"Thomas Jefferson was one of the most accomplished men in American history. Along with representing our country in France, he was Secretary of State and even became the third president of the United States. But like all great people, Thomas did many things that weren't so great at all."Thomas Jefferson enslaved over 600 African-American people during his lifetime. Those he enslaved were chefs and skilled workers who, with stolen labor, made it so that Jefferson's life ran smoothly. Behind his many accomplishments were enslaved people whose time and talents allowed Jefferson to accomplish great things. Targeted for readers ages 5 and older, On the Backs of the Enslaved is aimed at teaching kids about the privilege of founding father Jefferson and honoring those he enslaved.

At its core, Indigenous Child and Youth Care Practices: Weaving Two Heart Stories Together is about unity. It seeks to create a heart-to-heart practice by bridging Indigenous ways of knowing with Western Child and Youth Care practices, encouraging students to approach their work with a more open understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit worldviews. Author Cherylanne James guides students through self-location by dismantling their pre-existing biases regarding Indigenous Peoples, understanding personal privilege and power, educating themselves on Canadian and Indigenous history and contexts, and learning about the pervasive impacts of colonialism. Students will cultivate a practice that encourages ethical spaces of engagement while steering away from surface-level or disingenuous interactions. The text applies concepts and theories such as relational accountability, interconnectivity, resurgence, community-centred approaches, wise practices, relationship-building, anti-oppression, anti-racist, and social justice frameworks to enrich CYC practices and prepare students to engage with Indigenous children, youth and families in an informed, meaningful way.Indigenous Child and Youth Care Practices is designed as a journey, wherein the student reflects while they learn and grow as a CYC professional. It includes a variety of pedagogical features that catalyze thoughtful interaction with the material, such as a glossary, discussion questions, reflective practice question boxes, and additional resources for further learning. This is a powerful and vital text for college and university students in Child and Youth Care and Human Services.

The first undergraduate guide to qualitative ethnographic fieldwork, this book describes a step-by-step procedure called the dialogical hermeneutic method of analysis, including its philosophical basis, practical application, and ethical implications. The authors delineate the characteristics of the scientific and humanistic paradigms in the social sciences and emphasize that the hermeneutic method is employed in the humanistic paradigm. They discuss topics often missing from fieldwork manuals, such as journal keeping, personal and interpersonal relationships, ethics, and writing the ethnographic essay.

Her insightful investigation will bring new perspectives on the subject of women in Judaeo-Christian tradition during the Greco-Roman period. The Gender and the Biblical Tradition series brings to a wide audience important new discoveries concerning women and the Bible, ancient Israel, and early Christianity. The books explore the role of sexuality within the biblical tradition and document the continuing influence of biblical treatments of gender on subsequent life and thought.

Household Interests is one of the first books to explore in-depth the nature of the Greek household (oikos) in classical Athens. Whereas the oikos traditionally has been defined as the household of the nuclear family in Greece, Cheryl Anne Cox reveals it as a much more fluid structure, taking care to distinguish between the concepts of "household" and "family." The legal basis of the typical elite household emerges as Cox describes marriage patterns or strategies among the families represented in Attic orations and funerary inscriptions: property interests were a strong motivating force, with the elite marrying within their kin, primarily through paternal lines in which property was transferred. The author ultimately shows that the household was not limited to "family" or kinspeople. Friends, neighbors, concubines or prostitutes, and slaves also shared in property interests and all could have a profound influence on the household. After first examining marriage patterns, Cox turns to inter-family relationships. Using anthropological sources and historical studies of European societies, she shows how property interest shaped often conflicted relations between parents and their children and among brothers, and yet it encouraged male charity toward sisters. Cox next considers how property transfer through adoption, guardianship, and remarriage, and the intervention of friends, concubines, and slaves, all contributed to expanding the boundaries of the household beyond kin. Originally published in 1998. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Just A Girl. Just A Guy. Just a Bench... A bench on a street, but this isn't the story of a bench. It's the story of a Girl. A Girl who didn't know how to girl. Endearingly nerdy, sharp, funny, and a bit of a tomboy badass, Girl is not a prude. Not shy or timid. She loves horror movies and literature and dirty jokes. She looks good in flannel, she's 26, and she's into crushes. Romantic crushes where she can dream about holding hands or talking for hours on a hill, in the quiet and stillness of the starlight. Anything more than hand-holding seems weird to her. Other kids in College made her feel like a freak, and she began to worry that there was something wrong with her. In a society of pouty lips, big breasts, and stiletto heels, she was becoming invisible, until her best friend started dating Mathilda. This is a story about a Girl, about a Guy she knows, and a bench upon which they were sat. Our Girl has never been good at radical thoughts, and she usually gets what she deserves when she has them. This is the story about those thoughts. Thoughts on how to NOT have sex, Not eat noodles, and other life, love, and dating nonsense from a Girl who was brave enough to challenge what it means to be a girl. Attraction is more fluid than it seems. It's a new kind of sexual revolution, and through fits and fumbles, our Girl finally discovers that love is what you make of it.
