The year is 2155, and Paul Rose has a very successful business. His business partner, on the other hand, is a little unconventional. DeDe is an artificially intelligent computer, but she is more like a friend to Paul. DeDe helps him streamline his life and complete his work locating apocalyptic cults and dangerous individuals that aren't yet on the government's radar. Paul and DeDe may spend the day searching for cults, but a cult is also searching for them. The members of the Guild believe the end of the world is near, and they also believe that Paul and DeDe collectively pose a threat to their plans. When the two partners get too close to the Guild's operations, the cult goes on the offensive, and the pair have to go on the run As Paul and DeDe try to adjust to life hiding from the cult, they both evolve in unexpected ways. Paul in particular must decide whether to embrace a new destiny or go back to his comfortable, normal life. With the help of their flying RV and their robot, Tinker, man and machine will have to work together to stop the world from ending.

The Bible, the most published, sold, given away, personally owned, outlawed, read, neglected, loved, hated, praised, despised, book ever to have existed. Esteemed as the very words of God, renounced as merely the work of men, cherished as truth, scorned as fable. The studies in this volume are written to let the Bible speak for itself to clear away all the contradictions and debates. It is a book written for the common man conveying the unleavened common faith. This book explains what each of us must bring to the study of God's word if we desire that it open itself to us. Further, it demonstrates how and why the Scriptures are written the way they are. The Bible contains all that God has done, is doing, and will do. "Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." Amos 3:7 The greatest indignity perpetrated against our Creator is not to seek to know and understand Him. Join me on a guided tour of God's word.
In this thought-provoking book, D. Paul Schafer makes the case that Canada possesses the potential to play a crucial role in the world. After taking stock of the country's history, geography, and two of its greatest assets-creativity and diversity-he sets his sights on the rapidly-changing global and Canadian landscape. Schafer contends that by applying a cultural and chronological approach to Canadian development and focusing attention on the public sector and the responsibilities of governments and especially the federal government, it will be possible to achieve sustainable development, improve the well-being of Canadians and people in other parts of the world, and realize Wilfrid Laurier's famous prediction that a century will "belong to Canada"--albeit the twenty-first century rather than the twentieth. Schafer ends the book with a rallying cry for all Canadians--"It's time to lead "
With the many dynamic changes going on in today's world, a new prototype of the human personality is needed to guide people's future actions, behaviour, lifestyles, and overall development. This new prototype is the cultural personality. It is grounded in the belief that people should be holistic, centred, creative, altruistic, and humane if they are to achieve more happiness, fulfillment, and spirituality in their own lives as well as live in harmony with other people, cultures, species, and the natural environment as a whole. In this enlightening book, author D. Paul Schafer explores the background, ramifications, and promise of this exciting new personality concept. In Chapter One, an assessment is made of the context within which people find themselves in the world today. In Chapter Two, the cultural personality is examined as a concept, largely by juxtaposing the two interdependent concepts of "culture" and "personality." In Chapter Three, the main characteristics of the cultural personality are revealed. In Chapter Four, the cultivation of the qualities and abilities that are most required to constitute the cultural personality are provided. And in Chapter Five, attention is given to the way the cultural personality can function most effectively in the world in practical terms."The Cultural Personality by Paul Schafer is a pioneering work and potent read. In our current times of an emerging planetary consciousness, intense interfusion of cultures, a collective quest for belonging, juxtaposed with cultural deterioration, lack of personal and shared meaning, widespread confusion and disorientation, Schafer's concept of] the cultural personality offers a highly relevant compass for our individual and collective lives to propel us into a culturally rich and meaningful future. Schafer's book beautifully combines personal development and societal renewal. What I found particularly helpful, is that the author - seemingly a 'practitioner of a deeply felt global humanism' - did not stop by laying out the context, concept and characteristics of the cultural personality, but also explains how its cultivation and conduct can be brought about. He thereby offers simultaneously a language and a practice for a much needed cultural evolution of humanity. In short, I regard the articulation of the cultural personality by Paul Schafer of vital importance. I strongly recommend this brief, succinct read for anyone participating in or seeking to contribute to the urgent cultural revitalization of our societies and of humanity as a global community." -- Prof. Alexander Schieffer, co-Founder, TRANS4M Center for Integral Development, Geneva, Switzerland and Hotonnes, France; series co-editor, Routledge Transformation and Innovation Series
In this exciting book, noted cultural scholar and arts advocate D. Paul Schafer examines the powerful role the arts can play, both in helping individuals live more fulfilling lives and in allowing humanity as a whole to enter a new and dynamic period in its history-what Schafer calls a "cultural age." Indeed, it is only by moving through that gateway that humanity will be able to overcome the enormous challenges confronting it today. Schafer surveys new research showing how participation in the arts can help people cope with various illnesses and diseases, come to grips with old age and the final years of life, deal with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and racial conflicts, and overcome anxiety, apprehension, and depression brought on by lack of human contact, job losses, and uncertainties about the future. In the author's view, a new era is opening up-an era in which the arts will soar to new heights, broadening and deepening our collective knowledge and understanding of culture and all the diverse cultures and civilizations in the world, allowing us to realize higher goals, objectives, and ideals for humanity, and yielding more caring, sharing, compassion, and cooperation in the world. Schafer sheds light on this crucial transformation by weaving together a number of articles he has written on the arts over the