Butterfly Moments: A Composers Journey to Spiritual Enlightenment
... woke me up in the waiting room and told me Denise wanted to see me. My baby was awake She had come back to us and was on her way to recovery. The next day I learned that Denise did go to the peaceful place. As she weakly spoke of her mystical journey, she seemed transformed and she spoke with beautiful wisdom. I was in complete awe of the saintly words flowing from her mouth. Denise had seen what she refers to as "A golden light outlined with a deep blue." I asked her, "Is there a reason we are here?" She answered, "Yes Mommy. We are here to experience life. It comes with both pain and happiness."Denise revealed to me that she tried to go into the tunnel of light, but they wouldn't let her in. She said they kept saying, "Go to your Mommy." Later she told me, "If it's not your time, it's not your time and they send you back." Denise says that the loving, golden light of God is everywhere. "People just can't see it. I can... if I close my eyes I can see the light anytime I want. Now I know the big picture." As she spoke of her near death experience I thought, "What an honor it is to be your mother "Life is an adventure that we choose at the soulful level. It is our contract with God. All of us have a divine purpose and all of us are equally important. Life is about rediscovering who we are. We are all students and we are all teachers. My children have been my greatest teachers. My journey in this lifetime has been experienced as a musician/composer. My purpose is to assist in awakening the spirit with music. I perform my compositions from a place I refer to as the Source of Love. Denise told me later that she could hear my piano recordings from "the other side". Denise said that hearing the music, gave her a path back to life and she could hear it playing as she regained consciousness. This incident with my daughter occurred after Butterfly Moments was written. It was from the lessons that I am about to share with you that I was able to witness the whole event, of almost losing my precious daughter, with my spiritual eyes. I replaced my fear with God. I replaced my fear with Love. Each one of us has a divine purpose. We are never alone. I repeat... we are never alone A small, delicate, orange and black butterfly taught me this lesson on a beautiful September morning, while I was having an inquisitive conversation with God. This was a major turning point in my awareness of the divine that dwells within all of us. I began to recognize that Butterfly Moments happen every day. I hope that in writing what I have come to know, you will better recognize these quiet, beautiful moments that occur every day in your life. It took some courage to share some of my stories but it is worth it if I can pass some of what I have learned in a way that it might make a difference. My story was written to share with you with Love.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL SHEET MUSIC FOR PIANOTable of ContentsA Mother's Heart This melody is an expression of my intimate understanding of motherhood. I wrote it in the spirit of my grandmother, Tita.Autumn Equinox I wrote this piece one morning in October, while watching brilliant, colored leaves fall to the ground. Encantada is the Spanish word for enchanted. The beauty of the ocean inspired this composition. Like a beautiful woman, her cycles are determined by sister moon and her depth holds mysterious secrets known only to her heart.Fiona's Dream Fiona's Dream, was inspired by a fictional character in Morgan Llewelyn's, Lion of Ireland, the story of Brian Boru. In the book Fiona was a woman from the old religion who held magical powers. It is dedicated to the quiet strength of all women.Quiet Journey This melody is an invitation for you to go on a peaceful journey within your mind. Remember that everyday has the potential of unlimited possibilities First Light of Dawn Every day brings a fresh, new beginning and there is always the unlimited potential for anything to happen. The brilliant colors of the dawn are like fire in the sky and the beauty seems to hold a soft powerful energy. I get a secure feeling that says, "life goes on" as I watch the darkness fade away and the brilliant sun shine through, to light the new day. Great Glen As I wrote this piece, I imagined myself on the Highlands of Scotland. I saw a young beautiful lass singing as she gathered wild flowers on the hillside. A young man sitting on a white steed was watching her from his view on the hill. His heart was full as he looked upon the fair maiden. The magic of imagination can take you to any time or place. Kincora As I created this piece, I imagined myself in the 11th century, as a lady in the king's court, celebrating with dining and dancing within the stonewalls of Kincora, as the Shannon River flowed nearby, singing her song.Sagesse Sagesse is the French word for "wisdom". Old things are beautiful because they seem to possess a quiet knowing. Sedona Native Americans think of Sedona, Arizona as a place of magical power. Its beautiful desert landscape is decorated with deep reds and rich earth colors, giving it a spiritual ambience. Many people visit Sedona in the search of spiritual enlightenment and healing. It is one the most beautiful places I have ever seen on earth.Serena Serena is the Latin word for serenity. Is there a place you know that when you are there you feel a soft sense of peace and tranquility? Maybe it's a memory from your childhood. I invite you to go there in your mind as you play this melody. The Emerald Valley page 60When I think of the Misty Isles I cannot help but envision a deep color of emerald green. I am in awe of nature when I witness the view of a beautiful green valley from the mountains above. Green is the color of the earth's abundance and all the gifts she gives. The Shannon The Shannon is the main river that flows through Ireland. The ancient Celts threw their treasures in rivers as a gift of thanksgiving for nurturing their crops. An old Irish lullaby is woven into the arrangement because I think of rivers as singing a song of peace.Vernal Equinox The Vernal equinox is the day that marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. It is an exciting and beautiful time of year as the dormant awakes into pastels and deep greens and the creative cycle of life renews itself once again. Santiago This composition is a tribute to the "Santiago," also known as the El Camino, a road known as a spiritual pilgrimage in the countryside of Spain. For hundreds of years, walk the Santiago to closer connect with God.

