Poverty and Development: Evangelical Christian Response to Poverty in the Philippines
Are you concerned about the problem of poverty in the world? Do you want to do something about it? This book is for you Dirty slums, beggars on the street, children with swollen tummies, barren fields, no electricity, no running water, and no toilet are visible signs of poverty, but there are other forms of poverty that are not seen right away. Understanding the underlying causes of poverty is the single most important thing in responding to poverty. Evangelical Christians have been actively involved in poverty alleviation in the Philippines for a long time. However, the persistence of poverty shows that there is so much more to be done. This book provides insights from the perspective of both parties, development practitioners and poor people, in order to clarify and solidify evangelical christian response to poverty.

Aims To some, the field of neurogenetics appears perplexing and indecipherable. In this volume, we will address this issue by providing clinicians with a framework for dealing with these disorders. This book is not intended to be an in-depth, comprehensive review of all neurogenetic conditions from 'A to Z'. Instead, we will provide a concise discussion using case studies to illustrate the most important and topical neurogenetic disorders. This case-based approach will make the book easy to reference, clinically relevant, approachable, and, we feel, more interesting. Scope The contribution of genetics to many neurological diseases is becoming increasingly apparent, and so it is imperative to stay up-to-date with these conditions. The 31 chapters in this volume cover a wide range of inherited conditions including forms of dystonia, Parkinson disease, spastic paraplegias, mitochondrial diseases, myopathies, neuropathies, and much more. Particular attention is paid to practical issues regarding how to make a genetic diagnosis and how to counsel the family. We will also address some contemporary issues in neurogenetics, such as the impact of direct-to-consumer genetic testing. General Approach In keeping with the WDIDN series, each chapter commences with a brief case study, which will be used as an example of an important condition in neurogenetics. The discussion will then be centered on the case, with a focus on crucial issues regarding the clinical assessment, investigations and management of these conditions. Key clinical points will be listed at the end of the chapter, along with a list of suggested further reading. All case studies in this book are based on real patients seen by the authors or their colleagues.

This report helps inform strategies to recruit women through the results of focus groups with recent recruits and recruiters. We recommend that resources be set aside to specifically target outreach to women, that the services increase the proportion of recruiters who are women and increase their visibility at recruiting events, and that the services work to reduce administrative burdens on recruiters and recruits.

Single Best Answer (SBA) examinations are an increasingly popular means of testing medical students and those undertaking postgraduate qualifications in a number of subject areas. Written by a final year medical student, junior doctors and experienced clinicians, 500 Single Best Answers in Medicine provides invaluable guidance from authors who understand from personal experience that detailed and accurate explanations are the key to successful revision. This book presents 500 SBA-style questions arranged by specialty area as well as a practice exam of random questions. A clear discussion of how the correct answer was reached and other options ruled out for every question is given at the end of each section, making this book an excellent learning aid during all stages of clinical studies, and particularly while preparing for medical finals.

This book concentrates on the epidemiology of corruption and disease transmission as a saturable interaction as well as case studies of infectious diseases of global public health concern, namely drug resistant TB, influenza and malaria. It gives the students and researchers in related areas ample information on disease epidemiology and transmission dynamics, and well-elaborated mathematics useful in analysing the proposed models. Great emphasis is not only placed on describing the models, but also on analysing and bringing out results of great epidemiological meaning for public health control and planning.

Networking is one of the core tasks of enterprise-level programming, and for the programmer familiar with the C# language this book should provide the information to put network programming at the heart of their .NET applications. Prior knowledge of network programming is not assumed, but the reader already familiar with networking from another environment will find the pace quick enough for the book to still prove valuable. This book should give the reader: an understanding of the general concepts of networking; information about network programming in .NET with C#; skills to build network-based applications in .NET; and the confidence to use the classes shipped with .NET to implement your own application-level protocols. The book begins with an overview of the most important background material, such as the architecture of physical networks, network protocols, the OSI model, streams in .NET, and the classes provided to facilitate access to streams such as StreamReader and StreamWriter. Then it moves onto sockets programming, with an introduction to the concept of sockets, and full coverage of using sockets in .NET. It looks at TCP, UDP, and using multicast sockets in .NET and at application-level protocols built on top of these layers, such as SMTP and FTP. The next stop is Internet programming, with a look at HTTP, the underlying protocol of the Internet, and e-mail protocols. The book finishes with an exploration of how to secure network communications in .NET - encrypting network traffic, certificates and SSL, authenticating and authorizing users with NTLM and Kerberos. Assumes knowledge of: .NET Framework, C#, Networking, IP, TCP, UDP, HTTP, FTP, POP3, IMAP, SMTP, NNTP Ur innehållet: Networking Concepts and Protocols.- IP Version 6.- Streams in .NET.- Network Programming in .NET.- Working with Sockets.- Raw Sockets.- TCP.- UDP.- Multicast Sockets.- HTTP.- E-mail Protocols.- Cryptography in .NET.- Authentication Protocols.

Christian Love

Bernard Brady has given us a rare, delightful, and thought-provoking book - a volume that belongs on the desk or the bed-stand of anyone in search of the rich and varied dimensions of Christian love. Christians are taught that God is love and are commanded to love, their neighbours and their enemies. These truths are not controversial. What is controversial and, indeed, has been controversial throughout the history of Christianity is the meaning of this love. This book explores the tradition of Christian reflection on the meaning, and experience of love, loving, and being loved. Many books have been written about Christian love, but no book has gathered together this kind of primary source material and covered such a wide range of perspectives, allowing the reader to engage directly with the thought and experience of some of the greatest Christian minds on the topic of love. Bernard Brady covers with remarkable clarity the breadth and depth of discussions on Christian love from the Bible to contemporary experience to create this-a survey of how Christians through the ages have understood love. Beginning of course with the Bible, Brady examines the key writings and thinkers on the nature of Christian love: St. Augustine; mystics such as Bernard of Clairvaux, Hadewich, and Julian of Norwich; the great tradition and literature of courtly love, Thomas Aquinas, Martin Luther, Soren Kierkegaard, and others. In addition, Brady devotes chapters to several 20th century figures whose lives seemingly embodied Christian love: Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Pope John Paul II. Finally, Christian Love addresses contemporary deliberations over the meaning of love with an analysis of the modern writings of Martin D'Arcy, Reinhold Niebuhr, Jules Toner, Gustavo Gutierrez, Gene Outka, Margaret Farley, Edward Vacek, and Don Browning. In a synthesizing concluding chapter, Brady offers his own insightful and introspective understanding of the substance of Christian love, suggesting that it is an affective affirmation of another, that it is both responsive and unitive, and that it is steadfast and enduring. As a beautiful contemplative companion to one's own spiritual understanding, or as a thoughtful and meaningful gift, Christian Love is in every sense a treasure to behold, read, and share with those you love.
