Burks modifiziert die von Frege und Russell eingef hrte Beschreibungstheorie durch seinen Versuch, eine eigene Theorie ber den Begriff des Eigennamens der gew hnlichen Rede zu entwickeln. Darin behauptet er, da man allein mit beschreibenden Kennzeichnungen keinen Gegenstand ausreichend identifizieren k nne. Auch die von Searle und Wittgenstein gemachten Vorschl ge der B ndeltheorie, da die Bedeutung eines Eigennamens in einem B ndel von Kennzeichnungen bestehe, lehnt er ab. Immerhin, so Burks, sei es m glich, da es zwei identische Gegenst nde gibt, die exakt dieselben Eigenschaften aufweisen. Auch deiktische Ausdr cke allein reichen nicht aus, da der gemeinte Gegenstand ohne zus tzliche Beschreibung nicht eindeutig bezeichnet werden kann.
