Torn by grief over the death of her fifteen-year-old daughter, Tak nsy, wife of trader Mariano Medina desperately tries to connect with her daughter's spirit-being. But before she can join her daughterin the Great Beyond, Tak nsy must re-live the horror of her early life by telling a story she has never told anyone else--her "great sin" as a young woman. Award-winning author David M. Jessup leads readers on a powerful journey through nineteenth-century clashes between Jesuit "blackrobes," mountain men and Indian tribes, while exploring the great mystery of what happens to our spirits after we die.
David M. Shoup was a heroic and decorated military hero. After having served stateside and in China during the 1920s and 1930s, Shoup quickly moved up the ranks upon the outset of the Second World War. For his bravery and leadership in the victory at Tarawa in the Pacific, Shoup was awarded the Medal of Honor. Following the war, Shoup continued his service, eventually being named Commandant of the Marine Corps. Yet, despite this clear dedication to his life-long career in the armed services, Shoup became a fervent and outspoken critic of the Vietnam War. His very public opinions won him the respect of protesters and the loathing of many fellow officers and friends. In this fascinating new biography, historian Howard Jablon chronicles the career of this soldier turned war protester.

The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. I have written my personal diary and autobiography in memory of my dear and departed mother, Mary Maxine Roome (maiden name). Even though I never had the pleasure of knowing her, I have been told that her greatest desire was to write her story. Since she wasnt able to achieve this, I am making an effort to gratify her desire by explaining how I came to be while honoring both my father, Galen Arthur La Touch, and my mother, Mary Maxine Roome, whom I surely would have loved so very much if I had been given the chance. From having been a ward of the courts and the State of Indiana upon my birth and being placed into foster homes, orphanage homes, including state mental institutions during my younger years, I experienced many frustrations of not knowing who or where was my natural family.

THERE WERE ONLY 3 MEN IN THE BIBLE GIVEN THE TITLE, SON OF DAVID. Solomon the heir to David's throne. Jesus the fulfillment to the covenant God made with David. And the third? Joseph, Jesus' father on earth. Why Joseph? Joseph was just a carpenter. Joseph was just an ordinary man. But God needed to draw out the king in Joseph so he could raise up the King of kings. God needed to draw out the king in Joseph so he could lead and serve his bride, Mary. Joseph's story is my story. It's your story. It's every man's story. God wants to draw out the king in every man to lead and serve his bride and to raise his children. Son of David will show you how a man who does not have a single recorded word in the Bible had a life that speaks volumes. Son of David will show you how to then allow the king in you to rise up so you too can become the noble, kingly, godly man God wants you to become.

A fascinating and unique story about David M. Renton, "DM", who was a well known builder of Craftsman homes and other structures in Pasadena, CA, and who later was General Manager of Santa Catalina Island, CA. The book is set in the dynamic history of rapidly growing southern California in the period between 1902 and 1936. Santa Catalina Island was purchased by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr. in 1919. During the succeeding years he and David Renton constructed much of what still exists on the island today including the world famous Casino, the Wrigley Mansion, the Wrigley Memorial and other important structures. In addition they dealt with silver mining, the filming of many big screen Hollywood movie productions, Catalina Pottery and Tile, 2,000 passenger steam ships, undersea garden trips, world class fishing, and much more. This is a unique riveting view of the Golden State at the beginning of the 20th Century.
