With his star rising steadily, he died suddenly of a heart attack, alone at home. Adored by the general public, his death was one of the most shocking losses to British comedy of the late seventies, and since then there has never been an actor with the same innocent charm as Richard Beckinsale. Nor did his popularity wane after his untimely death: repeats of the classic sitcoms Porridge and Rising Damp would keep his memory alive throughout the ensuing three decades. The Richard Beckinsale Story is an uplifting, but ultimately sad, tale of the life and death of a great talent. It is the compelling story of a man destined for greatness, but ultimately cut down in his prime.

This collection profiles understudied figures in the book and print trades of the seventeenth century. With an equal balance between women and men, it intervenes in the history of the trades, emphasising the broad range of material, cultural, and ideological work these people undertook. It offers a biographical introduction to each figure, placing them in their social, professional, and institutional settings. The collection considers varied print trade roles including that of the printer, publisher, paper-maker, and bookseller, as well as several specific trade networks and numerous textual forms. The biographies draw on extensive new archival research, with details of key sources for further study on each figure. Chronologically organised, this Element offers a primer both on numerous individual figures, and on the tribulations and innovations of the print trade in the century of revolution.

This monograph lays out a discussion framework for understanding the role of human-computer interaction (HCI) in public policymaking. It takes an international view, discussing potential areas for research and application and their potential for impact. The aim is to provide a solid foundation for discussion, cooperation and collaborative interaction, and to outline future programs of activity. It starts with an introduction to HCI and public policy and goes on to discuss how HCI research and practices already inform public policy, providing representative examples. It then discusses how public policy influences HCI and provides representative public policy areas that are relevant to HCI, and where HCI could have even more impact in the future. It concludes by laying out a framework for involvement and suggested actions by the HCI community in public policy internationally. This monograph summarizes the observations and recommendations from a daylong workshop at the CHI 2013 conference in Paris, France. The workshop invited the community’s perspectives regarding the intersection of governmental policies, international and domestic standards, recent HCI research discoveries, and emergent considerations and challenges. It also incorporates contributions made after the workshop by workshop participants and by individuals who were unable to participate in the workshop but whose work and interests were highly related and relevant.

My hair is a statement and always will be, even when I no longer have any. The social revolution of the Swinging Sixties led to a renaissance of unchecked hair growth, and long hair, especially on men, was worn as a political or countercultural symbol of protest and as an expression of masculinity. No-one who was affected by one of a turbulent decade's loudest controversies - or anyone who ever wondered what all the fuss was about - will fail to be interested in this personal account of when the 'us and them' divide between youth and elders was most profound.
