God has a purpose for your struggles Have you found yourself asking God, "Why am I going through this? What is the point of all of this? Is there something I am to learn from this craziness?"Struggle is a part of life--most often a very frustrating part of life. Struggle is a part of your development as a mature human being, and moreover, a critical part of your development as a Christian. Your struggle can take on many forms.Conflict with a family member, much like Jacob and Esau.Facing the dire consequences of a personal decision, like Jonah.Standing alone against a mob, like Elisha.Speaking to power for the sake of others as Esther did.Facing a giant in life as David did."God, I'm Struggling" is about struggle-but it is not about the struggle to believe in God, or the struggle to accept Jesus as your Savior. This book is about deepening your understanding of the purpose of your struggles in life and the lessons to be learned from the crises you experience. Through a survey of 15 biblical characters and their experience with challenges, you will- Reflect upon a full range of life struggles experienced in scripture.- Understand the nature of God as revealed in the struggles of Biblical characters.- Clarify who you are spiritually as you face your challenges.- Apply lessons learned from the study of the characters to your personal struggles.- Be equipped to help others in their personal struggles in life. When we recognize God's fingerprints in the details of our life, we become better equipped to face and overcome life's challenges. And as we overcome, we learn the lessons that God intended us to learn. It is only then that we can truly begin to live with impact.

More than 2600 species of tiger beetles are found all over the world. In North America there are 116 species of tiger beetle, divided into 153 geographically distinct races. Detailed studies of their natural history, population dynamics, communities, patterns of worldwide species richness, and taxonomy of particular subgroups have produced much information. Tiger beetles are among the most widely investigated groups of insects, especially in terms of their ecology and geographic distribution. The first edition of A Field Guide to the Tiger Beetles of the United States and Canada, published in 2005, has served as a field and natural-history guide to all known species of tiger beetles found in North America above the Mexican border. The 2nd edition is a pleasant and comprehensible handbook of the identification, distribution, natural history, and habitat details of the 116 species of tiger beetles in North America. The updated handbook provides new information including observations of seasonality, range extensions and biology, a newly developed list of common names, and twenty-five artistically pleasing identification color plates. The second edition of A Field Guide to the Tiger Beetles of the United States and Canada provides essential information to recognize and easily identify tiger beetles for established naturalists and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Charles I and the Road to Personal Rule

Charles I and the Road to Personal Rule

L. J. Reeve

Cambridge University Press
2003
pokkari
This study of the character and policies of Charles I provides an analysis of the political crisis leading to his personal rule in England during the years before the civil wars. It fills a gap in the historical literature of the period by integrating ideological with political developments and English with international affairs. It is also a contribution to the wider European history of a critical phase of the Thirty Years War. The book offers a new way of understanding Charles by demonstrating how ill-suited his personality was to the workings of the political world. It also argues that Charles’s innovatory rule created a new pattern of national politics deeply destructive in its effects. The book gives a gripping account of the king’s willingness to pervert the due process of law in dealing with his political opponents, as well as investigating his failures in religious and foreign policy.

Charles J. Connick

Charles J. Connick

The first comprehensive account of Charles J. Connick, America’s most innovative and influential stained glass artist working in the first half of the twentieth century When Charles J. Connick (1875–1945) began his stained glass career in Pittsburgh in the 1890s, America’s fascination with the newly invented “opalescent” windows of Tiffany and La Farge meant that the original traditions of the art form were almost forgotten. Connick made it his life’s mission to reassert the values of the medieval craft, successfully persuading twentieth-century Americans that these could inspire powerfully expressive modern glass as well as thrilling new imagery. This book presents the dynamic trajectory of Connick’s artistic development. Refuting any notion of Connick as a revivalist, Peter Cormack examines the diverse cultural influences that shaped Connick’s art, including his creative interaction with European stained glass and his friendship with poets such as Robert Frost. Richly illustrated and based on decades of research, it analyzes Connick’s work in the context of the Arts and Crafts and “Modern Gothic” movements in architecture and the applied arts, showcasing stained glass works found throughout some of the most spectacular buildings in the United States, including New York’s St. John the Divine Cathedral and San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral. His fruitful collaborations with Ralph Adams Cram, Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue, Maginnis & Walsh, and other leading architects are also documented in detail.
