Anders als die meisten anderen spätantiken Bibeldichtungen weist die Alethia des Claudius Marius Victorius neben Einflüssen aus dem paganen Epos starke Bezüge zum Lehrgedicht und speziell zu Lukrez auf. Obwohl einzelne Lukrezparallelen schon im 19. Jh. beobachtet wurden, wurde nie umfassend untersucht, in welchem Verhältnis epische und lehrdichterische Züge in der Alethia zueinander stehen. Die vorliegende Arbeit analysiert systematisch die epischen und lehrdichterischen Elemente im Werk, wobei formale und inhaltliche Aspekte gleichermaßen berücksichtigt werden. Im Zuge der Untersuchung werden auch Bezüge zu Tendenzen der spätantiken Dichtung sowie zentrale theologische Anliegen des Autors herausgearbeitet. Abschließend wird auf der Grundlage der Untersuchungsergebnisse die Stellung der Alethia im Kontext der spätantiken Bibeldichtung neu bestimmt. Insgesamt gelingt es, sowohl die Abhängigkeiten als auch die Spezifika der Alethia schärfer als zuvor sichtbar zu machen - und damit zugleich die Vielfalt und Produktivität der lange vernachlässigten Gattung Bibeldichtung aufzuzeigen.

The authors first present a theoretical framework through which the changeable mix of relative group capacities and the resulting tactical decisions can be examined systematically and as conflicts evolve over time. They then apply that framework to the six case studies to show its usefulness in better understanding conflicts individually and in comparison.While previous research on civil wars has tended to focus on causes and outcomes, Conflict Dynamics takes a more comprehensive approach to understanding conflict behavior. The shifting nature of relative group capacity (measured in many different ways), coupled with dynamic group goals, determines the tactical decisions of civil war actors and the paths a rebellion will take. "Emergency Response to Domestic Terrorism" analyzes the emergency response to the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. Terrorism is a complex threat, and the American government is expected to deter or intervene in every attack. For that reason, the government must be better prepared to respond to acts of terror. One critical element is to understand what constitutes an 'effective response'. To answer this key question, the author examined the existing literature and interviewed thirty-one elite participants in the emergency response to the bombing. The result is a unique qualitative case study that analyzes the response efforts undertaken after the bombing to draw conclusions about their relative success or failure. "Emergency Response to Domestic Terrorism" looks at the nature and interrelationship of bureaucratic structures involved in the response, the organizational networking between the response bureaucracy, and the impact of bureaucratic culture on the response. By bringing together the academic and the practical aspects of emergency response, the work will appeal to students, practitioners, and policymakers.