A 40 page full color picture book for children that tells the story of Sor Maria de Jesus de greda known to the Jumanos as the "Lady in Blue." Sor Maria was given the spiritual gift of bilocation. Because of this she was able to minister to the indigenous people of the New World and learn their spiritual customs. You will find the book enchanting as well as fascinating. Here is a sample: Little Tula was playing with her doll when she suddenly felt a warmth rush over her heart. Jesus once said that when we look at the world through the eyes of a child we can see the kingdom of heaven. Tula could feel the love that was coming to her. She could feel the love of Maria and the love of God. She looked towards the bluff where earlier that day she had learned about the paintings from her mother. Tula, the little Jumano child pure in spirit, was the first to see the beautiful lady in blue. Available on Kindle

In Nashville they call it "The Number System." Easy to understand, this book will have you immediately composing your own tunes and arranging simple ways to accompany any song you want to play or sing. In fact, I know a girl who joined a band after practicing these short lessons after only two weeks. The Nashville number system was created for studio musicians to easily transcribe songs into different keys depending on the vocal range of the singer. MUSIC IS NUMBERS will show you how to create different harmonic sound combinations. It's as easy as mixing yellow and blue paint to create the color green. Here is a copy of the letter inside the book. Dear Friend, I have developed this easy program to teach the simple mechanics of music. We live in a 3 dimensional world measured by numbers. Music is also 3 dimensional and measured with numbers. Timing is dictated by the space in between the notes. It is the rhythm that evokes the emotion of the music just like breath, the beating of our hearts and the waves breaking on the sand. Music is the universal language that speaks to all living things. There is evidence that plants grow healthier when exposed to music. Some farmers have been known to put speakers in their fields to play symphonies for their crops. Many times when I play the piano, small animals will come on my porch to be entertained. A lullaby will calm a baby and put it to sleep. Even the earth sings as she soars through the solar system spinning on her axis. Our world is full of music. I often use the sounds of nature when I write music. The birds sing, the waves move, the stream babbles and the wind whistles. I actually wrote a different melody for each season. I was inspired by leaves falling in the autumn, cold wind and snow blowing in the winter, the beauty and renaissance of spring and the warmth and playfulness of summer. After taking this course you will have the basic tools to create your own compositions. Like an artist with a blank canvas and colorful paints, you will also be able to create a unique style of playing that belongs only to you. To learn more visit me at cynthiamusic.com Have fun Cynthia

For thousands of years mandalas have been used for expressing spirituality by cultures all over the world. The circle represents the universe and the geometric designs life itself. Coloring them can help bring order and tranquility to the mind when challenges abound. I like to think of a mandala as an orchestra. The shapes are the various instruments and the music happens when you fill them in with color.Coloring these mandalas have been used in therapy sessions, retreats and holistic environments world wide. The book is a wonderful gift for anyone going through a stressful time, the elderly or anyone restricted to bed rest. They seem to bring a sense of order to the chaos. The haikus are a form of Japanese poetry... short and sweet.I created these for our Grannie when she was unable to get out of bed. They were made with love and she really enjoyed them. I hope they do the same for you.

"Gardens and Neighbors will provide an important building block in the growing body of literature on the ways that Roman law, Roman society, and the economic concerns of the Romans jointly functioned in the real world."---Michael Peachin, New York UniversityAs is increasingly true today, fresh water in ancient Italy was a limited resource, made all the more precious by the Roman world's reliance on agriculture as its primary source of wealth. From estate to estate, the availability of water varied, in many cases forcing farmers in need of access to resort to the law. In Gardens and Neighbors: Private Water Rights in Roman Italy, Cynthia Bannon explores the uses of the law in controlling local water supplies. She investigates numerous issues critical to rural communities and the Roman economy. Her examination of the relationship between farmers and the land helps draw out an understanding of Roman attitudes toward the exploitation and conservation of natural resources and builds an understanding of law in daily Roman life.An editor of the series Law and Society in the Ancient World, Cynthia Jordan Bannon is also Associate Professor of Classical Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. Her previous book was The Brothers of Romulus: Fraternal Pietas in Roman Law, Literature, and Society (1997).
