Divine simplicity is the idea that, as the ultimate principle of the universe, God must be a non-composite unity not made up of parts or diverse attributes. The idea was appropriated by early Christian theologians from non-Christian philosophy and played a pivotal role in the development of Christian thought. Andrew Radde-Gallwitz charts the progress of the idea of divine simplicity from the second through the fourth centuries, with particular attention to Basil of Caesarea and Gregory of Nyssa, two of the most subtle writers on this topic, both instrumental in the construction of the Trinitarian doctrine proclaimed as orthodox at the Council of Constantinople in 381. He demonstrates that divine simplicity was not a philosophical appendage awkwardly attached to the early Christian doctrine of God, but a notion that enabled Christians to articulate the consistency of God as portrayed in their scriptures. Basil and Gregory offered a unique construal of simplicity in responding to their principal doctrinal opponent, Eunomius of Cyzicus. Challenging accepted interpretations of the Cappadocian brothers and the standard account of divine simplicity in recent philosophical literature, Radde-Gallwitz argues that Basil and Gregory's achievement in transforming ideas inherited from the non-Christian philosophy of their time has an ongoing relevance for Christian theological epistemology today.

Gregory of Nyssa is firmly established in today's theological curriculum and is a major figure in the study of late antiquity. Students encounter him in anthologies of primary sources, in surveys of Christian history and perhaps in specialized courses on the doctrine of the Trinity, eschatology, asceticism, or the like. Gregory of Nyssa's Doctrinal Works presents a reading of the works in Gregory's corpus devoted to the dogmatic controversies of his day. Andrew Radde-Gallwitz focuses as much on Gregory the writer as on Gregory the dogmatic theologian. He sets both elements not only within the context of imperial legislation and church councils of Gregory's day, but also within their proper religious context-that is, within the temporal rhythms of ritual and sacramental practice. Gregory himself roots what we call Trinitarian theology within the church's practice of baptism. In his dogmatic treatises, where textbook accounts might lead one to expect much more on the metaphysics of substance or relation, one finds a great deal on baptismal grace; in his sermons, reflecting on the occasion of baptism tends to prompt Trinitarian questions.

With the passage of the Morrill Act in 1862, many states in the Midwest and the West chartered land-grant colleges following the Civil War. Because of both progressive ideologies and economic necessity, these institutions admitted women from their inception and were among the first public institutions to practice coeducation. Although female students did not feel completely accepted by their male peers and professors in the land-grant environment, many of them nonetheless successfully negotiated greater gender inclusion for themselves and their peers. In Bright Epoch, Andrea G. Radke-Moss tells the story of female students' early mixed-gender encounters at four institutions: Iowa Agricultural College, the University of Nebraska, Oregon Agricultural College, and Utah State Agricultural College. Although land-grant institutions have been most commonly associated with domestic science courses for women, Bright Epoch illuminates the diversity of other courses of study available to female students, including the sciences, literature, journalism, business commerce, and law. In a culture where the forces of gender separation constantly battled gender inclusion, women found new opportunities for success and achievement through activities such as literary societies, athletics, military regiments, and women's rights and suffrage activism. Through these venues, women students challenged nineteenth-century gender limitations and created broader definitions of female inclusion and participation in the land-grant environment and in the larger American society.

La qualit fisiologica dei semi viene normalmente valutata mediante test standard di germinazione e vigore. Tuttavia, in lotti con un elevato grado di eterogeneit , questi test possono avere una bassa sensibilit ed necessario ottenere risultati affidabili in un breve periodo di tempo, garantendo un rapido processo decisionale in relazione alla qualit fisiologica dei semi. In quest'ottica, lo scopo di questo studio stato quello di separare lotti di semi di soia, fagiolo e mais in termini di vigore, utilizzando l'attivit respiratoria. A tal fine, tre lotti di semi di queste colture sono stati sottoposti a test standard di vitalit e vigore, come la germinazione, il conteggio della prima germinazione, l'indice di velocit di germinazione, la conducibilit elettrica, l'emergere delle piantine e l'indice di velocit di emergere in serra, la lunghezza e la massa secca della parte aerea e delle radici delle piantine dai test di germinazione e di emergere delle piantine e l'attivit respiratoria.

La qualit physiologique des semences est normalement valu e par des tests standards de germination et de vigueur. Cependant, dans les lots pr sentant une forte h t rog n it , ces tests peuvent tre peu sensibles et il est n cessaire d'obtenir des r sultats fiables dans un court laps de temps, permettant une prise de d cision rapide concernant la qualit physiologique des semences. Dans cette optique, l'objectif de cette tude tait de s parer des lots de graines de soja, de haricots et de ma s en termes de vigueur, l'aide de l'activit respiratoire. Pour ce faire, trois lots de semences de ces cultures ont t soumis des tests standards de viabilit et de vigueur, tels que la germination, le nombre de premi res germinations, l'indice de vitesse de germination, la conductivit lectrique, la lev e des semis et l'indice de vitesse de lev e en serre, la longueur et la masse s che de la partie a rienne et des racines des semis issus des tests de germination et de lev e des semis, et l'activit respiratoire.

The physiological quality of seeds is normally assessed by standard germination and vigor tests. However, in batches with a high degree of heterogeneity, these tests can have low sensitivity, and it is necessary to obtain reliable results in a short period of time, ensuring rapid decision-making in relation to the physiological quality of seeds. With this in mind, the aim of this study was to separate batches of soybean, bean and corn seeds in terms of vigor, using respiratory activity. To this end, three batches of seeds from these crops were subjected to standard viability and vigor tests, such as germination, first germination count, germination speed index, electrical conductivity, seedling emergence and emergence speed index in the greenhouse, length and dry mass of the aerial part and roots of the seedlings from the germination and seedling emergence tests and respiratory activity.
