Too often interfaith dialogue is generic and unfocused. Often it involves 'liberals' from each tradition coming together to criticize the 'conservatives' in their own traditions. This book provides a model for interfaith dialogue that challenges very directly the 'dialogue industry'. This book involves a Christian theologian in deep conversation with a Muslim theologian. Bediuzzaman Said Nursi (1877-1960) was born at the end of the Ottoman Empire and lived through the emergence of an aggressive secular state. He had to think through, in remarkably creative ways, the challenge of faith within a secular environment, the relationship of faith and politics, and the implications and challenge of diversity and difference. His entire project is captured in his magnum opus 'The Risale-i Nur'. In the first eight chapters of this book, we engage closely with the thought of Nursi and tease out insights that Christians can learn from and accommodate. Having established the method, the second section of the book examines the precise implications for the interfaith movement. The problem with the interfaith movement is that it is an act of western cultural imperialism - they are taking the individualist assumptions of modern America and imposing them on the conversation. The problems with John Hick's and Leonard Swidler's approach are exposed. Moving out from Islam, the book then demonstrates how the model of interfaith changes when Christians are in conversation with Hinduism in India. A new set of Dialogue Ten Commandments are suggested. The book concludes with an appeal for a commitment to include and reach the 'conservatives' in the major religious traditions.

The topics in this book emerged as a result of brainstorming with fellow academics in the summer of 2013. We have discussed ways to address the needs of people, especially youth, who face daily doubts thrown in their faces in modern society. Issues such as the existence of God, the reality of resurrection and the need for worship as well as common social behavioral problems such as greed, backbiting and racism are explained from the perspective of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi.The aim of this book is to present a carefully chosen, digestible selection from Nursi s fourteen volume, 6000-page the Risale-i Nur Collection to beginners. I hope this book is going to be the very first step into the fascinating writings of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi for many first-time readers."

Belief is knowledge and a manifestation of being, and convictions underlying unbelief are ignorance and absence of judgement.

You should pursue Gods good pleasure in your actions. If He is pleased with you, even if the whole world is displeased, it is of no consequence. If He approves, it has no effect even if all others reject your ideas or actions. When He is pleased and approves, even if you do not seek the approval of others, should He will it to be so and His Wisdom requires it, He will make other others accept it and be pleased with you. For this reason, it is absolutely necessary to aim at God Almightys good pleasure in the service of the Quran and belief.

If the thing which naturalists call nature has an external reality, it can, at the very most, be a work of art, not an artist; it can be a design, not a designer; a set of decrees, not an issuer of decrees; a set of the lawgiver; a creation and operation of the universe, not a lawgiver; a created veil before Gods Dignity, not a creator; something originated according to Gods way of acting, not an originator; only a law, not an independent, conscious power or a powerful one; and a set of lines to inscribe on, not a source or origin or an author.

It is the realm where we will meet with, foremost, Gods Beloved, upon him be peace and blessings, and with all our friends.
