Tonight, the party continues with a sleepover birthday party at my Aunt's mansion (Since my parents are serving in the marines, I am living with my Aunt) with my best friends, some of our good friends from church, and some of my good friends from my homeschool group. Nick agreed to spin records at their annual gathering. But, on the night of the dance, delight soon turned to horror, when the students of the area high schools, dressed in weird costumes, came together, expecting to mingle and dance and have fun. Beloved former child actor Michael Fishman details his versatile life since his Roseanne success, from becoming a youth baseball coach to bounty hunting, then returning to the screen for The Conners all before the age of forty in his debut memoir. Everyone knew him as America's favorite little brother, D.J. Conner. Now, Michael Fishman finally tells his own story. From his improbable discovery to becoming a household name on Roseanne, Fishman's journey was far from ordinary. A middle-class kid and the son of an immigrant, with no Hollywood connections, Fishman defied the odds, and captured the hearts of millions. But behind the laughter, he faced the harsh realities of childhood stardom--public scrutiny, industry pressures, and the fallout from controversies like the National Anthem incident and the tweets that led to the reboot's sudden end. Through it all, he prevailed while navigating the weight of fame, a brief period of homelessness, and the uncertainty of life beyond the spotlight. But he refused to fade. Instead, he rose from the ashes--reinventing himself as an actor, director, and advocate, proving that setbacks can fuel transformation. In D.J. Find Your Light, Fishman shares the raw, behind-the-scenes moments that shaped him, the hardships that nearly broke him, and the lessons that helped him rebuild. With brutal honesty, humor, and heartfelt wisdom, he delivers more than a Hollywood memoir--it's a blueprint for resilience, reinvention, and finding strength in life's darkest moments. Whether you're a Roseanne fan, an entertainment lover, or someone searching for your own path, this book will inspire you to rise, reclaim your story, and find your own light. Because sometimes, the brightest light comes from learning to stand on your own.

Breece D'J Pancake cut short a remarkably promising career when he took his own life in 1979 at the age of 26. In 1983 Little, Brown and Company's posthumous publication of this book-a collection of stories that depict, with astonishing power and grace, the world of Pancake's native rural West Virginia-electrified the literary world with a force that still resounds across two decades. The Stories of Breece D'J Pancake has remained continuously in print, and Back Bay Books takes pride in now making the collection available in this new trade paperback edition.Author Biography: Breece D'J Pancake was born in West Virginia in 1952. v(D)J recombination: for the community of immunologists and developmental biologists, the molecular route by which B and T lymphocytes acquire their unique function of affording adaptive immunity. Yet, for many-from experienced scientists to trainees-it represents a (rather too) sophisticated process whose true insight is excessively demanding. However, when not simplyconsidered as a private ground for a few aficionados, it can be seen as a way of understanding how maturelympho cytes carry on their basic functions. For the group of aficionados-which includes this editor-it is an elegant paradigm featuring many fascinating evolutionary achievements of which the biological world alone has the secret. These include a subtle biochemical principle most likelyhijacked some 470 million years ago from an ancestral gene invader and since then cleverly adapted by jawed vertebrates to precisely cleave and rearrange their antigen receptor (Ig andTCR)loci. This invader would itself have assigned the services of the nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) DNArepair machinery as well as various DNApolymerases or transferases to work in concert with developmental clues in lymphoid cell lineages to generate an immune repertoire and efficient host surveillance while avoiding autoimmunity. Recently, important new refinements in these systems have emerged, continuing to challenge ourknowledge andbeliefs. These arejust thetopics covered by the senior authors-all established leaders in this field-and their colleagues, whilst writing the various chapters in V(D)J Recombination.

The Collected Breece d'j Pancake: Stories, Fragments, Letters
A definitive edition of the haunted and haunting stories of the legendary West Virginia writer, with rare unfinished stories and fragments and revealing letters Breece D'J Pancake published only a handful of stories before he took his own life in 1979, just shy of his twenty-seventh birthday. Those stories and a small number of others found among his papers after his death comprise the remarkable posthumous collection The Stories of Breece D'J Pancake (1983), recognized at the time as "an American Dubliners" (Jayne Anne Phillips) and a collection by a "young writer of such extraordinary gifts that one is tempted to compare his debut to Hemingway's" (Joyce Carol Oates). Kurt Vonnegut called him "merely the best writer, the most sincere writer I've ever read." Today his diverse admirers include Margaret Atwood, Andre Dubus III, Tom Waits, and Lorde. The Collected Breece D'J Pancake brings together the original landmark book, several story drafts and fragments, and a selection of Pancake's letters to offer an unprecedented picture of his life and art. Among the unfinished stories are fragments from Pancake's two planned novels. The letters document his relationship with writers such as Peter Taylor, John Casey, James Alan McPherson, and Mary Lee Settle, and offer a picture of his collaborative relationship with his mother, who sent him newspaper clippings and helped him research his stories. "Pancake's stories are the only stories written in just this way," Jayne Anne Phillips writes in her introduction, "from inside the minds of protagonists coming of age in the mountains of an Appalachian world closed to others." At once beautiful and relentlessly bleak, the stories concern miners, truckers, farmers, waitresses, and others facing constricted economic and life prospects. In one way or another, his characters are stuck, hoping for a change in fortune they can neither relinquish nor quite bring themselves to believe in, the land and the past making equally strong claims on their darkening present.
