Die historischen Romane "Die Gesch fte des Herrn Julius Caesar" und "Der K nig David Bericht" von Bertolt Brecht bzw. Stefan Heym weisen signifikante Merkmale auf, die einen Vergleich nicht nur auf Grund derselben Gattungszugeh rigkeit rechtfertigen: Ihre Entstehung f llt in die Zeit der jeweiligen Auseinandersetzung mit einer Diktatur - bei Brecht der Naziherrschaft, bei Heym des Stalinismus und des DDR-Regimes. Hauptprotagonist in beiden ist ein Historiker, der die Geschichte eines gro en" Mannes schreiben will bzw. soll. Doch kleiden diese Geschichtsromane keinesfalls nur aktuelle politische Ereignisse in ein historisches Gewand. So ist Caesar nicht vollst ndig mit Adolf Hitler gleichzusetzen, auch David nicht mit Josef Stalin. Sie m gen hnlichkeiten mit diesen Figuren haben, doch dienen die eher einer besseren Anschaulichkeit, um zu zeigen, dass Diktaturen hnliche Strukturen aufweisen. Das Ziel der beiden Geschichtsromane ist aber ein anderes: ber die satirische Auseinandersetzung mit den Figuren Julius Caesar und K nig David werden Diskurse ber die Art von Geschichtsschreibung er ffnet.Um so ein Thema literarisch darzustellen, griffen sowohl Brecht als auch Heym auf die Gattung Historischer Roman, die einige Schwierigkeiten bereitet, zur ck. Da diese Examensarbeit sich gattungsspezifisch den beiden Werken n hert, steht eine gattungstheoretische Diskussion zum historischen Roman selbst am Anfang der Betrachtung.
