Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles An Alphabettery
An Alphabettery of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles gathers together, from all fifteen of the books in the series, the facts, details, story lines, genealogies of her characters, vampiric subjects, geographical influences, and cultural and individual histories, all of which Rice painstakingly researched and invented during her 40-year career-to date-through which she has enchanted and transported us. Here are concise, detailed biographies of every character, no matter how central or minor to the cosmology. Revealed are the intricacies and interconnectedness of characters and subjects throughout. We see how Akasha (Queen of Egypt and the first vampire) is connected to Mekare (the inheritor of the title of the Queen of the Damned), etc., and how these characters connect back to the darkest rebel outlaw of them all, Lestat de Lioncourta And we see, as well, the ways in which Rice's vampires have evolved from warring civilizations to isolated covens to a unified race of blood drinkers led by their hero-wanderer and sole monarch, Prince Lestat. For devoted and first-time Anne Rice readers alike, An Alphabettery of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles will be the holy grail of lore and revelation for those who have been, and continue to be, mesmerized by the worlds within worlds of these beloved tales of the undead.

The construction and deconstruction of Becket's reputation is central to this provocative new study. The cult of Becket has remained enduring: it was the centerpiece of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales; and in our own time it has carried powerful enough resonance to generate interpretations from T.S. Eliot, Jean Anouilh, and indeed Hollywood. This book investigates whether the popular conception of Becket through the ages is a result of valid assessments of the man and his cause, or a product of a carefully constructed myth, and how far can one correct for the bias and reach the truth.

Becket's life was lived on a European stage, his cause was conducted in a European setting, and the cult of the new martyr spread with extraordinary rapidity to the furthest reaches of Latin Christendom before the end of the twelfth century. The fifteen studies collected here reflect not only the global reach of the subject but the diverse expertise of their author, whose edition and translation of the Correspondence of Archbishop Thomas Becket (2000) and acclaimed biography (Thomas Becket, 2004) have established her place in Becket studies. Based on the critical examination of manuscripts and texts, this collection focuses first on the papal curia and Becket's household in exile. The following studies deal with Becket's letters and their authorship, the coronation of the young King Henry (1170), and Henry II's reconciliation at Avranches (1172). The final part traces the explosion of Becket's cult, the transmission of hagiographical and liturgical texts to France, Germany, and Portugal, and the role of diverse agencies of dissemination: Henry II's daughters, for example, in Saxony, Castile, and Sicily, and the Cistercian and Augustinian orders whose networks of houses embraced the whole of Europe.

The Bucket List is an introspective expedition into growing up in the Sunshine State of Queensland, Australia. Deborah Tanzer's recollections are offered through verse, every word delicately chosen to capture the spirit of loved ones, seasons, landscape and identities. Complementing the artistic flow of the author are compelling and enticing artworks by her father. The artworks are part of a private and commissioned collection by Barry Tanzer. There are stories attached to each work that express places, the political, family and a lifetime of experiences. The author's mother, Carol Tanzer, also inspired her to paint as a child. A childhood of watching the artistic sides of both parents has left the author with visual art skills and a fondness for writing.
The influence of absurdist theatre on in-yer-face theatre in the 1990's as exemplified by Beckett's Endgame and Ravenhill's Shopping and F***ing
Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,3, Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, language: English, abstract: "In-Yer-Face Theatre is to the 1990s what absurdism was to the 1950s" In the following paper, I'd like to investigate whether this statement is true or if both movements should be seen as two different theatre forms without any connection. As a basis of my investigations serves Agnes M. Kitzler's study about the influence of Absurdist Theatre on Contemporary In-Yer-Face Theatre (Kitzler, 2011) as well as Aleks Sierz' book on In-Yer-Face-Theatre (Sierz, 2001) and Martin Esslin's book on the Theatre of the Absurd (Esslin, 2001). I will mostly try to give a general overview about similarities and differences between absurdism and In-Yer-Face Theatre before I give distinct examples of Samuel Beckett's play Endgame and Mark Ravenhill's Shopping and F***ing and finally come to a conclusion if In-Yer-Face Theatre is to the 1990s what absurdism was to the 1950s or not. I firmly believe that as this paper is limited to seven until eight pages it is more important to give a general overview which is more effective to answer the question whether both movements show similarities or not. However, I think it is important to undertake several aspects a closer examination in a broader study, which could be, for example, a bachelor thesis.

One can only admire the sweep of Anne Becker's new collection of poems, Human Animal. The reader is immediately caught in its interminglings: of gods and world; of world and earth; of people, and of people with earth and animals. Examples abound. In "Forces of Nature," Becker states, "Questions like: do angels have wings, these are the kinds of things / we demand answers to." In "Forces of Nature II," she tells us, "We, and the earth we walk on / are never at rest. . . ." In "Wolf Woman," she evokes someone "halfway, between animal and human animal. . . ." Becker does not shy away from encounters with the universe that brought forth the human animal. The book is filled with surprises and reversals. In "Getting Wisdom: The Denial," a mother imagines a Chinese basket to be a waste basket. Yet, her four-year-old son imagines the exact opposite, "This is a saving basket." So, the basket is filled with "bits of paper . . . / scribbled notes, pretend money, twigs, / broken feathers, single beads,"--all to be saved. The ultimate reversal is that Becker shows no reluctance to exemplify wisdom, straying from current fashion. In the final section, "Still, the Good Body," she casts a cold--and at the same time a hot--eye on love, offering a candid image: the body leads the way to love, the human animals' only resting place. See poems like "The Old Loving" and the final poem, "Heartwork II," which ends where all acts of love end, "Enough effort--we can rest here. / Enough happiness for one day."Anne Becker's Human Animal leaves the reader with the feeling, Yes, yes, it is this way Along with Yes, yes . . ., we feel a wonder at the mystery that it is in fact this way. And we discover that all of life for human animals is a series of astonishing reversals, birth to death. This is a serious book by a serious author.
