How the heck do you cook in this country?This was a problem from the time we landed. As I stood at the store converting colones to dollars I quickly became overwhelmed after looking at a small jar of peanut butter and realizing it was going to cost me $6.24 I turned around and looked at the bag of Doritos that I was going to put with the PB&J sandwiches and it took everything not to cry in the middle of the store. My conversion calculator displayed the price of the 7oz bag to be $4.13. I quickly realized that I was going to go broke just trying to feed my family. That feeling did not stop as I made my way through the rest of the store converting the price on the foods. From strange fruit to extremely high prices on the food we were accustomed to in the US, Cooking in Costa Rica was going to prove to be a challenge. That night I sat down with my husband Steve talking about what we were going to do. We reminded each other that this was an adventure and it was going to take some work to figure it out, but the Page family was up to the challenge.
