This historical and romantic memoir ranges over five generations from the late 19th Century to the mid-20th Century. It is the life story of my grandmother, Rose Ethel Harding. Beginning in 1852 with the arrival of the Harding family in Sydney, Australia. John Harding Jnr was her father. The narrative follows the journey of his family until the birth of his daughter, Rose Ethel. Rose then tells her story from her childhood in Wagga Wagga to her mature age. She married the man she loved, had four sons and four grandchildren. During her life she lost two babies at birth, experienced two depressions and two world wars. She faced religious opposition from her father, the Catholic Church, her eldest son and her brother-in-law. We follow her triumphs over disappointment and grief, religious animosity and conflict with determination fortitude and love.
Rose watches the three Goddesses as they move around the fire. They must have a secret. What is it? Rose wants to know. She wants to be part of their world. Amidst the flicker of the fire with the full moon beaming down on them, Rose learns that one day, the spirit of the Goddess will awaken within her. She will have her Menarche and transition into being a woman. The three Goddesses are there to guide her every step of the way. Ayla gives Rose a red box and shows her all of the things a woman might need through her cycle. Bess gives Rose the wisdom to look after her mind and body through the course of puberty and Mum shows Rose how to truely celebrate this important milestone in the life of a woman. 'Rose and the Awakening of the Goddess' serves as a doorway for any awakening Goddess to grow into a self respecting woman who is connected to herself and to the rhythms of nature.
