After thirteen years, Julia Mallory is a little bored with her job as a commercial lender in a large bank. Cranky customers, tedious staff meetings, and a secretary who thinks she's in charge of the department strain her good nature. Add in a copy machine that won't stay fixed and innumerable staff wedding, baby or birthday showers, and Julia is in sore need of a diversion. When she investigates what seems to be a simple accounting error, she thinks maybe she's found something to break the routine. Her curiosity leads her into some interesting places - city government offices; snarled accounting records; meetings that, for a change, don't bore her; neighborhoods with buildings that aren't all they're supposed to be. Her circle of acquaintances also increases. She adds a pompous city official and a suave do-gooder to the list. All in all, things seem to have brightened up. As she follows the clues she digs up, she learns that maybe the dull office routine had its compensations. Still, Julia sees an interesting side to every situation she finds herself in, and the thought of letting sleeping dogs lie goes against her nature. When she finally straightens out the tangle, the results surprise her, in more ways than one. This is a reissuance of this book, originally written in 2000.

A book of short poems based on haiku, tanka, and shadorma forms, as well as snippets (collage poetry put together from cut-out printed words or phrases, each poem three lines long. Subject matter - anything that strikes me - and I don't really care if I veer off the traditional themes and rules for haiku and tanka. I enjoy writing within a prescribed syllable format and a tight structure keeps the thoughts from straying from the point. I find everyday life fascinating and I'm a collector of the daily experiences happening all around me, picking through them and writing them down with my pen in a little notebook. I think there is something important in every moment of the day and I'm hoping to catch some of it in these short poems.
Poetry written about everyday life in the suburbs of a big city. Observations of a housewife and artist who enjoys mowing the lawn, walking through the nature preserve, cooking dinner, and reading. Humor and kindness mixed in with her words. Life is a quirky journey. The ordinary is extraordinary.

A collection of very short poems with some bite to them. Suburbia is their setting. Author Claudia McGill is a lifelong resident of the suburbs and that's what she writes about. It's a fascinating place if you take the time to look into things, and she makes it her business to do just that.
A poetry collection about everyday life in an ordinary life - trucks, birds, family vacations, kitchens, people who talk in the library, rain - written by a life-long resident of suburbia who thinks it's a fascinating place to observe and to live.
