OVER TWO MILLION COPIES SOLDAn insightful look at the science behind love, Attached offers readers a road map for building stronger, more fulfilling connections.‘Over a decade after its publication, one book on dating has people firmly in its grip.’ New York Times Is there a science to love? In this groundbreaking book, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Amir Levine and psychologist Rachel S. F. Heller reveal how an understanding of attachment theory – the most advanced relationship science in existence today – can help us find and sustain love.Pioneered by psychologist John Bowlby in the 1950s, the field of attachment explains that each of us behaves in relationships in one of three distinct ways:Anxious people are often preoccupied with their relationships and tend to worry about their partner’s ability to love them back.Avoidant people equate intimacy with a loss of independence and constantly try to minimize closeness.Secure people feel comfortable with intimacy and are usually warm and loving. With fascinating psychological insight, quizzes and case studies, Dr Amir Levine and Rachel Heller help you understand the three attachment styles, identify your own and recognize the styles of others so that you can find compatible partners or improve your existing relationship.

Korvaamalla taiteen dokumentoinnissa pääsääntöisesti käytettävät valokuvat suosituskirjeillä teos hämärtää taiteen ja sen esityksen väisiä rajoja.ENGLISHAttached is a collection of texts that document a diverse range of artworks made by Jessie Bullivant (AU/FI) over the past decade. By replacing the default photographic documentation with written accounts, the artist raises questions about how immaterial artworks are preserved, accessed and ultimately remembered, allowing space for nuances often lost in photographic documentation. As an incomplete survey of the artist's work, the book blurs the boundaries between art and its documentation, between a conventional monograph and an experimental artist's book. It gives an exciting glimpse into a committed artistic practice tackling a variety of issues from representation, power and access to subtle social interactions.

Survivor meets The Bachelor in Attached at the Hip, an irresistible, romantic adventure by New York Times bestselling author Christine Riccio. Orie Lennox has spent her entire life prepping for her happily ever after -- and now that she's graduated, she's low-key wondering, when the heck is it gonna hit. Her love life, her new job, her relationship with her sister: none of it is quite what she envisioned it to be. One evening, on a whim, she applies for a reality show where she'll be stranded on an island, with a bunch of strangers, to play a game of human chess for a shot at a million dollars. What better way to force herself to break up with the things that aren't bringing her joy, than to abandon them all on short notice to live off the grid on a beach in the South Pacific Orie's shocked when she ends up cast in an experimental romantic edition of the show: and even more surprised to find that her old high school crush, Remy, has been cast as well. Orie's one of ten contestants, set to compete in formidable challenges, while speed dating, in the wilderness: without deodorant, toilets, shaving cream, or showers. (How ?) She finds herself tied up -- literally -- in a game of risky alliances as she navigates ever-growing feelings for her one that got away, alongside an exciting array of budding new relationships.

Discover how an understanding of adult attachment--the most advanced relationship science in existence today--can help us find and sustain love "Over a decade after its publication, one book on dating has people firmly in its grip."--The New York TimesWe already rely on science to tell us what to eat, when to exercise, and how long to sleep. The struggle to understand the infant-parent bond ranks as one of the great quests of modern psychology, one that touches us deeply because it holds so many clues to how we become who we are. How are our personalities formed? How do our early struggles with our parents reappear in the way we relate to others as adults? Why do we repeat with our own children--seemingly against our will--the very behaviors we most disliked about our parents? In Becoming Attached, psychologist and noted journalist Robert Karen offers fresh insight into some of the most fundamental and fascinating questions of emotional life. Karen begins by tracing the history of attachment theory through the controversial work of John Bowlby, a British psychoanalyst, and Mary Ainsworth, an American developmental psychologist, who together launched a revolution in child psychology. Karen tells about their personal and professional struggles, their groundbreaking discoveries, and the recent flowering of attachment theory research in universities all over the world, making it one of the century's most enduring ideas in developmental psychology. In a world of working parents and makeshift day care, the need to assess the impact of parenting styles and the bond between child and caregiver is more urgent than ever. Karen addresses such issues as: What do children need to feel that the world is a positive place and that they have value? Is day care harmful for children under one year? What experiences in infancy will enable a person to develop healthy relationships as an adult?, and he demonstrates how different approaches to mothering are associated with specific infant behaviors, such as clinginess, avoidance, or secure exploration. He shows how these patterns become ingrained and how they reveal themselves at age two, in the preschool years, in middle childhood, and in adulthood. And, with thought-provoking insights, he gives us a new understanding of how negative patterns and insecure attachment can be changed and resolved throughout a person's life. The infant is in many ways a great mystery to us. Every one of us has been one; many of us have lived with or raised them. Becoming Attached is not just a voyage of discovery in child emotional development and its pertinence to adult life but a voyage of personal discovery as well, for it is impossible to read this book without reflecting on one's own life as a child, a parent, and an intimate partner in love or marriage.

Religion has become deeply involved in HIV/AIDS treatment, care and prevention, and is substantially influencing attitudes and behaviour in the domains of sexuality, relationships and the body. At the same time, AIDS as a disease, as a field of biomedicine, and as a realm of international aid interventions is heavily affecting socio-religious formations and developments in Africa. Religion and AIDS are transforming African public and private domains together. Yet, scant attention is paid to the ways in which this intertwined engagement between the domains of religion and the domains of AIDS prevention, care, and treatment in African societies become increasingly linked to an outside world. This book seeks to address the question why so much of the transnational religious engagement with the disease has seemed to serve a conservative agenda. It is unique in drawing attention to the transnationalisation of religion and AIDS in Africa. The disciplinary scope for studying this phenomenon is wide-ranging as it speaks to anthropological, sociological, developmental, historical, and religious studies, and global health perspectives on these issues. Introducing concepts from the study of transnationalism into the study of religion and AIDS and their mutual intertwinement, this book offers the various fields which explore how religious ideologies and moralities have been shaping the experience of AIDS in Africa a new set of conceptual tools for analysis. The multi-disciplinary, empirical chapters from a wide range of localities shows how African public domains are being shaped by forces that are transnational, steered by forceful religious and moral agendas, and often have substantial international resources behind them. These are, so the authors argue, the strings attached to the present-day transnational, religious involvement with AIDS in Africa.
