Rebellion, Crises and Social Transformation: Lessons From the Detroit July 1967 Rebellion and Beyond
Five decades after the July 1967 Rebellion in Detroit there are still fierce debates over how to define the events which changed the course of African American history during the period of the transition from Civil Rights to African American Liberation. Abayomi Azikiwe sums up the lessons from 1967 and their implications for the contemporary racially charged atmosphere existing in the United States during the second decade of the 21st century.

"This book is a real gem - useful not only for nurses, but for all healthcare professionals, students and educators wanting to develop their communication skills. One is reminded that it is not always about 'what' is said, but 'how' it is said. This book will be a great resource for those advocating interprofessional working, while keeping the patient's perspective in the reader's mind throughout."Dr Susanne Lindqvist, Senior Lecturer in Interprofessional Education, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK."This book is slim line and concise but covers a lot of vital points that all nurses and students of nursing should be aware of. It is well laid out with activities, case studies and vignettes to illustrate key issues... I thoroughly recommend this book to nursing students and those who work with people in any context."Jo Parham, third year adult nursing student at the University of the West of England. "From a Nursing Student perspective this book is excellent. It deals with every aspect of communication from the fundamental skills, through the use of technology, challenging situations, communication in teams, to the legal and ethical aspects of communication."Conor Hamilton, Nursing student. Queens University, Belfast. An essential guide for all nurses!! With an emphasis on practical application, this lively and accessible guide will help nurses to hone and develop their communication skills. Full of examples from both a patient and a nurse perspective, the book covers:Barriers to communication Communication in teams The patient's perspectiveMaking good use of email and phoneManaging difficult conversations How good communication underpins the essence of care Examples of both good and poor practice, taken from the real-life experiences of the authors, are included to encourage reflection and integration of theory and practice. The book includes common scenarios, activity points and suggestions for practice, to give nurses the tools to continue to develop and apply effective communication skills.Communication Skills for Adult Nurses will support both student nurses learning their craft and also offer a suitable handy reference for qualified nurses undertaking continuing professional development, or acting as mentors.Contributors: Bernard Anderson, Jayne Crow, Graham Harris, Vivian Jellis, Mary Northrop, Paula Sobiechowska, Jill Toocaram

Poetry manuals, at their most essential, are aimed at demystifying aspects of poetry, in order to make poetry less daunting – especially for beginner poets. Such manuals are also reminders that poetry itself is a discipline with a landscape and a history. Far Villages builds on the body of work in this tradition by bringing a number of established and emerging poets together in a single volume to welcome new and beginner poets to the art of poetry, its craft, and the long journey within it. Contributors to this anthology include:Abayomi Animashaun, Jose Araguz, Stacey Balkun, Chaun Ballard, Christine Beck, David Bergman, Marina Blitshteyn, Michelle Bonczek, DanielBosch, Zoe Brigley, Aaron Brown, Guillermo Cancio-Bello, Rob Carney, Kelly Cherry, Michael Collins, Tasha Cotter, Rishi Dastidar, Noah Davis, Victoria L. No two immigrant poets are the same. Even those from the same country don’ t necessarily answer to the same poetics or, for that matter, speak to the same concerns. How, then, do immigrant poets in America define themselves? How do they see and position themselves within the landscape of American poetry or the poetic traditions of their own country? Who might they consider their influences? Answers to these questions are complex, individual, and varied, as seen with the essays included in this anthology.Contributors: Zubair Ahmed, Kazim Ali, Abayomi Animashaun, Lisa Birman, Ewa Chrusciel, Kwame Dawes, Michael Dumanis, Megan Fernandes, Cristiá n Flores Garcí a, Danielle Legros Georges, Rigoberto Gonzá lez, Maria Victoria A. Antitrust: The Person-centred Approach

Antitrust: The Person-centred Approach

Abayomi Al-Ameen

This book proposes a different approach to theorising and analysing antitrust issues, working on the premise that at present, antitrust is addressed from top-down and narrow perspectives which in effect limit the attention paid to or exclude issues that could otherwise be considered. This reasoning is motivated by the pursuit of inclusiveness and broadness in the antitrust context. The work contends that traditional top-down antitrust theories are weak because they are incomplete and insufficient in their description and analysis of antitrust issues. Thus, it identifies the need to construct a bottom-up approach. Invariably, such an approach would have to avoid ex ante judgments about the suitability of the normative contents of antitrust laws and theories, lest it fall into the same trap that plagues traditional theories. As a possible solution, the author proposes a procedural account referred to as the person-centred approach (built on theories such as Sen’s Capability) and carefully reviews its practicality.
