Britt-Marie (63) er ikke passiv aggressiv. Det er bare det at skitt og riper og bestikk som ikke ligger på riktig sted i skuffen får henne til å skrike inni seg. Hun har akkurat forlatt ektemannen gjennom 40 år og gått ut av rollen som husmor og inn i rollen som arbeidssøkende. Den eneste jobben hun kan få befinner seg i Borg, et sted som er hardt rammet av finanskrisen, og der alt utenom den ølstinkende pizzasjappa er nedlagt. Britt-Marie hater fotball, men Borg har ikke annet enn fotballen igjen. Dette er absolutt ikke noen god start på et nytt liv. Men når stedets ungdomsklubb så desperat trenger en ny trener at de til slutt er klar for å gi jobben til hvem som helst, da bryr de seg ikke om detaljer som at Britt-Marie absolutt ikke vil ha jobben. Boka oppsummerer kunstnaren Britt Smelvær si verksemd når ho i 2005 fyller 60 år. Ho vaks opp i industribygda Årdal, men etter utdanning innan veving, flytta ho til København. Ho har likevel halde god kontakt med norsk kunstliv - både gjennom mange utsmykkingsoppdrag og ein periode som professor ved Kunsthøgskolen i Bergen. Boka viser at Smelvær sin trong til utforsking og utprøving har vore svært stor. Ho har såleis gitt bidrag til å utvide omgrepet tekstilkunst.
