Fifth grader Yolonda is determined to prove that her younger brother is not a slow learner but a true musical genius in this sweet and inspirational Newbery Honor Book. Yolanda is smart, tough, and big for her age. Back in Chicago where they used to live, everyone knew better than to mess with her or her little brother, Andrew. Andrew doesn't talk very much and he can't read, but he can create unbelievable music on the old harmonica their father left him. When Yolanda reads the definition of "genius" in the dictionary, she knows it describes Andrew, and she's determined to convince the world, especially their mother, of Andrew's gift. Then one day when Yolanda's back is turned, the unthinkable happens, and the music stops. Now Yolanda's mission is more important than ever. How can she open people's eyes to Andrew's talent and help him find the music again?

Inside your wall, no one can touch you It was Randall's sister who first told him about the invisible wall that protected her from the cruelty of her classmates. By the time Randall is in fifth grade, he's had his own wall for years. Inside his wall, he doesn't have to think about his abusive father, gone for several months, or his thin, suffering mother, who never leaves the house -- the house with no running water for laundry or baths. Inside his wall, he can dream about picnics, about riding on his Uncle Luke's motorcycle, and, always, he can lose himself in his drawing. But one day Randall makes a friend, and slowly, frighteningly, his wall begins to crumble. And miraculously, the gift that comforted Randall within his wall opens up a new world outside it.

Probably the most popular horse story of all time, Black Beauty tells the story of one horse's long and varied life. On the one hand, a fully engaging novel and on the other hand, a strong statement against animal maltreatment. Anna Sewell's classic novel has enthralled readers since it was first published in 1877.

This report reviews international research into the barriers to play for children with disabilities. The authors come from different disciplinary backgrounds, in Sociology, Social Policy, Anthropology, Occupational Health and Education and bring different concerns to this review. They are united, however, in their adoption of a rights-based perspective. The UNCRC and UNCRPD emphasise the right to play for children with disabilities. Play is vital for child development. The problem of 'play deprivation' for many children with disabilities is very real. Yet the right to, and value of 'play for the sake of play', for fun and recreation, must not be forgotten in relation to the lives of children with disabilities. The focus in this report is upon barriers to play that exist beyond the minds and bodies of individual children, within a 'disabling' environment. Barriers include those associated with the design of the built environment, social attitudes and professional practices. The report maps an agenda for further research in this area, emphasising the need for participatory methodologies that capture the views and voices of children with disabilities, their friends and families, on this important issue of play. More than 6 million children with disabilities in North America require assistive technology and related services each year in order to participate and succeed in school. This book, Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology, provides an essential guide for assessing a child's needs, choosing and implementing the right technologies and services, and training education professionals in how to optimize learning with these critical tools. Work on the Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology (QIAT) began in the summer of 1998 when a group of assistive technology (AT) service providers shared their concerns about the complexity of selecting, locating, and delivering AT and AT services in K-12 and postsecondary environments. They agreed on the need for professional guidelines to improve the quality and consistency of AT delivery. Since then the QIAT Leadership Team has gathered input from more than 4,000 individuals ranging from students and families to school staff, policy makers and higher education faculty. After many drafts and revisions informed by the field, the result is the Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology: A Comprehensive Guide to Assistive Technology Services. This book is indispensable for:school districts as they strive to develop and provide quality assistive technology services aligned to federal, state and local mandatesassistive technology service providers as they evaluate and constantly improve their servicesconsumers of assistive technology services as they seek appropriate assistive technology services which meet their needsuniversities and professional developers as they conduct research and deliver programs that promote the development of the competencies needed to provide quality assistive technology servicespolicy makers as they attempt to develop judicious and equitable policies related to assistive technology services.Filled with information and supports such as self-evaluation matrices, suggested activities, checklists and other helpful tools, Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology is a clearly written and well-organized resource for those who seek to ensure that quality AT services are provided.

Sometimes it's pretty hard to believe that Happy Ever After even exists. Can Carol let go of the past and move on to the future with a handsome chef whose intentions are an open book? It's pretty clear to everyone but Carol that he's in love with her. It's also pretty clear to everyone that Carol has some issues she needs to overcome before she can take the first step to Midlife happiness.A Maltese puppy and good friends who conspire with the chef just might make everything possible. But then again, whoever said life will go smoothly and just the way you want it to was wrong.

Alguns s n molt coneguts, d'altres no tant, per tots s n molt entretinguts.
