During her visit, her grandfather, Len Hudson, once a prospector for gold in the Mogollon Mountains, bequeathed an adventure for Alex to find his buried treasure in the rugged Gila Wilderness. Someone was sabotaging her entourage as they traveled on horseback with pack mules into the rocky mountains. Alexs boyfriend was in a coma from an unusual accident. One of her sorority sisters broke her left leg in a sinister incident, and two of her friends were horrendously mutilated as they tried to help Alex redeem her grandfathers hidden buried treasure.Who followed Alexandria and her consortium into the Gila Wilderness? And why was he tormenting them? How would they return to the Bush equestrian ranch while on horseback and dragging a travois carrying a coma patient?

Ruby Carmichael, a skinny thirteen-year-old, finds her stepfather leaning over her mother's deceased body. Protruding from Eleanor's chest was a pair of scissors plunged deep in her chest. Eleanor had been Jack Parade's ex-wife for more than five years. ... Jack turned and stared at Ruby, who was standing at the kitchen entrance. Ruby stared in disbelief. Her stepdad was leaning over her mother, and her mother was dead on the floor. Eleanor's face was white with fear, and her eyes were bulging out. Jack reached around Eleanor's body to check for a pulse. She was dead. She died after the one scream that was heard by Ruby, Jack, the two men that ran through the laundry room to the rear exit, and the two men who climbed through Eleanor's bedroom window. Ruby was numb with fear. ... ... "Ruby, what are you doing here?" ... ... "Dad, you were touching the scissors in Mom's chest. I saw you. Why?"... Jack Parade marries Maria Louisa Garcia-Stewart and becomes the stepfather of her twin eleven-year-old boys. Ruby instantly becomes a sister, daughter, granddaughter and niece. This is all overwhelming to a young, private girl who suffers with emotional problems, as well as, being eccentric with bouts of depression. She is considered a suspect in her mother's murder. Ruby's life is in danger along with her new family. Ruby has a secret that even Ruby doesn't know about. Her biological father, Lester Carmichael, who was just released from prison after a ten year sentence, wants Ruby. He wants her dead or alive. Eleanor's boyfriend, Boris also wants Ruby, but he wants Ruby alive.
Person-Centered Diagnosis and Treatment in Mental Health

Person-Centered Diagnosis and Treatment in Mental Health

Clients with mental health conditions are often diagnosed and treated using a strictly medical model of diagnosis, with little input from the client themselves. This reference manual takes a person-centered, holistic approach to diagnosis and treatment, seeing the client as the unrecognized expert on their condition and encouraging their collaboration. This qualitative approach aims to find meaning in the experiences of the client, exploring the reasons behind their feelings and behaviour and taking the whole person into account. Designed to complement DSM assessments, the manual covers several different conditions including ADHD, depression, bulimia, and OCD, as well as mental health 'patterns' such as abuse, bullying, violence and loss. In each case, the client is involved in the diagnosis and treatment plan. The book features extended case studies, sample questions and treatment plans throughout. This will be an essential reference book for all those involved in mental health diagnosis and treatment, including psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health counselors, clinical social workers, school counselors and therapists.

Between 1914 and 1922, millions of Europeans left their homes as a result of war, postwar settlements, and revolution. After 1918, the immense movement of people across Germany's eastern border posed a sharp challenge to the new Weimar Republic. Ethnic Germans flooded over the border from the new Polish state, Russian émigrés poured into the German capital, and East European Jews sought protection in Germany from the upheaval in their homelands. Nor was the movement in one direction only: German Freikorps sought to found a soldiers' colony in Latvia, and a group of German socialists planned to settle in a Soviet factory town. In The Impossible Border, Annemarie H. Sammartino explores these waves of migration and their consequences for Germany. Migration became a flashpoint for such controversies as the relative importance of ethnic and cultural belonging, the interaction of nationalism and political ideologies, and whether or not Germany could serve as a place of refuge for those seeking asylum. Sammartino shows the significance of migration for understanding the difficulties confronting the Weimar Republic and the growing appeal of political extremism. Sammartino demonstrates that the moderation of the state in confronting migration was not merely by default, but also by design. However, the ability of a republican nation-state to control its borders became a barometer for its overall success or failure. Meanwhile, debates about migration were a forum for political extremists to develop increasingly radical understandings of the relationship between the state, its citizens, and its frontiers. The widespread conviction that the democratic republic could not control its "impossible" Eastern borders fostered the ideologies of those on the radical right who sought to resolve the issue by force and for all time.

