This early work by David H. Keller was originally published in 1929 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography as part of our Cryptofiction Classics series. 'The Worm' is a short story about a giant worm that begins to eat a house and the occupant has to decide at what point to move out. David Henry Keller was born in Philadelphia in 1880. He studied neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine, graduating in 1903. He produced eleven novels and more than fifty short stories, as well as a body of poetry and some non-fiction. Most of his work is regarded as far more complex and literary than that of his contemporaries, thereby foreshadowing the science fiction 'golden age' of the mid-20th century.+The Cryptofiction Classics series contains a collection of wonderful stories from some of the greatest authors in the genre, including Ambrose Bierce, Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Jack London. From its roots in cryptozoology, this genre features bizarre, fantastical, and often terrifying tales of mythical and legendary creatures. Whether it be giant spiders, werewolves, lake monsters, or dinosaurs, the Cryptofiction Classics series offers a fantastic introduction to the world of weird creatures in fiction.

Armchair Fiction presents extra large paperback editions of classic science fiction double novels with original illustrations. The first novel, "The Metal Doom," is a grand sci-fi adventure by venerable sci-fi author, David H. Keller, M. D. Imagine a world without metal... When all the metal was gone, the civilized world ended. People like the Tublers and John Stafford started the slow rebuilding of society-a job made difficult enough by the lack of metal tools and weapons. But there were others trapped in the "new" stone age-roving bands of marauders who relished the new barbarism and whose only drive was to steal or destroy whatever ground the "builders" had regained This memorable science fiction classic is a sprawling tale of an Earth gone awry. It is a brilliant, thought-provoking novel that deals with a terrifying premise-the possibility that one day the civilized world might crumble from an incredible new "disease." A disease that could transform all of the world's metal into fine red rust The second novel, "Twelve Times Zero," is about a murderess from beyond Earth. It was the craziest story the cops had ever heard from anyone under a hard core police grilling. After all, who could believe that a strange dame came out of nowhere, clubbed two people to death, and then disappeared into a ball of blue light? Kirk knew there wasn't much chance he could beat the rap... It was a love-triangle murder that was splashed all over the headlines of the day. However, the real answer lay hundreds of thousands of light years away in this tremendous novel from sci-fi's golden age.

The book explores the history of atheism in a way that will help the reader understand why it is a bad idea not only on a personal basis but also on a societal basis.

Exploring Ancient Skies brings together the methods of archaeology and the insights of modern astronomy to explore the science of astronomy as it was practiced in various cultures prior to the invention of the telescope. The book reviews an enormous and growing body of literature on the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean, the Far East, and the New World (particularly Mesoamerica), putting the ancient astronomical materials into their archaeological and cultural contexts. The authors begin with an overview of the field and proceed to essential aspects of naked-eye astronomy, followed by an examination of specific cultures. The book concludes by taking into account the purposes of ancient astronomy: astrology, navigation, calendar regulation, and (not least) the understanding of our place and role in the universe. Skies are recreated to display critical events as they would have appeared to ancient observers--events such as the supernova of 1054 A.D., the "lion horoscope," and the Star of Bethlehem. Exploring Ancient Skies provides a comprehensive overview of the relationships between astronomy and other areas of human investigation. It will be useful as a reference for scholars and as a text for students in both astronomy and archaeology, and will be of compelling interest to readers who seek a broad understanding of our collective intellectual history.

Why is this New Testament different from all other New Testaments? Because the Jewish New Testament expresses its original and essential Jewishness. The New Testament is a Jewish book--by Jews, mostly about Jews, and for Jews as well as Gentiles. Its central figure, the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus), was and is a Jew.Vicarious atonement, salvation, immersion (baptism), the new covenant and the very concept of a Messiah are all Jewish. In sum, the New Testament is built upon and completes the Hebrew Scriptures. The Jewish New Testament brings out Jewishness in three ways: - Cosmetically--by using neutral terms and Hebrew names: "execution-stake," not "cross"; "Ya'akov," not "James." - Culturally and Religiously--by highlighting Jewish features: "Chanukkah," not "the feast of dedication"; "tzitzit," not "fringe." - Theologically--by correcting mistranslations resulting from anti-Jewish theological bias; for example, at Romans 10:4 the Messiah is "the goal at which the Torah aims," not "the end of the law." Freshly rendered from the original Greek into enjoyable modern English by a Messianic Jew (a Jew who honors Yeshua as the Messiah of Israel), the "Jewish New Testament" challenges Jews to understand that Yeshua is a friend to every Jewish heart and the New Testament a Jewish book filled with truths to be accepted and acted upon. At the same time, while reaffirming the equality of Gentiles and Jews in the Messianic Community, it challenges Christians to acknowledge the Jewishness of their faith and their oneness with the Jewish people.
