With her music and boundless passion for life, Tina Turner enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Peter Lindbergh was a lifelong friend of the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll and shot intimate portraits of her over many years. Lindbergh’s photographs do more than just document her iconic status; they reveal the powerful, joyful, and at times introverted woman behind the public persona. Through his lens, Peter Lindbergh captured Tina Turner’s radiant energy with an incredible sensitivity and his impeccable understanding of dramatic composition. His work shows Tina in all her complexity, blending her fierce spirit with quieter, more reflective moments.Across numerous settings—from the stage to the beach, from the streets to the iconic Eiffel Tower, with the city of Paris sprawling beneath her—Peter portrayed Tina throughout the years, always capturing the real Tina. His photos depict her singing, dancing, and simply being herself, effortlessly showcasing the depth of her character. Each image tells a story, a testament to her vitality and complexity, both on stage and in life. In each of these portraits, Tina is immediately recognizable. The book, which includes a personal foreword by Tina Turner’s husband Erwin Bach, is a heartfelt tribute to the friendship and deep connection between two artists who shaped the cultural landscape of the 20th century. It’s more than a collection of photographs; it’s a celebration of a shared journey of creativity, trust, and mutual respect. “We were partners in crime,” remembers Tina. “He was willing to try anything—and so was I! Together, we made magic!” The magic they made together lives on in Peter Lindbergh’s photographs. This book—a collection of images created during their long professional collaboration and enduring friendship—tells their special story.
Tina Gillen: Faraway So Close (Bilingual edition)
Concerned primarily with the medium of painting, the work of Tina Gillen examines how we relate to the world around us, namely through the themes of landscape and dwelling. Her paintings often originate in photographic images that she modifies, simplifies, pictorially "translates," and pairs with other elements to arrive at compositions that purposefully nurture a certain ambiguity, somewhere between abstraction and figuration, construction and improvisation, the surface of the canvas and the translation of a space. This book is being published in conjunction with her exhibition Faraway So Close, presented at the Luxembourg Pavilion as part of the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Richly illustrated, the catalogue also includes three essays addressing various aspects of Tina Gillen’s work—the relationship between painting and space, the ties between painting and photography, and the meaning of landscape today—as well as an extensive interview with the artist.
Tina Modotti
Embracing every aspect of Modotti's brief but stellar career and filled with archival images and insightful essays, this is certain to be the definitive reference work on a photographer whose art was suffused with humanity, emotion, compassion and technical brilliance. Tina Modotti's work spans less than a decade, but in that time she created uniquely powerful and lyrical images that combine masterful technique with a deep concern for the rights of the poor and marginalized. Organized thematically, this sweeping overview of her life and oeuvre offers gorgeous reproductions of her portraits, still lifes, architectural images, and documentary photographs. The wide- ranging and substantial biographical material offers important and illuminating background about her experience in the theater and silent film industry, her relationship with Edward Weston and friendships with Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, her political radicalization and her activism around worker's rights and Mexico's indigenous peoples. Uniquely adept at spanning the genres of abstraction and landscape, portraiture and photojournalism, Modotti was as talented as she was passionate. This tribute to her life and work firmly establishes her as one of the most important photographers of her time.