In Freedomland, Annemarie H. Sammartino tells Co-op City's story from the perspectives of those who built it and of the ordinary people who made their homes in this monument to imperfect liberal ideals of economic and social justice. Located on the grounds of the former Freedomland amusement park on the northeastern edge of the Bronx, Co-op City's 35 towers and 236 townhouses have been home to hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and is an icon visible to all traveling on the east coast corridor. In 1965, Co-op City was planned as the largest middle-class housing development in the United States. It was intended as a solution to the problem of affordable housing in America's largest city. While Co-op City first appeared to be a huge success story for integrated, middle-class housing, tensions would lead its residents to organize the largest rent strike in American history. In 1975, a coalition of shareholders took on New York State and, against all odds, secured resident control. Much to the dismay of many denizens of the complex, even this achievement did not halt either rising costs or white flight. Nevertheless, after the challenges of the 1970s and 1980s, the cooperative achieved a hard-won stability as the twentieth century came to a close. Freedomland chronicles the tumultuous first quarter century of Co-op City's existence. Sammartino's narrative connects planning, economic, and political history and the history of race in America. The result is a new perspective on twentieth-century New York City.

A true phonetic reader. These books will help you make skilled independent readers from beginning students and to help students with learning disabilities recover the skills that escaped them on their forst attempts at learning. Professor Bloomer believes that every child in a democracy must be taught to read. He studied the science of learning to develop the most effective reading program possible. Professor Bloomer's method teaches children to build each new word he contacts without help and allows the child to grow and expand words from their letter/sounds. Skill with Phonetics allows a child to read any new word and children can enjoy expanding their own reading vocabulary. Teachers who use Professors No-Nonsense Reading Program find their students failure to learn to read at the Basic level drops from the customary 35 to 50 percent down to 3 to 8 percent.

In the hustle and bustle of modern life the word "solitude" may provoke a sigh of relief or the anxiety of loneliness. Dr. Kidder has found that a significant dimension of our spiritual lives is most deeply encountered in solitude. Married, single, or recently divorced -- all of us can find opportunities for solitude that offer a unique opportunity for personal growth and encounters with God. Themes include: romantic allure as a substitute for spirituality; the loner syndrome; cultural conditioning; coupling, co-habitation, and community; fear of loneliness; overachieving; the search for intimacy; the search for sexual fulfillment; Biblical roots; Jesus, the solitary person; Mary and the Annunciation; Mary Magdalene in the Gospels, the Gospel of Thomas, and the DaVinci Code; Augustine, Luther, and Calvin; evangelicalism; prayer, song, drama; spiritual direction; meditation; tending to the body; vows and covenants of temporary/long-term abstinence; and coping with opposition.

Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion in Caribbean Organisations and Society

This book focuses on equality, inclusion, and discrimination within the English-speaking Caribbean region, specifically as it relates to employment, education, society, and the law. Though anti-discrimination laws have recently been enacted in the Caribbean, this, in and of itself, neither translates to societal changes nor changes within the organisational context. The authors examine racial diversity in public sector organisations in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, gender diversity in organisations across the Caribbean region, sexual orientation and its impact on employment, disability and access within organisations, and equality and inclusion within Caribbean institutions of higher education. Further, the book explores the region’s equality laws and compares them with legislation from selected developed countries. This interdisciplinary text provides researchers in HRM, organisational behavior, sociology, and public policy with an overview of the types of discrimination prevalent within the Caribbean as well as the varied institutional frameworks in place that encourage equality.

Bokens författare:Ann-Marie Hansson, fil.dr, arkeolog, arkeobotaniker. Huvudredaktör. Ann-Marie Robertsson, docent, kvartärgeolog, pollenexpert. Björn Lindeke, professor em., läkemedelskemi, Apotekarsocieteten. Bo Ohlson, apotekare, farmacihistoriker, Apotekarsocieteten. Ingrid Dyhlén-Täckman, arkeolog, antikvarie, Stockholms stadsmuseum. James H. Dickson, professor em., Glasgow, UK, arkeobotanist, mosspecialist. Jens Heimdahl, fil.dr, kvartärgeolog, arkeobotaniker. Sven Karlsson, fil.lic., kvartärgeolog, pollenexpert. Uaininn O Meadhra, fil.dr, arkeolog, konsthistoriker.
