See Juanita's transformation from the person she had always been - one who loved life, living & laughter - to one who was anxious & depressed, resigned to her fate, unable to breathe unless sitting upright. She knew there was no escape. It is important that probate judges serve the interests of the elders who appear before them. They should not choose which person will be the guardian of an elder based on whom their attorney-friend represents in the dispute. Till-Mobley said we will have "freedom for everyone or freedom fails." Freedom for Juanita failed. The Benton County probate system failed Juanita. I want others to see for themselves and know the truth about Juanita's last months on earth. This book is full of photos and documents, since pictures are worth a thousand words. The picture of Juanita on the book cover was taken a month before Juanita's 100th birthday.

This text focuses student-learning on the key communication competencies recommended by the National Communication Association. Introduced at the beginning of each chapter, integrated throughout the text, and tied into the learning system in MyCommunicationLab, these learning outcomes help focus students as they study the theory and skills to become better, more effective communicators. Well-written with interesting examples and a vibrant and engaging design, this text covers all the expected topics in an introductory course (foundations of communication, interpersonal communication, small group communication, and public speaking - plus a special appendix on interviewing). Scenarios begin each chapter with a problem to which students can relate and then solve as they learn about the concepts discussed in each chapter. A concentrated focus on careers in communication, highlighted in a two-page spread near the end of each chapter, brings home the relevance of communication outside the classroom and helps students learn more about how studying communication can help them throughout their lives. Additional emphasis on topics such as ethics, culture, gender, and technology is found throughout the text.

Who Is the Church? An Ecclesiology for the Twenty-First Century
Many congregations today are beset by fears, whether over loss of members and money, or of irrelevancy in an increasingly pluralistic society. To counter this, many congregations focus on strategy and purposewhat churches "do"but Cheryl Peterson submits that mainline churches need to focus instead on "what" or "who" they areto reclaim a theological, rather than sociological, understanding of themselves. To do this, she places the questions of the church's identity and mission into a conversation with the primary ecclesiological paradigms of the past century: the neo-Reformation concept of the church as a "word event" and the ecumenical paradigms of the church as "communion." She argues that these two paradigms assume a context of cultural Christendom that no longer existsfocused on the church that is gatheredrather than the missional church that is sent out.Peterson suggests instead that we understand the church as a people created by the Spirit to be a community, and that we must claim a narrative method to explore the church's identityspecifically, the story of the church's origin in the Acts of the Apostles. Finally, here is a way of thinking of church that reconciles the best of competing models of church for the future of mainline Protestant theology.

Lean Human Resources addresses a critical issue facing organisations undertaking lean transformation or attempting to create a lean culture of continuous improvement. People are the single biggest factor necessary to ensure success, but it is common for the role of the HR department to be overlooked. Cheryl M. Jekiel, who has been implementing Lean initiatives out of HR offices for more than 20 years, defines the people-related approaches and practices required for success. She explains how the HR function must work hand-in-hand with senior leaders to alter the cultural dynamic that keeps employees from leveraging their peak abilities, analysing why so many companies allow this sort of waste to exist and how traditional HR departments have not been especially effective in combating waste. The book provides continuous improvement professionals, executives and business owners with the means to maximize employee potential by showing them how to increase the improvement power of their HR departments. It also helps them understand what lean transformations can achieve with the correct investment of time, funds, resources and leadership approach. It is also the perfect introduction to lean for those working in HR, explaining the role they should take to support lean implementation and help their colleagues achieve their full potential.Much has been learned since the first edition published five years ago based on the hundreds of conversations the author has had about Lean HR with people from all over the world. This new edition brings Lean Human Resources right up-to-date.

I was born at home, 1445 N. 8th Street in Milwaukee, WI on February 23, 1941. The oldest daughter of three brothers and three sisters of which my sister, Renee passed away at 28 years of age. I attended Lee Street School, St. Benedict the Moor Grade School, St. Catherine's High School in Racine, WI, studied for three years to become a Dominican sister; returned to St. Benedict the Moor High School, graduated in 1959; graduated from Milwaukee Area Technical College as an L.P.N. in 1974; graduated from ITT Career Training about 1984. My working career as various as my poems--as an L.P.N., Social Work Aide, Alcoholism/Drug Counselor, secretary to the Dean of Students in Milwaukee; secretary at the American Red Cross in St. Croix and Milwaukee; secretary to a Senator in Christiansted, and at the fi rst Kmart in Frederiksted, US Virgin Islands. My love for the Veterans encouraged me to volunteer at the USO in Milwaukee and St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. I was married for twenty-four years, have two daughters, one son, one granddaughter and two grandsons. Joe W. Cocroft died on the day before Thanksgiving, November 21, 2007 at the age of 68 years. I had a dream, three months earlier that he passed away, had written it down, but forgot about it. I truly miss Joe. We were divorced twenty-four years, yet remained friends up until his death. "My Magic Mirror," my fi rst booklet of poetry was self-published in 1988. May 7, 2017 I have had a loss of friendship, but also lots of compliments especially by my family. I reread the book to encourage myself and have found a few errors, but mostly I love the book and the design. Although it is painful for me to read, I fall back in love when I read my love store. I have been asked to write more, but nothing is stirring up there. I usually write when I have a broken heart, but nothing is being stirred up. I truly appreciate everyone that purchased my book.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Edwina "Salt" Evelyn and Jewel "Pepper" Welch learned to tap dance on street corners in New York and Philadelphia. By the 1940s, they were Black show business headliners, playing Harlem's Apollo Theater with the likes of Count Basie, Fats Waller and Earl "Fatha" Hines. Their exuberant tap style, usually performed by men, earned them the respect of their male peers and the acclaim of audiences. Based on extensive interviews with Salt and Pepper, this book chronicles for the first time the lives and careers of two overlooked female performers who succeeded despite the racism, sexism and homophobia of the Big Band era.

While tap dancers Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, and Eleanor Powell were major Hollywood stars, and the rhythms of Black male performers such as the Nicholas Brothers and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson were appreciated in their time, Black female tap dancers seldom achieved similar recognition. Who were these women? The author sought them out, interviewed them, and documented their stories for this book. Here are the personal stories of many Black women tap dancers who were hailed by their male counterparts, performed on the most prominent American stages, and were pioneers in the field of Black tap.
