Impression techniques in prosthodontics represent a fundamental aspect of restorative dentistry, serving as the critical foundation for successful prosthetic rehabilitation. These techniques encompass various methodologies designed to accurately capture and record the oral tissues' morphology, ensuring optimal fit and function of the final prostheses. Impressions are required for fabricating indirect restorations and indirect prostheses. The choice of impression material depends on the type of prosthesis. While some materials have multiple uses, predictable and precise impressions are achieved using specific materials for removable and fixed prosthodontics. Regrettably, substandard impressions are often accepted by clinicians in the expectation that the dental technician can 'fake and make' missing or inadequate details of intra-oral anatomy. This collection of studies examines the various types and uses of ideas of ”the other” and othering in Joseph Conrad’s fiction. It offers examinations of different aspects of the colonial other both in Africa and Latin America, including a personal reminiscence of American imperialism by a descendant of a character mentioned in Conrad’s fiction.The first three papers offer insights into Conrad’s artistic presentation of both the historical and concrete side of capitalism and imperialism as well as the universal aspects of these social-political-economic formations. The next four studies theorize the colonial other, from European/Western perspectives and from Third World perspectives. The final four papers concern otherness in seamanship, in terms of the imperial other and alterity, and the female as other, othering by gender.The dimensions of the other in Conrad’s fiction that the collection examines are mainly colonial, imperial, and civilizational, set in the realities of geographical space of Africa, Latin America, and the Far East, the reality at sea, and the reality of gendered humanity. Värmen från en stolsits (som någon just rest sig från) är infra-tunn (inframince), skriver Marcel Duchamp. När tobaksröken också doftar av munnen som andas ut den, förenas de två dofterna genom det infra-tunna; infra-tunt är det avstånd som finns mellan detonationsljudet från ett gevär (på mycket nära avstånd) och framträdandet av märket efter kulan på måltavlan (på ett maxavstånd på tre till fyra meter). Dessa Duchampska definitioner av det infra-tunna är en av många möjliga ingångar (det möjliga är någonting 'infra-tunt', skriver också Duchamp) till Stigmarks various parts corners world. As far as is known, Theophilus's was the only treatise on almost all the major arts that was produced during the thousand years of the Middle Ages. In his preface he presents the philosophical attitudes to the visual arts of a thinking man of the time. In his main text, which he divides into three Books, he explains the contemporary techniques of making wall-paintings, manuscripts paintings, stained glass windows, ivory carvings, and various kinds of metalwork. The first references to oil painting and paper occur in the treatise, which also gives the earliest known instructions for making an organ. Theophilus's treatise has been of interest to scholars for some centuries. It was referred to by Cornelius Agrippa in the sixteenth century, and was the basis of an article by Lessing in the eighteenth. The original autograph manuscript has not survived, but the reconstruction of it by Professor Dodwell is now considered to provide its only definitive text: this comprehensive edition includes an English translation on facing pages and full introductory and textual commentary.
