En del passar just dig.

Röjer i husen, städar, målar, reparerar, skaffar djur. Ester Blenda Nordströms bok Patron Ann-Mari – Rackarungen blir bonde. Efterord Ylva Floreman. ISBN 978-91-7742-549-6. Högkvalitetspapper, sydda ark, mjuka pärmar med flikar. 144 sidor.
Resan till Amerika 1952 : Brevväxling 11/1–20/12 1952 Anders och Ann-Mari Andréasson, Kärrtorp
Min pappa Anders Bergman, f. Long Island i New York.

The economics profession is belatedly confronting glaring gender inequality. Women are systematically underrepresented throughout the discipline, and those who do embark on careers in economics find themselves undermined in any number of ways. Women in the field report pervasive biases and barriers that hinder full and equal participation—and these obstacles take an even greater toll on women of color. How did economics become such a boys’ club, and what lessons does this history hold for attempts to achieve greater equality?Gender and the Dismal Science is a groundbreaking account of the role of women during the formative years of American economics, from the late nineteenth century into the postwar period. Blending rich historical detail with extensive empirical data, Ann Mari May examines the structural and institutional factors that excluded women, from graduate education to academic publishing to university hiring practices. Drawing on material from the archives of the American Economic Association along with novel data sets, she details the vicissitudes of women in economics, including their success in writing monographs and placing journal articles, their limitations in obtaining academic positions, their marginalization in professional associations, and other hurdles that the professionalization of the discipline placed in their path. May emphasizes the formation of a hierarchical culture of status seeking that stymied women’s participation and shaped what counts as knowledge in the field to the advantage of men. Revealing the historical roots of the homogeneity of economics, this book sheds new light on why biases against women persist today.

The Politics of Poverty in Contemporary Russia
This book provides an overview of poverty and well-being in Russia. Increasing poverty rates during the 1990s were followed by greater attention to social policies in the 2000s and increased efforts to engage people in socially oriented NGOs and ‘encourage’ them to contribute to the fulfillment of social aims. What impact did these developments have on the prevalence of poverty in contemporary Russian society?Tracing continuities from the Soviet system alongside recent developments such as the falling price of oil, economic sanctions, and changes in directions of social policy, this book explores the impact of poverty, inequality and social programmes. The author examines the agency of people living in poverty and those engaged in social policy, using official statistics, survey data and interviews from four Russian regions to explain the reasons and consequences of poverty and people’s attempts to get out of it. The approach is based on institutional theory, complemented by Amartya Sen’s capability approach highlighting the importance of agency and an institutional framework as a means for change. A timely book that will be of interest to students of contemporary Russian politics as well as those engaged in social policy issues. The Open Access version of this book, available at http://www.taylorfrancis.com, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

A Blend of Contradictions

Contradiction forms the basis of all social phenomena. Anyone who has read Georg Simmel will perceive his fascination with the essential complexity that characterizes human interaction. Look for contradiction, he seems to say, and you will find something of vital importance. Ann-Mari Sellerberg applies central themes from Simmel - trust, subordination under principle, adventure, and the position of the poor - and applies them to contemporary phenomena. In so doing, she both illuminates Simmel and reveals how empirical analysis can be extended with insights from his work.Sellerberg describes how Simmel breaks down social phenomena into isolated categories, and within these discerns pairs, or opposites, that work to both hinder and inhibit as well as reinforce and strengthen each other. She describes Simmers method as "methodological interactionism," or a kind of dialectical order, and illustrates how his opposed forces, or pairs, affect each other in three ways. First, she examines how conflicts characterize social phenomena, dealing with such matters as modem motherhood, women in typical women's occupations, trust, and how geriatric patients express their individualism in patient groups. Second, she shows how opposing tendencies become an impetus to continuous change. And third, she shows how it is that interactions of forces in contradiction tend to the ironic and paradoxical.Simmel has been criticized for over-attention to small-scale social phenomena. As Sellerberg shows, these phenomena may seem insignificant, but they have to do with interactions common to virtually all human beings - among them trust, intimacy, and marginality - that have enormous consequence in human life and society. Simmel reminds us that analysis can and should always be taken one step further. Written in nontechnical language, this book will be of interest to scholars and professionals in a broad range of behavioral sciences. The examples that illustrate it will make the book of particular interest to those concerned with health care, marketing, and consumer behavior, as well as those working in the caring professions.

Women's Roles and Agency in Russian Society Before and During the War in Ukraine
Women's Roles and Agency in Russian Society Before and During the War in Ukraine tracks Russian societal development and transformation as reflected in women’s experiences, views, and agency. This book explores women's roles in various sectors of Russian society, including the labor market in the 1990s, entrepreneurship, politics, the social sector, and their engagement in civil society. The author employs interviews describing the experiences, views, and agency of Russian women in leading positions in the social services, NGOs, and elsewhere that serve to help vulnerable women. Their stories make visible how women's agency has changed in the face of growing authoritarianism in the region. Their work and position have become more perilous in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine War, and the increased attempts by authorities to cover up and silence social unrest.

Environmental Problems in the Shortage Economy is one of the first books to analyse environmental disruption under the Soviet economic system. Using original Soviet data the author shows that considerable damage has been done to the environment and that measures which were intended to protect it have been largely ineffective.A detailed account of environmental problems in the Soviet economy is followed by discussion of two specific problems: the ineffectiveness of measures to protect the environment and the general mismanagement of natural resource extraction. In order to explain these problems, a framework is adopted which views the former Soviet Union as a shortage economy with environmental problems as part of its general functioning. Further insight into the impact of the shortage economy on the management of natural resources is provided by a case study on the use of forestry resources. The book also includes an account of Soviet academic work in the field of environmental economics. This rigorous and authoritative assessment of the implications of Soviet environmental policy will be welcomed by environmental economists and political scientists concerned with the wider legacy of the Soviet Union and its economic policy.

Having survived the Luftwaffe bombing their train to Calais, arrival in Britain was short-lived. As her stepfather was on Hitler's deathlist, evacuation to America, across the U-Boat infested Atlantic was the next plan. Would Ann-Mari ever return home?
