Trotzdem sind weibliche Charaktere ein fester Bestandteil in Hartmanns Werken und spielen auch eine tragende Rolle. Die Epen Hartmanns verlaufen immer nach einem hnlichen Muster. Der Held f llt durch sein schuldhaftes Leben von der erlangten Scheinh he auf einen Tiefpunkt. An diesem muss er durch Umorientierung und Selbstfindung zu einer neuen Lebenseinstellung gelangen, um der ihm von Gott vorgesehene Position gerecht zu werden. Hartmann verdeutlicht, dass die erfolgreiche Suche nach sich selbst "nur in der Selbstaufgabe, in der Beziehung m glich ist." Die Beziehung zwischen Mann und Frau ist f r den Reifeprozess des Helden daher von zentraler Bedeutung. In den Artusromanen und im "Gregorius" stellt eine Frau die "Initialz ndung" f r die weitere Handlung dar. Die Scheinh he ist erreicht, wenn erstmals erfolgreich um die Frau geworben wurde. Der "Arme Heinrich" f llt aus diesem Schema heraus, denn der Held trifft erst nach seinem Fall, der Erkrankung am Aussatz, auf die Meierstochter. Erst durch das aufopferungsvolle Verhalten der Heldin ist es Heinrich m glich, die Erkrankung zu berwinden und sich als neu legitimierter Herrscher zu installieren. Im Vergleich zu den Frauengestalten in den anderen Werken Hartmanns ist die Meierstochter der Figur der Enite aus dem "Erec" am hnlichsten. Beide sind zu Beginn Jungfrauen, "noch unter dem Schutz des Vaters stehend" und greifen erst in der Mitte der Handlung aktiv in das Geschehen ein.
