Prominent in both Judaism and Christianity, Isaiah is a book about redemption. Consisting of two parts, the first of which being the subject of this commentary, Isaiah's overall message tells of God s redemptive plan for all history, not just that of Israel. It is a book that strikes heavily on the thematic notes of God s holiness, his saving acts, his sovereignty, and his lordship over all nations.Exploring this formidable prophetic book in its canonical entirety is just one of several outstanding features of this commentary. As with other NBBCs this volume probes the issues of authorship, historical background, theology, and application. The author, Barry L. Ross, has continued the high standard of scholarship present in all New Beacon Bible Commentaries.Engaging, perceptive, and academically thorough, the New Beacon Bible Commentary will expand your understanding and deepen your appreciation of the meaning and message of each book of the Bible.Written from the Wesleyan theological perspective, this indispensable commentary provides pastors, professional scholars, teachers, and Bible students with a critical, relevant, and inspiring interpretation of the Word of God in the 21st century.

The book of Daniel is a colorful collage of fascinating stories and visions. From a magnificent statue to a feisty, horn-regenerating goat, readers encounter a cavalcade of fantastic images. Added to these amazing sights are the harrowing confrontations between God's faithful servants and presumptuous kings. Grasping the meaning of all this is a weighty task. This volume of the Reading and Interpreting the Bible Series aptly meets this challenge, providing readers with the tools to interpret the message of Daniel and apply it to daily life. Using charts, word studies, and deep dives into ancient Middle Eastern culture, Old Testament scholar Barry Ross provides readers with the theological keys to this marvelous book. Reading the Bible with understanding is challenging. Without sound guidance, making sense of the different literary types, settings, and cultures found in the Scriptures can be overwhelming. The Reading and Interpreting the Bible Series opens the door to a proper and accessible method of biblical interpretation. Each volume concentrates on a specific literary type found in the Bible, highlighting its features and function. Social, political, and religious settings are examined, and a critical analysis of the biblical text brings to light its message and relevance for today. Readers will find in these volumes numerous illustrations of how to interpret specific texts, which can be used as a pattern for individual or group Bible studies.

Career Vectors Basic Version is a new comprehensive, structured, data-gathering process to provide an individual with detailed in-depth information about themselves and possible occupational options. You can use this information in three ways: 1) To gain insight into your career identity, vocational interests, and work-related strengths and development needs 2) To identify meaningful occupational possibilities to explore 3) To develop and enhance your career potential It should be noted that the Career Vectors System is not for general use--- it was designed specifically to meet the needs of motivated and professionally-oriented adults and advanced students. The model for the Career Vectors System is based on the pioneering work of Dr. John Holland's theory of career choice and the role of personality and person- environment fit. The CVS was also influenced by Dr. Rodney Lowman's Inter-domain Theory of Career Assessment. This theory places an importance on the need to integrate the three domains of interests, skills and abilities, and personality characteristics for a comprehensive career assessment. The Career Vectors System is, to our knowledge, one of few if any instruments that integrates these three dimensions in depth in one instrument. It also allows for a development process where people identify their strengths and development needs.

Barry Lyndon

Barry Lyndon

William Makepeace Thackeray

Oxford University Press
2008
nidottu
Set in the second half of the eighteenth century, Barry Lyndon is the fictional autobiography of an adventurer and rogue whom the reader is led to distrust from the very beginning. Born into the petty Irish gentry, and outmanoeuvred in his first love-affair, a ruined Barry joins the British army. After service in Germany he deserts and, after a brief spell as a spy, pursues the career of a gambler in the dissolute clubs and courts of Europe. In a determined effort to enter fashionable society he marries a titled heiress but finds he has met his match. First published in 1844, Barry Lyndon is Thackeray's earliest substantial novel and in some ways his most original, reflecting his views of the true art of fiction: to represent a subject, however unpleasant, with accuracy and wit, and not to moralize. The text is that of George Sainsbury's 1908 Oxford edition which restores passages cut when the novel was revised in 1856. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

'Is he dead' asked the first head of Barry Byclops apprentice detective Joe Two-Heads and when the second one added her pennyworth Barry asked himself why Joe always asked the obvious question and when he couldn't think of a suitable answer, he somehow knew that his day would probably only get worse because they were looking at what was left of their latest client but what intrigued Barry the most was the still smouldering pungent indentation in the large palm of the middle hand of Grumpy Troglodyte and when he recognised what it was he wondered how Grumpy managed to get his hands on something he'd only seen picture-graphs of and that was The Golden Razor Dragon amulet.

Barry Gealt, Embracing Nature

Perry Rachel Berenson

Indiana University Press
2012
sidottu
Barry Gealt's nature paintings, with their thick layers of pigment and saturated colors, evoke the drama of place—purple waves splashing over shell-pink sands, mossy rocks protruding among twisting water surfaces, the windless mists of Indiana mornings, and the hush and rustle of winter woods. This beautiful retrospective catalog presents forty of Gealt's works, mostly large oil-on-panel paintings, from 1985 through 2012. Rachel Berenson Perry traces Gealt's art-making life from his early experiments with figurative painting through the evolution of his abstract, forceful, almost sculptural landscape style. Perry also discusses Gealt's long career as a dedicated teacher and mentor to his many students in the painting program at Indiana University from 1969 until his retirement in 2007.
