When I started writing this book, I wanted to do something a little different. While there is a larger plot driving the action, Daughter of Fate is really about family and how that word can mean different things to different people. At the centre of the story is Pela and her uncle Devon, and their quest to rescue Pela's mother. In the past, Devon has conquered nations and defeated demons, but that now it's his family in danger, he may be too old to protect them. Is this your first novel? Daughter of Fate is my tenth complete novel The story is set in the Three Nations - where two of my prior trilogies were also based. The Sword of Light trilogy takes place 150 years before Daughter of Fate, while the Legend of the Gods tells the story of Devon when he was a young man. You can find both trilogies right here on Amazon What do you think makes a good story? I think a good story needs great characters. The plot and world can be as fascinating and expansive as you like, but you're not going to care about it unless you care about the characters. That's why I've always considered David Gemmell one of my greatest inspirations - his characters were so engaging, I could hardly bare to put down one of his novels. I also loved David Eddings, Tamora Pierce, and of course the great G.R.R. Martin for the same reasons Do you hear from your readers much? Do you want to hear from them? I do and I do I mostly keep in contact with my readers through my weekly newsletter (which you can subscribe to below) and my Facebook page, where I post about my travels around the world. Often you'll find my pictures strangely similar to some of the scenes and locations in my novels;-) There's a lot of European influence in Daughter of Fate. In fact, Pela's home village is taken straight from the tiny medieval town of Kotor, in Montenegro
