The field of communications is increasingly recognized as a powerful tool in addressing the world’s most imperative public health challenges. Effective communication in health campaigns can inform, empower, or persuade individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles as well as foster public debate and policy change. Featuring a full chapter on informatics, this book is devoted to the competencies in health communication and informatics recommended by the Association of Schools of Public Health. With chapter contributions from some of the leading experts in public health informatics and epidemiology, health communication and evaluation, Essentials of Public Health Communications introduces concepts and examples that will prepare students to enter a local health department, community organization or government agency, and contribute to health communication research, patient counseling, materials design, program management and media relations. Written specifically for student use, this book presumes no prior knowledge of the health communication or the informatics fields. Concepts are presented in clear, jargon free language, with terms defined throughout. Key Features: • Rather than simply presenting theories and cases, this text emphasizes the framework and methods, breaking down complex tasks into steps for mastery. • Simplifies key concepts in public health informatics, and how data are transformed into useful information and effective presentations. • Examines how health communication is actively being used by the leading public health agencies and organizations today. • A companion website provides a complete package of instructor resources including sample syllabi and curriculum guides for two semesters of instruction, as well as small scale research projects. • Includes suggested health communication projects that can be implemented at an academic institution, or small scale community level, to enable hands-on learning. Looking for more real-life evidence? Check out Cases 1, 5, 6, 10, 15, 16, & 18-21 in Essential Case Studies in Public Health, Putting Public Health into Practice.

Although I never had any formal education in art and writing poetry, I have always loved to do artwork and have enjoyed writing poetry for about 17 years. The poetry and art in this book is my most recent work and also includes revisions of some of my older poetry. A lot of my work has allusions to nature and also expresses my inner self, and how I cope with the more difficult times as well as the positive experiences in my life.

New college instructors often are advised, coached, and mentored by department professors who may not have scheduled class time to meet regularly with their novice educators. This book meets many of the principles outlined in the position statements of the Conference on College Composition and Communications and the Council of Writing Program Administrators. The pedagogical stances on which PWP lessons here are based will support the work of the college supervisors.Graduate teaching assistants and new instructors may not know what questions to ask about lesson planning, grading, and classroom management. Some may be teaching in culturally and experientially diverse settings unfamiliar to them. This mentoring handbook describes, but not prescribes, methods, materials, and management strategies that can help maintain morale during that critical first year as a college instructor.

This book is a Module in the Theology as a Second Language Curriculum. This particular project was funded with a grant from the Louisville Institute to make it available to the larger faith community, but it started in a local church, namely, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Owensboro. This is a 6-session module/book intended to form Ambassadors by teaching skills in group theological reflection, ethics for spiritual conversations, and basic knowledge of the issues of Interfaith Work. It presumes participants already have some knowledge of Traditions other than their own and focuses on their personal formation and skills. The back story: Our Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Owensboro, KY decided to engage our Theological Diversity with great deliberateness about ten years ago. We use this schema to describe what has grown from our work: EXPERT: One who knows his/her root tradition and current practice deeply. We expect this of our members and offer ways to strengthen it.MENTOR: One who helps another sort through theological and spiritual issues-in the Other's language and theology. This requires some theological flexibility outside one's own practice and experience. AMBASSADOR: One who can facilitate interfaith dialogue (on a small scale) outside the Congregation. This requires awareness of other theologies and larger interfaith issues-especially what one is not equipped to do The special focus of this volume is the role of the Ambassador.

The poems in this book are mostly recent, although some of them were written over the period of the past ten years. All of the artwork in this book, Thought Broadcasting, is current. The artwork displays the different skills I have as an artist, which are painting, drawing, decoupage, collage, photography, and digital artwork.Creativity and self-expression has helped me to find a life for myself that I enjoy and can share with others. My artwork has been exhibited in galleries and have been sold.I hope that through reading my works, people can learn how creativity can bring joy to one's heart, soul, and spirits and also to the lives of others.I have published three other books, which are Take Five Seroquel and Call Me in the Morning, Far Out, and Time Lapse.
