What role does the Internet play in the activities of organizations for social change? This book examines to what extent the democratic potential ascribed to the Internet is realized in practice, and how civil society organizations exploit the unique features of the Internet to attain their goals. This is the story of the organization members’ outlooks and impressions of digital platforms’ role as tools for social change; a story that debunks a common myth about the Internet and collective action. In a time when social media are credited with immense power in generating social change, this book serves as an important reminder that reality for activists and social change organizations is more complicated. Thus, the book sheds light on the back stage of social change organizations’ operations as they struggle to gain visibility in the infinite sea of civil groups competing for attention in the online public sphere. While many studies focus on the performative dimension of collective action )such as protests(, this book highlights the challenges of these organizations’ mundane routines. Using a unique analytical perspective based on a structural-organizational approach, and a longitudinal study that utilizes a decade worth of data related to the specific case of Israel and its highly conflicted and turbulent society, the book makes a significant contribution to study of new media and to theories of Internet, democracy, and social change.

New York City is obsessed with food. Especially in the streets of The Quarter, every imaginable delicacy is made and devoured, every unspeakable hunger is fulfilled. Talia, a recent divorcee, comes to The Quarter to be reborn. She discovers fresh purpose in the sensual pleasures there, and a possible new love. But eventually she finds herself face to face with the darkness under its surface-in both the privileged patrons who feast there, and the third-world laborers who feed them. Now Talia must separate the truth from the madness because in The Quarter, the haves and have-nots are about to face a reckoning."Utterly absorbing...It's a wild feast for the senses that reads as if Margaret Atwood and Gordon Ramsay met in a kitchen somewhere to cook up this story together."-Stephanie Storey, author of Oil and Marble: A Novel of Leonardo and Michelangelo"A startling, seductive story voiced by a complex heroine, sage in its subversive candor and nuanced treatment of our time of plenty."-Ilan Mochari, author of Zinsky the Obscure"Delman guides us like a culinary Virgil through a surreal inferno exposing our contemporary culture of indulgence."-Joshua Gaylord, author of When We Were Animals

In the setting of multiparty computation, sets of two or more parties with p- vate inputs wish to jointly compute some (predetermined) function of their inputs. The computation should be such that the outputs received by the parties are correctly distributed, and furthermore, that the privacy of each party’s input is preserved as much as possible, even in the presence of - versarial behavior. This encompasses any distributed computing task and includes computations as simple as coin-tossing and broadcast, and as c- plex as electronic voting, electronic auctions, electronic cash schemes and anonymous transactions. The feasibility (and infeasibility) of multiparty c- putation has been extensively studied, resulting in a rather comprehensive understanding of what can and cannot be securely computed, and under what assumptions. The theory of cryptography in general, and secure multiparty computation in particular, is rich and elegant. Indeed, the mere fact that it is possible to actually achieve the aforementioned task is both surprising and intriguing.

One day, as Anna plays with her big, shiny blue ball, it bounces away into the street and disappears.Anna is sad that her ball is gone, but her mother calms her down and tells her about The Garden of Lost Balls. The Garden of Lost Balls, indirectly and sensitively, discusses the issue of loss and saying goodbye. It can be challenging for parents to explain that to their children, since kids often find it difficult to understand. While this story is mostly about "losing" a beloved ball-it opens a discussion beyond that, including an honest dialogue about the cycle of life and death. With The Garden of Lost Balls, children will learn about loss in a unique, colorful, and age-appropriate way. Using approachable and sensitive language, the book helps parents and teachers talk to children about this subject. The Garden of Lost Balls is Carmit Rachel Swed's first children's book. Carmit is a lawyer, a mother of a 3-year-old girl named Emma, and has a lot of experience in personal empowerment and development.Having experience loss at an early age, this subject is very dear to Carmit, and could serve as a useful communication tool between parents and their children. This tool allows any child to gain a sense of self-confidence and learn about the world without being afraid.Licensed social worker Inbar Foyershtein is a family, couples, and individual therapist. She is a trauma expert who has worked in the health system for over a decade. Foyershtein served as the book's professional consultant, and at the end of the book, she explains how and why you should talk to your child about loss.

