Semiconducting and Metallic Polymers

Semiconducting and Metallic Polymers

Conducting and semiconducting (conjugated) polymers have a unique set of properties, combining the electronic properties of metals and semiconductors with the processing advantages and mechanical properties of polymers. Now, thirty-five years after their discovery, metallic conducting polymers have been demonstrated in the laboratory to have electrical conductivities approaching that of copper, and mechanical strengths exceeding that of steel, a remarkable achievement. A wide variety of electrical and optical devices have been demonstrated using semiconducting polymers. Light-emitting devices have been made which are as bright as fluorescent lamps at applied voltages of only a few volts; photovoltaic solar energy conversion using conjugated polymer composites is in industrial production; conjugated polymer transistors, circuits and chips have been demonstrated. Indeed, semiconducting and metallic polymers can be thought of as electronic 'inks'. The advances in printing technology (ink-jet printing, off-set printing, etc) combined with the science and technology of conducting polymers will revolutionize the way in which electronic devices are manufactured. In addition, semiconducting and metallic polymers can be used in applications which require special mechanical properties such as flexibility. The field of semiconducting and conducting polymers has become one of the most attractive areas of interdisciplinary materials science and technology. Ranging from physics, chemistry, electrical and electronic engineering to the optical sciences, this field covers a wide range of competences and interdisciplinary knowledge.

Thirty-Seven Myths about Marriage describes common misconceptions about what happens in marriage--myths that never come true, no matter how much one believes them. Unhealthy thoughts, feelings, and behaviors flow from those myths that harm the couple and their relationship, leaving them unhappy and dissatisfied. The authors provide realistic suggestions for a healthier approach to marriage and attainable goals. The book also contains questions for personal reflection or group discussion among individuals, couples, groups, or with a personal counselor or life coach.

The Stratford Festival Story

The Stratford Festival Story

J. Alan B. Somerset

Greenwood Press
1991
sidottu
This reference book records the activities of the Stratford, Ontario (Shakespeare) Festival, which is considered the premiere professional festival in North America. Alan Somerset documents not only the Stratford theater activities, but also the Festival's many tours, television productions, and out-of-season and workshop performances. Somerset has used the latest database-management techniques to create the most complete reference book on the Festival to date. He has organized his work into three parts: a catalogue index, title index and name index. Somerset also offers a summary of the Festival's history and guides readers to the range of material preserved in the Festival Archives.Somerset introduces the indexes by sketching the Festival's history and guiding readers to the Festival Archives and to his own database, which can be used by the public. The Catalogue Index documents all the recoverable details (including important review information) about each production, workshop, tour, television broadcast, and other type of performance mounted by Stratford. The Title Index provides complete reference to particular plays, and the Name Index allows readers to trace the careers of all performers and production staff members in the Festival's history. This book, which also contains several photographs, is valuable to theater critics, Festival patrons, and students of performance criticism, Shakespeare, and modern theater history.

Did you know . . . ?Michigan is seventeenth in oil production in the United States. The Great Lakes are said to be the only glacially produced structures that can be seen from the moon.Michigan was once part of a coral reef. The wood frog is one of the commonest true frogs of moist woodland floors in Michigan today and is able to freeze solid during the winter without harmful effects. These and many more amazing facts await the curious traveler in The Michigan Roadside Naturalist, J. Alan and Margaret B. Holman's captivating guide to the natural treasures of Michigan. A perfect accompaniment to the classic Michigan Trees and The Forests of Michigan, this user-friendly guide offers a Who's Who of the geology, biology, and archaeology of the Great Lakes State, as well as highway adventures along the state's major routes. The book begins with an educational yet accessible tour of important points in Michigan's natural and archaeological history, followed by seven road trips based on commonly traveled state routes, moving from south to north in the Lower Peninsula and east to west in the Upper Peninsula. Readers can proceed directly to the road trips or familiarize themselves with the state's treasure trove of fascinating features before embarking. Either way, an informative and fun odyssey awaits the passionate naturalist, amateur or otherwise.J. Alan Holman is Curator Emeritus of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Michigan State University Museum and Emeritus Professor of Geology and Zoology at Michigan State University. Margaret B. Holman is Research Associate at Michigan State University Museum and Department of Anthropology, Michigan State University.

Recommendations for improving the maternal and child health care system in the Pittsburgh region. An overview of a family-centered, community-based approach to improving the maternal and child health care system in the Pittsburgh region. Based on a review of best practices in maternal and child health care and an assessment of strengths, weaknesses, and barriers to improvement in the current system, targets for local policy reform are identified and a vision, strategy, and action plan for achieving systemwide improvements in maternal and child health care processes and outcomes are outlined.

This book presents a process for problem resolution, policy crafting, and decision making based on the use of modeling and simulation. Detailed descriptions of the methods by which Visual SLAM and AweSim, version 3, support this process are presented. The text is organized into four parts: Introduction to Simulation, Visual SLAM Network Modeling and AweSim, Simulation Analysis, and Visual SLAM Discrete, Continuous and Combined Modeling.

Emphasizes a Problem Solving ApproachA first course in combinatoricsCompletely revised, How to Count: An Introduction to Combinatorics, Second Edition shows how to solve numerous classic and other interesting combinatorial problems. The authors take an easily accessible approach that introduces problems before leading into the theory involved. Although the authors present most of the topics through concrete problems, they also emphasize the importance of proofs in mathematics.New to the Second EditionThis second edition incorporates 50 percent more material. It includes seven new chapters that cover occupancy problems, Stirling and Catalan numbers, graph theory, trees, Dirichlet’s pigeonhole principle, Ramsey theory, and rook polynomials. This edition also contains more than 450 exercises. Ideal for both classroom teaching and self-study, this text requires only a modest amount of mathematical background. In an engaging way, it covers many combinatorial tools, such as the inclusion-exclusion principle, generating functions, recurrence relations, and Pólya’s counting theorem.
