As a boy, Alexander 'Sandy' Calder was always fiddling with odds and ends, making objects for friends. When he got older and became an artist, his fiddling led him to create wire sculptures. One day, Sandy made a lion. Next came a lion cage. Before he knew it, he had an entire circus and was traveling between Paris and New York performing a brand-new kind of art for amazed audiences. This is the story of Sandy's Circus, as told by Tanya Lee Stone with Boris Kulikov's spectacular and innovative illustrations. Calder's original circus is on permanent display at the Whitney Museum in New York City.

Sandy missed the boy that raised her. She refused to connect with anyone that considered adopting her as a pet. She was terrified and sat in the corner shaking with fear. It seemed there was little hope of finding a home for this large, muscular dog. Could there be a family for such a lonely creature? A heart warming story that reminds us finding a real friend is worth the effort.

Growing up, making choices, being responsible for yourself and the choices we all make might seem everyday to some, but for 12-year-old Sandy, it is a new and liberating experience. Sandy has grown up under the influence of her widower, rugby-coach father and her athletic older sister Roxie. When her father and sister go to England for a rugby tournament, they leave Sandy in the care of her three great aunts, referred to in family lore as the "weird sisters." The mysterious Weird Sisters have not been seen in years; or so Dad says. Each of the aunts espouses a different faith -- Catholicism, Mormonism, and Unitarianism -- and yet they respect and support each others' practice, while Sandy views them as the outside seeker of truth she truly is. Sandy enrolls in a literature course, dance classes, and winds up in a community musical production, abandoning the girls' soccer team with which she is supposed to be playing. During her three weeks with her aunts, and never having attended any religious services before, she takes part in services and activities at each of her aunts' churches, finding things that she admires as well as things that confuse her. Her identity of self is to be forged during these three weeks -- striking while the metal is hot, so to speak -- an identity that she will take the remainder of her life to fashion and finish.Reading level of 10+ to adult. This book traces the archaeological history of Pylos and surrounding regions in Messenia from the Palaeolithic to the present. Designed as much for general readers and travelers interested in ancient Greece as for scholars, the volume presents the findings of the Pylos Regional Archaeological Project (PRAP), which has intensively studied the region over the past 15 years. The 1998 edition, originally published by the University of Texas Press and widely used as a textbook in undergraduate classes, is reprinted with a new preface assessing PRAP's impact and outlining new discoveries in the region.

Angel and Demons collide in Sandy's Story (Ditch Lane Diaries 3). Investigative reporter, Sandy Cothran follows a murder lead on Music Row, which uncovers Luc's Testament along with a string of related crimes.Baldric is falling in love with his ward, Sandy, breaking the rules of heaven and places her in danger because Luc is waiting in the wings to pounce at his given moment."D.F. Jones does it again. Definitely, a book you'll want to sink your teeth into. So well written, great plot and entertaining characters that you can't help to fall in love with. A definite page-turner. This Series had me at book one, and I couldn't put it down. Each story brings you closer to each character, but this one was by far my absolute favorite. This book tells Sandy's story. I love her. And Baldric, what's not to love about him. This book is too good to give away too much, so I'll just say that if I were an angel, this book would have me sprinkling love dust all over the place. High five, DF Jones. Remarkable Read ""This is the third book in the Ditch Lane Diaries. The first two books were good, but this one surpasses them. Don't get me wrong; I love all the books. However, this book is my favorite of them all. The series follows the story of three friends; each book focuses on one. This is Sandy's story, and my, what a story It combines suspense, romance, and supernatural elements, creating an unforgettable tale. The author wrapped up the series well and ties most of the loose ends. The book is well written, the characters were vivid, and the story was gripping and sucked you right in from the start. This is a story about powerful love, loss, family, trust, and good vs., evil. As the tale gets underway, it has you grasping for more. If you didn't read the series, I suggest you start with the first book as each book is tied to the next one. Highly recommended "
