Cocktail Hour Meets...A Pandemic

Cocktail Hour Meets...A Pandemic

Covid-19 turned the world upside down in a matter of weeks. Shelter-in-place, quaranting, staying-at-home left many of us not even knowing what day of the week it was. We needed something to add structure to the shapeless hours, a daily reminder that there is always a reason to celebrate. Why not welcome the evenings with Cocktail Hour? Borne from a Facebook challenge to concoct a different cocktail each day, Jeremy Cooper and Andy Klausner turned the early 50 days of their lockdown into this light-hearted journal. "Cocktail Hour Meets...a Pandemic" offers a back-of-the-napkin account of 50 cocktail recipes, some new and some edited classics (and some definitely better than others), alongside stories about their love of all things Drink, Eat, Travel, and Entertainment. (There is a lot of tequila...plus a spoiled cat.) While frequent get-togethers hosted in pre-Covid times were replaced with Zoom cocktail hours, and travel came from reminiscince, old photo albums and attempts to re-create some of the global cocktail and dining adventures that they have enjoyed since 1997, this work re-counts their journey.Andy and Jeremy are not mixologists, nor do they aspire to be. They prefer that this book - as well as their perfectly imperfect cocktails and photos - reflect the reality of the situation. Some days kind of sucked. Some days brought true joy. Many drinks brought back fond memories of once-in-a-lifetime adventures. But one thing was always certain: cocktail hour gave a reason to raise a glass during those seemingly endless days.If you buy the book (and you really should buy the book), you will laugh a bit and hopefully take away a recipe or two that you can make your own. Andy and Jeremy will even share food recipes upon request Please note: a portion of all sales will be donated to CORE-a national non-profit that provides financial relief to food and beverage industry employees with children impacted by a health crisis, death or natural disaster. Cocktail Hour Meets ... L'APERO is the third in a series of back-of-the-napkin lifestyle books resulting from quarantining at home during Covid-19. Little did anyone know when authors Jeremy Cooper and Andy Klausner published Cocktail Hour Meets ... A PANDEMIC in July of 2020 and Cocktail Hour Meets ... A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION in November 2020, that the pandemic would continue well into the Spring of 2021. We may not always know what day it is, but we do know there is always cocktail hour And along with cocktail hour, this book highlights the French tradition of L'APERO - an early evening get together which features wine (or cocktails), appetizers and, when not isolated at home, time spent with friends. The inspiration for this book comes from Jeremy and Andy reminiscing during the quarantine about past travels that seem so distant, and takes them back to their true loves - food, travel and wine. Cocktail Hour Meets ... L'APERO guides readers through each of the wine regions of France, and includes stories of Jeremy and Andy's past travels, 25 L'APEROs, each highlighting a French wine (and one brandy), and a recipe which pairs well with each beverage. A portion of all sales will be donated to World Central Kitchen - a national nonprofit founded by Chef Jos Andr s and his wife Patricia that uses "the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies through times of crises and beyond.".

Social work practice with children, young people and families is complex, highly skilled - and fascinating. Writing about social work increasingly acknowledges the complexities and uncertainties of practice but rarely features the voice of the social worker themselves. This book takes a different approach, that of Critical Best Practice: a constructive, realistic and strengths-based approach that takes as its starting point the telling and analysing of in depth stories about 'live' practice. The reader is encouraged to join the social work practitioner or manager as they engage with the everyday dilemmas and uncertainties of 21st century practice. Ten narratives, based round the themes of relationships, risk, and negotiation & problem solving provide varied opportunities for critical reflection and learning about social work in different contexts. Insights are offered into social work with children, from young babies to adolescents, and families with differing needs in different parts of the UK: England, Scotland and Wales.

Coton Park, Rugby, Warwickshire: A Middle Iron Age Settlement with Copper Alloy Casting
A total area of 3.1ha, taking in much of a settlement largely of the earlier Middle Iron Age (c.450 to c.150BC), was excavated in 1998 in advance of development. Two small pit groups, radiocarbon dated to the Middle Bronze Age, produced a bronze dagger and a small pottery assemblage. The Iron Age settlement comprised several groups of roundhouse ring ditches and associated small enclosures forming an open settlement set alongside a linear boundary ditch. Its origin lay in the 5th century BC with a single small roundhouse group. Through the 4th and 3rd centuries BC the settlement expanded with the original structures replaced by a principal roundhouse group accompanied by at least a further two groups of roundhouses and enclosures and minor outlying structures. A group of structures and enclosures set apart from the main domestic area was the focus for copper alloy casting, producing an assemblage of crucibles and fragments from investment moulds for the production of horse fittings, as well as bone, antler and horn working debris. The site also produced good assemblages of pottery and animal bone, an assemblage of saddle querns and a potin coin. The settlement had been abandoned by the middle of the 2nd century BC, although the main boundary ditch survived at least as an earthwork. By the early 1st century AD a series of ditched enclosures were created to the north of the boundary ditch, perhaps a small ladder settlement, which fell out of use soon after the Roman conquest. One enclosure contained two small roundhouses and other curvilinear gullies may have formed animal pens in the corners of two enclosures. This final phase is dated by some Late Iron Age pottery, an Iron Age and a Roman rotary quern, and a small quantity of Roman roof tile. The discussion considers the physical, social and economic structure of the settlement. The distribution of finds around the ring ditches is examined as well as the size of enclosed roundhouses. There is an overview of the Iron Age roundhouse in the Midlands, using well preserved sites as exemplars for the range of evidence that can survive. A typology and chronology for Iron Age pottery is provided, and the date of introduction of the rotary quern is discussed, and the consequent effect on the size of storage jars is examined. Middle Bronze Age pits and a small cremation cemetery, and Late Iron Age to early Roman settlement on the site of the nearby deserted medieval village of Coton are also described. With contributions by Trevor Anderson, Paul Blinkhorn, Pat Chapman, Steve Critchley, Karen Deighton, Tora Hylton, Dennis Jackson, Ivan Mack, Anthony Maull, Gerry McDonnell, Matthew Ponting and Jane Timby. Illustrations by Andy Chapman, Pat Walsh and Mark Roughley.