past several years, updating them in terms of present developments and future needs. The book begins with an examination of the arts as the foundation for life, and ends by considering why the transition to a cultural age is so essential, what it is designed to accomplish, and how it can be achieved."D. Paul Schafer is the sage we need today. He brings wisdom and guidance about how and why we must live a life filled with arts and culture. He clearly articulates the benefits of an arts-infused foundation for individuals, but also shares the profound positive implications to society when they are collectively valued and used. In one of the world's most uncertain and catastrophic moments, Schafer has fiercely penned a beautiful and deeply powerful path forward. Embracing humanity's most potent tools of aesthetics, culture and the arts, he weaves together the threads of social connection, identity, health, learning and well-being. The Arts: Gateway to a Fulfilling Life and Cultural Age is a love letter to the arts and cultures of the world, and importantly an instruction manual for all of her inhabitants. It will make you laugh and cry, reconnecting you to something perhaps missing in your life that you couldn't name-until now." -Susan Magsamen, Executive Director, International Arts + Mind Lab, Johns Hopkins University"The arts and culture are connectors, in good and troubled times, as seen with COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter, and are as essential to the changing global dynamic as they are nationally. D. Paul Schafer eloquently makes the case for the arts and culture in this accessible, articulate book. We ignore his insights at our peril." -The Honourable Patricia Bovey, FRSA, FCMA, Senator for Manitoba, Senate of Canada"Paul Schafer's books are much discussed among those of us who strive to use arts activities to drive sustainable positive change-within our lives, workplaces and communities. Paul's new book is sure to be of great interest for artists, arts organizations and policymakers ... at this crucial time and in the years to come." -Grant Hall, founder, League of Cultural Diplomacy
In this thought-provoking book, noted cultural scholar D. Paul Schafer makes the case for what he calls the world as culture --- a world in which culture is the central organizing principle of human civilization. For the past two and a half centuries, we have lived in a world in which economics and economic principles reign supreme. Although the world of economics is likely humanity's greatest achievement, Schafer argues that economics and its associated modes of thought is incapable of coming to grips with the enormous problems we face today. Humanity must move toward the world as culture, a world in which cultural modes of knowing and doing play a central role.Schafer considers the various manifestations of culture that have evolved over the centuries, painting a fascinating panorama unique to this book. Those manifestations include culture as cultivation of the soul, which originated with Roman statesman and scholar Marcus Cicero; culture as the arts, the humanities, and the heritage of history; culture in the context of personality development; the anthropological and sociological manifestations of culture; and, most recently, ecological, biological, and cosmological conceptions of culture.Culture's embrace of holism, its attention to the total pattern of human life, and its incorporation of artistic and humanistic modes of thought make it the ideal organizing principle for a brighter and more sustainable future. The author concludes by considering how the world as culture might be brought into existence in the years ahead.
In this remarkable book, noted cultural scholar D. Paul Schafer examines the great cultural awakening that is taking place all across the world---an awakening that is opening the doors to a cultural age. Schafer begins by considering the importance of culture, as well as discussing how culture has been defined by a variety of thinkers. He then turns to an examination of the vast constellation of cultures that exist in the world before moving progressively "up the ladder," from the cultures of individuals, children, parents, homes, families, communities, and schools to those of towns, cities, regions, countries, the entire human world, and finally the cultures of other species. This is followed by an assessment of several foundational requirements for the creation of a cultural age, such as the cultural interpretation of history and the centrality of cultural development and policy. The author concludes by discussing various ways of opening the doors to a cultural age, strategies to harmonize crucial relationships and cultivate spirituality and compassion, the prerequisites for living in a cultural age, and, finally, an exploration of why it is so essential to make the transition from the present economic age to a future cultural age.The Great Cultural Awakening represents the culmination of a lifetime of research, analysis, and advocacy in the cultural field. In the words of the reviewers, it is truly a "masterpiece" as well as a "beacon of light," urging us on toward a better future.ADVANCE PRAISE FROM AROUND THE WORLD FOR THE GREAT CULTURAL AWAKENINGAmazing Schafer chronicles the evolution of the cultural realm and describes the interwoven dimensions of nature, human beings, other species, cultures, time, and space. Reading this book is like seeing ourselves as part of nature rather than apart from nature, as well as imagining a world where harmony, sustainability, and well-being for all people, countries, and species are the ultimate goal. ---Mira Sartika, Founder and Director, Chakra Cultural Foundation, IndonesiaSchafer guides us with erudition, authority, and conviction toward a clear and positive vision of a cultural age. His inexhaustible range of references, depth of insight and analysis, and trust in what he terms "the great cultural awakening" make this book essential reading for everyone interested in a serious, far-ranging, and scrupulously-argued discussion of the vital need for the citizens of the world to come together to build a just, harmonious, and productive future: a new cultural age. ---Max Wyman, author of The Compassionate Imagination: How the Arts Are Central to a Functioning Democracy, CanadaCulture is much more than a dimension of sustainable development; it is the overarching key to a sustainable world. ---Engelbert Ruoss, USI Universit della Svizzera Italiana, and Co-Owner at Innoreg SAGL, SwitzerlandA much needed, comprehensive, and insightful map to find our way out of the global crisis and make the transition to a cultural age. Paul Schafer, an acknowledged expert in the field, offers an enlightening perspective on how to develop culture and cultures from the ground up, drawing on a wealth of inspiring references and compelling examples. ---Thomas Legrand, author of Politics of Being: Wisdom and Science for a New Development Paradigm, France
