David Reuben Stone presents a modern defense of the existence of God. Two new arguments are presented: The Argument From The Laws Of Physics, and the Fine-Tuning Argument. The atheism of Richard Dawkins is refuted in great detail, as well as writings of the following atheistic authors: Quentin Smith, Michael Martin, William Rowe, Victor Stenger, Theodore Drange, J.L. Schellenberg, Nicholas Everitt, Michael Ikeda, Bill Jefferys, Theodore Schick Jr., Wesley C. Salmon, Walter Sinnott-Armstrong, Victor Cosculluela, Thomas Metcalf, and Bruce and Frances Martin. The defenses of atheism by these leading thinkers now stand thoroughly critiqued and in need of substantial revision. A must read for anyone interested in the existence of God. The defense of Hugh Ross's fine-tuning arguments against objections raised by Ikeda and Jefferys is, alone, worth the price of this book! The Save-Your-Life Diet: Proven protection from six of the most serious diseases of civilization
Best-selling author, David Reuben. M.D., tells you the one simple change you can make in your diet that will give you medically-proven protection against colon and rectal cancer, heart attacks, appendicitis, diverticulosis, hemorrhoids, constipation and other diseases of "civilization". This book guides you step-by-step in the easy and appetizing process of making your diet your shield against the disease. In this history-making explanation of the high-fiber diet, Dr. Reuben has brought good health and long life to millions of Americans. For decades Medical Science was puzzled by the fact that Black Africans seemed to be "immune" from cancer of the colon and heart attacks...and several other terrible diseases. They almost never came down with either of these 2 "killer diseases". Among Black Africans hardly anyone gets colon cancer...much less dies from it. But in the U.S. 140,000 people get colon cancer every year - and 50,000 of them die from it. Among Black Africans hardly anyone gets a heart attack...much less dies from it. Every year 720,000 Americans have a heart attack and 380,000 of them die. What's the difference? For centuries, no one knew. But about 50 years ago two brilliant English physicians made an amazing discovery. They realized that there was one tiny overlooked difference between the African diet and the American/European. One single apparently insignificant ingredient was sparing the lives of the Africans and killing millions of Americans and Europeans. That ingredient - with a cost so low it could hardly be measured - was dietary fiber Black Africans living in the villages consumed a diet with large amounts of "roughage" or dietary fiber. They ate things like beans, corn meal, bananas, potatoes, yams, etc. They ate very little meat and virtually no processed food. Their fiber intake was high. Americans and Europeans eat a lot of meat and few vegetables...and the food that should contain fiber like bread and rice, is over-refined and has most of the fiber taken out of it. Those are the bare details. But The Save-Your-Life-Diet takes over from there and explains in detail exactly the steps you can take to protect yourself and your family from deadly colon/rectal cancer as well as: Heart Attacks (Myocardial Infarcts) Blood clots in the legs spreading to the lungs (phlebitis to pulmonary embolism) Appendicitis Constipation Diverticular disease (diverticulosis and diverticulitis) Irritable bowel syndrome Hemorrhoids Varicose veins High levels of serum cholesterol Obesity High blood pressure The recommendations of The Save-Your-Life-Diet present the latest proven and confirmed scientific evidence in a simple easy-to-read, easy-to-apply manner that can give you and your family real protection from these terrible and deadly diseases. And the cost? About fifteen cents per day. This is the one book that can make a really and truly change your life - and the lives of your family -- for the better. By the time you finish reading it you will have a tremendous sense of relief and new power to prolong your life.

REUBEN ....I'd driven to Santa Ana from South Laguna to tell John Blackburn, a reporter from the Santa Ana Register, about two future forecasts I'd recently completed. I'd had a particularly intense dream and tried a rebuilt simplified set of equations without the earth tides that still eluded me. But I'd gotten two results that were very persuasive. It was February 5, 1971. Blackburn, smiled. "Reuben, you've got quite an impressive history here, Eighty-seven percent accuracy in '35, you said?" "I looked up the July 11, 1935 New York Times article," he added. "The writer, Lawrence, was pretty complimentary." I appreciated he did his homework, but I had mixed feelings about his comment. I feared he might have seen the August 1, 1935 Times Science Editor article, which was the opposite of complimentary.... "This is good work, Reuben," John said, "But these predictions are history. What about the future earthquakes you mentioned on the phone? That's what our readers want to know." I smiled. I had a hot one for him in Southern California, Magnitude 6.6 at 6:03 AM, in just four days, and a less imminent forecast, for January 1973 in San Francisco. That was the one that excited me, even though some of the computational results needed double-checking. It could be an accurate prediction of the "Big One." But boy, did I hit a home run on February 9, 1971-the Southern California Sylmar earthquake struck at 6:01 AM with Magnitude 6.7-it was only two minutes early ...

