When she did not eat all the food on her plate, her Aunt Roselee said, "Mr. Needmore is going to get you when you grow up. You just wait and see." When the little girl lost a sock or scarf, Aunt Roselee told her, "Mr. Needmore is going to get you when you grow up. You just wait and see." Throughout her childhood, the girl wondered who Mr. Needmore was and what he looked like. Was he tall and skinny like a totem pole? Or was he short and fat like a wild buffalo? It was not until she was an adult that she discovered the identity of Mr. Needmore. A picture book for children, My Aunt Roselee's Mr. Needmore, shares a message to kids about becoming wise and not being wasteful in what is given and learning to be good keepers of the things life grants them.

I heard these words from a charming and wise brilliant actress Viola Davis whom I admire immensely; "Let us exhume the bones of the dead and tell their stories...." that touched my heart, so I decided to heed her words and penned this story for young children to read or read to them in hopes it would kindle a spark of fire in their quest to learn about the dehumanizing tragedy of slavery as free labor in Southern States and to compare enslaved humans with animals enjoying their freedom in Africa. Knowing truths according to biblical scripture, St. John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" knowing truths should be the first step in gaining knowledge and aligning oneself with facts. It was my challenge in this children's book not only to cultivate awareness about slavery being unjust but prompt readers' journey to seek the truth about slavery and be able to formulate their narrative. Paraphrasing the scripture Philippians 4:8, true freedom comes from knowing things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of excellent report only if a mind is morally sound and can honor a living God. There is no shame in knowing truths. Only to accept the knowledge and, with a grateful heart, right the wrong thru deeds of love and kindness. The Declaration of Independence declares, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." This is the uniform standard ideal our forefathers put in place for Americans to adopt and should live. The practice of slavery was in place before the adoption of the Constitution and was a part of the social wealth system that made it almost impossible to change. Today let us all stand to right the wrong thru our deeds of love and kindness and know that any form of denying a person true liberty is wrong.

Why Be Moral is a book that grew out of years of experience of introducing people to issues having to do with morality. The assumption on which the book is based is that thinking is essential for a moral life. Simply going along with what others think or what one might have been taught is not enough. A moral person must think. A moral person must take responsibility. This is a basic requirement of being human.

This book vividly evokes radical women's integral roles within France's revolutionary civil war known as the Paris Commune. It demonstrates the breadth, depth, and impact of communard feminist socialisms far beyond the 1871 insurrection. Examining the period from the early 1860s through that century's end, Carolyn J. Eichner investigates how radical women developed critiques of gender, class, and religious hierarchies in the immediate pre-Commune era, how these ideologies emerged as a plurality of feminist socialisms within the revolution, and how these varied politics subsequently affected fin-de-siècle gender and class relations. She focuses on three distinctly dissimilar revolutionary women leaders who exemplify multiple competing and complementary feminist socialisms: Andre Leo, Elisabeth Dmitrieff, and Paule Mink. Leo theorized and educated through journalism and fiction, Dmitrieff organized institutional power for working-class women, and Mink agitated crowds to create an egalitarian socialist world. Each woman forged her own path to gender equality and social justice.
Irony and Meaning in the Hebrew Bible

Irony and Meaning in the Hebrew Bible

Carolyn J. Sharp

Was God being ironic in commanding Eve not to eat fruit from the tree of wisdom? Carolyn J. Sharp suggests that many stories in the Hebrew Scriptures may be ironically intended. Deftly interweaving literary theory and exegesis, Sharp illumines the power of the unspoken in a wide variety of texts from the Pentateuch, the Prophets, and the Writings. She argues that reading with irony in mind creates a charged and open rhetorical space in the texts that allows character, narration, and authorial voice to develop in unexpected ways. Main themes explored here include the ironizing of foreign rulers, the prostitute as icon of the ironic gaze, indeterminacy and dramatic irony in prophetic performance, and irony in ancient Israel's wisdom traditions. Sharp devotes special attention to how irony destabilizes dominant ways in which the Bible is read today, especially when it touches on questions of conflict, gender, and the Other.

This bio-bibliography of one the most important contemporary British composers begins with a brief biographical sketch. Works and first performances are listed alphabetically by title, and each entry is followed by the relevant bibliographic citation numbers. The discography includes sound recordings in all formats. The major portion of the work, the bibliography, is divided into articles and reviews; books, theses, and dissertations; articles by Walton; and films. The archival section lists collections of Walton's music manuscripts, letters, and miscellanea. Two appendices contain a chronological listing of works and first performances, and a works lists arranged by classification. An index of individuals and performance ensembles completes the work, which will serve as a significant addition to university libraries and departments of music.William Turner Walton (1902-1983) was born in Oldham, England. He showed an early talent for composition and had written several significant works by 1916. Following his failure to graduate from Oxford, Walton took up residence with the Sitwell family in Chelsea and embarked upon one of the most productive phases of his career. Acclaimed as a milestone in British choral music, Belshazzar's Feast premiered in 1931, and its instant success established Walton firmly among the ranks of important contemporary British composers. Subsequently, Walton began work on his Symphony No. 1 and simultaneously wrote his first film score, one of many first-class scores he composed for movies including As You Like It, Henry V, and Chekhov's Three Sisters. Walton traveled to Argentina in 1948, where he met and married his wife Susana. The couple returned to London, but soon relocated to a villa on Ischia, an island off the coast of Naples. Another fruitful period ensued, marked by many important commissions. The composer died in 1983, and a foundation was later established for the purpose of transforming the villa into a performing arts center.

"Remember When" presents a nostalgic view of the history and cultural heritage of Elberton, Georgia. Carolyn's keen interest in the history of Elbert County led her to write local history stories for the Elberton Star. Over the years, she has assembled an ample collection of historical and genealogical books, articles and various other documents, along with conversations and interviews with long-time residents from which she draws her thoughts. This, her first book is based on the stories and research coming from these sources and is presented here in her delightful, homespun storytelling style where her Christian beliefs and devotion often shine through. Carolyn says, "It has been a joy to spend quality time, after retirement, doing something I thoroughly enjoy."

Britain and the Problem of International Disarmament
In the aftermath of the Great War, multilateral disarmament was placed at the top of the international agenda by the Treaty of Versailles and the Covenant of the League of Nations. This book analyzes the naval, air and land disarmament policies of successive British governments from 1919 to 1934, articulating their dilemma either to fulfil their obligations or to avoid them. Daring and controversial, the present study challenges the hitherto accepted view that Britain occupied the high moral ground by drastically reducing its armaments and argues that, during this period, British disarmament policy was reactive and generally failed to provide the leadership that this extremely sensitive time in international politics demanded.
