-shot percussion weapons. Some may be rifles.""Stun five," I ordered. "We don't know that they're dangerous, or even that they're the enemy.""Copy," said three voices simultaneously. We adjusted our blasters, lowered our visors, and started slowly forward.- - -Bargain Princess is a "space operetta", a futuristic science fiction novella. 15 chapters, approximately 21000 words.Advisory: Due to coarse language and some adult subject matter, this book is recommended for ages 16 and older.

Catharine Scott is over it. Working on Saturdays. Cranky clients. Student debt. Law is not so glam as she was lead to believe. But this new case does have a twist. Today's cranky client, the ancient Mrs. Winkler, wants her to inspect the old family house located waaay back in the country, near a crossroads called Hood's Bluff. It's always nice to get out of the office. But then there's the matter of the former inhabitant, the notoriously eccentric Clara Hood. She'd died at the house and her body was delivered to the hospital but now she's-to put it simply-gone. Just gone. And when Catharine arrives at the house it's pretty clear that someone is in there. Which is wrong. And it turns out the intruder wasn't interested in the obvious things, but was trying to steal some strange old books. Which is weird. And why do these huge black birds keep staring at her? Which is so weird. Catharine needs help, and she cobbles together a team. Duncan Lowe is an archaeologist and historian. And whose British accent is not unlike a stiff gin-and-tonic. Ann Hull is a deacon in the nearby Episcopal church and utterly fearless. Logan Stanley is a cub reporter for the Fort Baldwin Advocate and a magnet for trouble. John Coker is a linguist and code-breaker who was brought in as a consultant but who stays on to become part of Catharine's quest. Because when they learn what Clara Hood was up to in that creepy old house, well, you'll see...
