Bassoon Reed Making

Bassoon Reed Making

Withheld by leading pedagogues in an effort to control competition, the art of reed making in the early 20th century has been shrouded in secrecy, producing a generation of performers without reed making fluency. While tenets of past decades remain in modern pedagogy, Christin Schillinger details the historical pedagogical trends of bassoon reed making to examine the impact different methods have had on the practice of reed making and performance today. Schillinger traces the pedagogy of reed making from the earliest known publication addressing bassoon pedagogy in 1687 through the publication of Julius Weissenborn's Praktische Fagott-Schule and concludes with an in-depth look at contemporary methodologies developed by Louis Skinner, Don Christlieb, Norman Herzberg, and Lewis Hugh Cooper. Aimed at practitioners and pedagogues of the bassoon, this book provides a deeper understanding of the history and technique surrounding reed-making craft and instruction.

What if you could hear a Beethoven masterpiece performed by none other than the legendary composer himself? Just what did he mean when he wrote one piece expressly for a mysterious person named Elise? The answer may just make you look at the artist in an entirely new light. Time With Elise: A piano student's time travel into the life of Beethoven is the wildly imaginative, heartfelt novel by Christina Schilling that recreates the days of the venerated composer through the vantage of a modern-day piano student. Annalisa Helfing, who is known as Elise, has a sudden accident, and soon finds that her life changes in ways that she could never have dreamed possible. She wakes up in a convent in the year 1802, and learns quickly that her ways differ greatly from the women there. Life soon goes from increasingly curious to utterly incomprehensible when Elise is sent by the nuns to work as a housekeeper for musician Ludwig van Beethoven. As she discovers the composer's own struggles as an artist, Elise embraces the real meaning of artistic commitment, and what it means to truly hear the music.
...] == 1 Kracht, Christian: Faserland, M nchen 102009. 2 Borth, Marco: Christian Krachts Faserland an den Grenzen der Erlebnisgesellschaft, In: Bauschmidt, Suse/B hr, Christine/ Lenz, Thomas/Ruf, Oliver (Hrsg.): berfluss und berschreitung. This self-study research uses narrative inquiry and stories of experience to establish a format for understanding the creative process and the human dimension connected with teaching and learning. To me, true education allows us to grow within ourselves. By revisiting my past experiences in education, I am energized with fresh perspective and theoretical context, and I know that I am capable of determining moral direction in what I do as teacher in the classroom. Self-study research has helped me revitalize my being, and restore my sense of self. To embark on such a journey demands consciousness and commitment, for looking in the mirror holds no simple answer. Complexities are vast. The education system can, at times, be overwhelming and unforgivingly sterile, offering little opportunity to nurture the self as a teacher, or to nurture students as unique individuals. I hope that my self-study research can be of value to students and colleagues who, like me, may be struggling within a structured system to find value and meaning in developing their personal voice and creative expressiveness as the core of their educational experience.