"I wish I had not had to write this book because then my lovely son Reuben would still be alive," says David Cohen. "He was adorable, formidably intelligent, a loving son, a loving brother. He died far too young. He had the bad luck to have two grandparents who had addictive personalities. His efforts to resist the lure of drugs failed. And so did I."The Book of My Son Reuben is a personal account of how psychologist David Cohen coped – and did not cope – with the death of his son, Reuben. Offering a unique perspective on the experience of parental loss, it offers a personal and analytical exploration of sorrow and guilt, and of what research tells us about trauma and grief. Illustrated throughout with David Cohen’s personal insight into how he continues to navigate his loss, this honest book provides a deeper understanding of loss for parents who have experienced it, as well as those who support them. The book remembers the many parents who have lost children throughout history and chapters weave personal perspectives with the latest research. It examines the experience of sudden deaths, the failures of society in preventing children from dying, the role of social media, how the loss of a child impacts fathers, siblings and relationships, and the usefulness – or otherwise – of bereavement therapies. A tribute to Reuben’s life, this sensitive volume is for those who have experienced loss and want to gain better understanding of their experience, as well as psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors working with families.

A Year with Mordecai Kaplan

A Year with Mordecai Kaplan

Steven Carr Reuben; David Teutsch

Jewish Publication Society
2019
pokkari
You are invited to spend a year with the inspirational words, ideas, and counsel of the great twentieth-century thinker Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan, through his meditations on the fifty-four weekly Torah portions and eleven Jewish holidays. A pioneer of ideas and action-teaching that “Judaism is a civilization” encompassing Jewish culture, art, and peoplehood; demonstrating how synagogues can be full centers for Jewish living (building one of the first “shuls with a pool”); and creating the first-ever bat mitzvah ceremony (for his daughter Judith)-Kaplan transformed the landscape of American Jewry. Yet much of Kaplan’s rich treasury of ethical and spiritual thought is largely unknown. Rabbi Steven Carr Reuben, who studied closely with Kaplan, offers unique insight into Kaplan’s teachings about ethical relationships and spiritual fulfillment, including how to embrace godliness in everyday experience, our mandate to become agents of justice in the world, and the human ability to evolve personally and collectively. Quoting from the week’s Torah portion, Reuben presents Torah commentary, a related quotation from Kaplan, a reflective commentary integrating Kaplan’s understanding of the Torah text, and an intimate story about his family or community’s struggles and triumphs-guiding twenty-first-century spiritual seekers of all backgrounds on how to live reflectively and purposefully every day.

A New Scientist Best Book of 2020 Our evolutionary ancestors once possessed the ability to intuit what food their bodies needed, in what proportions, and ate the right things in the proper amounts--perfect nutritional harmony. From wild baboons to gooey slime molds, most every living organism instinctually knows how to balance their diets, except modern-day humans. When and why did we lose this ability, and how can we get it back?David Raubenheimer and Stephen Simpson reveal the answers to these questions in a gripping tale of evolutionary biology and nutritional science, based upon years of groundbreaking research. Their colorful scientific journey takes readers across the globe, from the foothills of Cape Town, to the deserts of Arizona, to a state-of-the-art research center in Sydney. Readers will encounter locusts, mice and even gorillas along the way as the scientists test their hypotheses on various members of the animal kingdom. This epic scientific adventure culminates in a unifying theory of nutrition that has profound implications for our current epidemic of metabolic diseases and obesity. Raubenheimer and Simpson ultimately offer useful advice to understand the unwanted side effects of fad diets, gain control over one's food environment, and see that delicious and healthy are integral parts of proper eating.
