Once a generation a person comes along who changes the way things are done. That is Jack Gallagher, a larger than life character unafraid to step on the deck of a foundering ship, amidst pounding seas and find a way to oversee her salvage. This is a true story told in Jack's own words of an industry at a time when ships grew to be the Super tankers and enormous containerships of today. When the threats to both life and the environment from the enormous forces of the sea loom over the enormous vessels, which today carry the food and energy and goods which make our world go around, it took a special breed of man and company to meet those challenges. This is Jack's story and the story of so many men and women and companies who invented modern big ship salvage and environmental response. From the pristine waters of Alaska and the Exxon Valdez to the oil sodden Persian Gulf after the first Gulf war to every coastline of America, where big ships came to grief, the creative, fearless hand of Jack Gallagher and the world of brave and ingenious salvors fill these pages.

The Gallaghers know what happy times look like - they lived in a great neighborhood, a comfortable home, they had a happy marriage, and four beautiful children. But when their family was ravaged by depression, they didn't know where to turn, or how to cope. Many lessons were learned the hard way. They have written a book as a family to help others deal with difficult situations: NO MORE SECRETS - A FAMILY SPEAKS ABOUT DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND ATTEMPTED SUICIDE is a compelling narrative of a family shattered by attempted suicide. It tells of a family's struggle to renew John's interest in life.Back when life was grand, before depression came into their lives, the Gallaghers were featured twice on the Oprah Winfrey Show on a segment about RAISING HAPPY KIDS ON A REASONABLE BUDGET. Patricia Gallagher had written a book by that title and Oprah's team came out and filmed a segment at their home in PA.Oprah said, "I don't know how this family does it...but let's go on a visit to their home." It looked so perfect back then, John Gallagher playing ball with his kids in the yard, kids doing their chores, a happy family mealtime. But the Gallagher's lives were shattered just a few years after that appearance.John Gallagher was plunged into despair when his employer threatened layoffs. He couldn't sleep, didn't eat, and became withdrawn. The rest of the family knew something was wrong, but didn't know what to do. Things got worse and worse, and when John attempted suicide, the family was torpedoed emotionally and financially. Desperate to keep up appearances and ashamed of what had happened, they created a web of lies to cover up what really happened to John. Now, nine years later, the Gallagher family has begun to tell their story, and have found healing and peace in the process. They want to help other families in difficult situations; whether it is a parent struggling with depression, addiction, alcoholism or a chronic illness, the ripple effect devastates each member of the family.Dr. Dan Gottlieb, the host of the Public Radio Program" VOICES IN THE FAMILY, said this about the Gallaghers, "I have been doing this show for 22 years and I cannot remember being so touched by a family's story. Your daughters are beautiful inside and out. Thank you for trusting me with your story." The Gallaghers are available to share their story and look forward to hearing from you.Our website: http: //www.speakingaboutdepression.com/John and Patricia Gallagher welcome interviews and speaking engagements. Society for Educational Studies Annual Book Prize winner: 2nd PrizeThis ground-breaking volume draws upon a rich and variegated range of methodologies to understand more fully the practices, policies and resources available in and to religious education in British schools. The descriptions, explanations and analyses undertaken here draw on an innovative combination of policy work, ethnography, Delphi methods, Actor Network Theory, questionnaires, textual analysis as well as theological and philosophical insight. It traces the evolution of religious education in a post-religious age from the creation of policy to the everyday experiences of teachers and students in the classroom. It begins by analysing the way in which policy has evolved since the 1970s with an examination of the social forces that have shaped curriculum development. It goes on to explore the impact and intentions of a diverse group of stakeholders with sometimes competing accounts of the purposes of religious educations. It then examines the manner in which policy is, or is not, enacted in the classroom. Finally, it explores contradictions and confusions, successes and failures, and the ways in which wider public debates enter the classroom. The book also exposes the challenge religious education teachers have in using the language of religion.

"Okay, so what period do you guys have English?" Melissa asked, taking a sip of her drink."First." C.J. replied."Same here "Valerie exclaimed, as she and C.J. gave each other high fives."I have English second period." Melissa frowned. "At least you and I have Math 9 together." Valerie said, trying to make her friend feel better."And let's not forget that the three of us have Geography and P.E. together, too." C.J. smiled, catching on to what Valerie was trying to do."That's true." Melissa smiled. "That's very true."Raising her glass, Valerie said, "I would like to make a toast to a new year and our best friend, C.J.""Cheers." The three girls said in unison, clinking their Star-bucks drinks together." As the girls took sips of their drinks, C.J. could not help but smile. School had not even started yet and she already had a plethora of friends. Much to her excitement, she also had two new and genuine best friends. This truly made C.J. happy more than anything else.