A compact, incisive history of a war that was an ominous prelude to Russia’s invasion of UkraineLeaving almost half a million dead and displacing an estimated twelve million people, the Syrian Civil War is a humanitarian catastrophe of unimaginable scale. Syrian Requiem analyzes the causes and course of this bitter conflict—from its first spark in a peaceful Arab Spring protest to the tenuous victory of the Asad dictatorship—and traces how the fighting has reduced Syria to a crisis-ridden vassal state with little prospect of political reform, national reconciliation, or economic reconstruction.Israel’s chief negotiator with Syria during the mid-1990s, Itamar Rabinovich brings unmatched expertise and insight to the politics of the Middle East. Drawing on more than two hundred specially conducted interviews with key players, Rabinovich and Carmit Valensi assess the roles of local, regional, and global interests in the war. Local sectarian divisions established the fault lines of the initial conflict, ultimately leading to the rise of the brutal Islamic State. However, Syria rapidly became the stage for proxy warfare between contending regional powers, including Israel, Turkey, and Iran. At the same time, while a war-weary United States attempted to reduce its military involvement in the Middle East, a resurgent Russia regained regional influence by supporting Syrian government forces. Telling the story of the war and its aftermath, Rabinovich and Valensi also examine the considerable potential for renewed conflict and the difficult policy choices facing the United States, Russia, and other powers.A compact and incisive history of one of the defining wars of our times, Syrian Requiem is a vivid and timely account of a conflict that continues to reverberate today.

At the present time, the laboratory mouse has become a central tool for skeletal studies, mainly because of the extensive use of genetic manipulations in this species. Naturally, this widespread use of mice in developmental, bone, joint, tooth, and neurological research calls for detailed anatomical knowledge of the mouse skeleton as a reference for experimental design and phenotyping under a variety of experimental conditions, including genetic manipulations (e.g., transgenic and kno- out mice). Several general treatises on the normal anatomy of the mouse and rat have been published in the previous century. In the absence of adequate technologies, these books describe only the external anatomical features of the different parts of the skeleton. In general, images in these atlases are camera lucida-based line drawings rather than accurate three-dimensional images. Furthermore, so far a systematic two- and three-dimensional description of the internal anatomy of bones, as well as the three-dimensional relationship exhibited in joints, are not available.

The Micro-Tomographic Atlas of the Mouse Skeleton provides a unique systematic description of all calcified components of the mouse. It includes about 200 high resolution, two and three dimensional m CT images of the exterior and interiors of all bones and joints. In addition, the spatial relationship of bones within complex skeletal units is also described. The images are accompanied by detailed explanatory text, thus highlighting special features and newly reported structures. The Atlas fulfils an emerging need for a comprehensive reference to assist both trained and in-training researchers.

For the first time since his high school graduation, Dave Wilson returns to Carmi, a small town in Illinois, to attend his 35th year class reunion. Instead of a nostalgic weekend visit with classmates, he becomes the police's only suspect in a high profile murder and his stay is extended. ".....Why is this happening to me? Was I in the wrong place at the wrong time? Was the timing of my coming to Carmi and the murder just a coincidence? On the other hand, maybe the person who wanted him dead knew about our confrontational history and when he or she found out I would be in town for the reunion, a plan came together. I would be the perfect fall guy....." ".....Why didn't I think this thing through before I agreed to meet them here; at night. Damn. What if Frank and Stewart are somehow mixed up in the murder and I'm the only one who can link them to the crime? Damn. What if the two people standing in the shadows are not even Frank and Stewart? What if they are the two mob goons and they have been tipped off to where I'll be? Damn....." ".....I folded my hands behind my head and stared at the ceiling. I could not sleep; the memory continued to flood my mind. I had not seen or talked to her in 35 years yet the last words she said to me then are what's keeping me awake now: I will probably always love you....."

This volume contains fifteen articles, many in Hebrew, by leading scholars. The articles cover a broad range of subjects, from an analysis of biblical narratives as expounded in the midrash and by medieval commentators, through a discussion of Maimonides’ attitude towards midrash and an analysis of talmudic aggadah as expounded by oriental scholars, to polemics concerning the attitude to aggadah in the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries, and culminating with an analysis of interpretation of aggadah by latter-day talmudic scholars. There are also articles about the essence of aggadah, its literary conventions and its relation to law, and two articles which deal with a passage in the Passover Haggadah. The participants include: E. Eizenman, N. Ilan, G. Blidstein, Y. Blau, M. Bregman, A. Grossman, H. Davidson, C. Horowitz, O. Viskind-Elper, H. Mak, A. Atzmon, A. Kadari, A. Rozenak, M.
