India is a land of enormous diversity. Cross-cultural influences are everywhere in evidence, in the food people eat, the clothes they wear, and in the places they worship. This was especially the case in the India that existed from 1200 to 1750, before the European intervention. The book takes the reader on a journey across the political, economic, religious and cultural landscapes of medieval India, from the Ghurid conquests and the Dehli Sultanate to the great court of the Mughals. This was a time of conquest and consolidation, when Muslims and Hindus came together to create a unique culture which still resonates in today's India. As the first survey of its kind in over a decade, the book is a tour de force. It is beautifully illustrated and fluently composed, with a cast of characters which will educate students and general readers alike.

India is a land of enormous diversity. Cross-cultural influences are everywhere in evidence, in the food people eat, the clothes they wear, and in the places they worship. This was ever the case, and at no time more so than in the India that existed from c. 1200 to 1750, before European intervention. In this thoughtfully revised and updated second edition, readers are taken on a richly illustrated journey across the political, economic, religious, and cultural landscapes of India – from the Ghurid conquest and the Delhi Sultanate, through the rise and fall of the southern kingdom of Vijayanagara and their successors, to the peripheries of empire, to the great court of the Mughals. This was a time of conquest and consolidation, when Muslims and Hindus came together to create a literary, material, and visual culture which was uniquely their own and which still resonates today.

Delhi's Qutb Complex, the Minar, Mosque and Mehrauli
-Set apart from the descriptive guides that exist on the subject, this book analyzes the meaning of the Qutb Complex's monuments and their afterlife from the fourteenth through the twenty-first centuries The Qutb complex is one of Delhi's major tourist attractions and the Qutb Minar is often used as an iconic emblem representing the city. Yet aside from scholarly essays and largely descriptive books on the site, there has been little attempt to write an accessible analysis of the site's monuments, patrons, inscriptions and history. This book will examine not only the site as it was developed in the early Sultanate period, but also probe its life prior to the establishment of Muslim rule in the late-twelfth century and then again after the period of Sultanate patronage of the site up to the present. The aim of this volume is to prove that over time the complex remained considerably more significant in meaning than is generally believed. The surrounding urban area, including dargahs, temples, mosques, tombs and water sources, will be studied in terms of their relation to the core mosque and minaret. A comprehensive analysis of the interwoven histories of the Qutb Complex and its architecture, this book is both visually sumptuous and informative.

That means you can use your time to bring those facts to life and teach about what matters most: the spiritual significance and application of Scripture. Each Workbook contains thousands of fill-in-the-blank questions as well as interactive diagrams and maps. They can be adapted for virtually any teaching setting (homeschool, Bible class, Sunday school). Volume 1 takes you through the Old Testament chronologically (Job comes just after Genesis, for example, and the prophets are paired with their historical events found in the historical books). Volume 2 on the New Testament is also available.

Closet Stages

Closet Stages examines theater theory produced by middle- and upper-class British women-playwrights, actresses, and spectators-between 1790 and 1840. Shifting the focus away from the Romantic male writers to the journals, letters, and play prefaces in which women framed their relationship to the theater arts, Catherine Burroughs reveals how a concern with the performative aspects of daily life and the movement between public and private spheres produced a notion of theater that complicates the Romantic opposition between "closet" and "stage."

The overarching argument of Reading the Social Body is that the body is cultural rather than "natural." Some of the essays treat the social construction of bodies that have actually existed in human history; others discuss the representation of bodies in artistic contexts; all recognize that everything visible to the human body--from posture and costume to the width of an eyebrow or a smile--is determined by and shaped in response to a particular culture.

The karma of the U.S. has descended. The nation has been crippled by fire and flood, by economic collapse, by EMP attacks, by plague and invasion, by earthquake and volcanic ash. Everything that could happen has happened--except nuclear war. Something has held it back. But what? The paths of a Tibetan trader and a young family converge, linked by the death of a soldier and the mysterious series of numbers that is his legacy and the birthright of his children. Together, the trader and the little family embark on a search for answers. Tashi comes from the western Rocky Mountains, where his isolated Tibetan community has taken extraordinary measures to preserve their culture and their spiritual life. Tara has raised her teenagers alone, keeping the memory of their father alive through stories, and passing on their long-ago Guru's teachings and practice from all that is left--her memory. John and Hope, 16 and 13, are working through feelings of loss and abandonment, as an astonishing new life is about to open before them. Follow Tashi, Tara, John, and Hope on their individual and collective journey high in the Rockies, into an abundant future.

Here's How: Balanced Intervention for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder is a timely resource for speech-language pathologists working with children on the autism spectrum as well as graduate students preparing to work with this demographic. The authors outline a clear explanation of autism spectrum disorder and how it affects communication, socialization, behavior, and learning. Furthermore, they review evidence-based practices and provide tools for instructional strategies. This book doesn't set out to provide a recipe for therapy; rather, guidelines to follow and individualize for each patient. The video clips on the accompanying DVD allow for multimedia, multisensory learning and provide models for clinicians. The DVD also includes practical applications for the clinical setting derived from research and experience.
